Today's muse is in honor of all of the men and women that dedicate their lives serving our country. They have been on my mind a lot this past week. It started with reading a post by Dottie from MyBlog 2.0 about having to attend a memorial service for a young man from her hometown, only 18 yrs old, who was killed in the Middle East. It was so sad and tragic. He was so young...too young, not even old enough to have really had a chance to experience life. My heart goes out to anyone who has a loved one serving overseas. They leave behind all that they love for an ideal and belief in what they are doing is right, to make a difference, and keep us safe.
And then I started reading Summer of Two Wishes by Julia London...it is about a man who has been held captive by the Taliban for three years, who finally escapes, comes home to be heralded as a hero only to find the life he left behind while serving his country no longer exists. Thoughts of his wife helped him survive his ordeal, only to find upon his return that she has remarried. It is a love triangle of heartbreaking proportions that I could easily see ripped from today's headlines and could be one of the reasons why it resonated with me. I honestly think this is the best book that Julia London has written. I loved it and will be posting my review this week, but most importantly Julia will be my guest tomorrow, Tuesday 8/18, talking about her brand new book and I will be giving away two copies of Summer of Two Wishes.
