Musings Menagerie: Outlander, Request for Reader Questions & a New Poll

Friday, August 14

I missed it!!! I'm even a subscriber to Diana Gabaldon's Yahoo group, more than likely got the email message stating there was an update to the website, and I still missed it! Did you know about this special edition of Outlander? I did not hear one peep on any of the numerous blogs that I visit regularly, but obviously over 8,648 people other than me jumped on the chance to win.

To celebrate the upcoming release of An Echo in the Bone Diana's publisher held a short giveaway to 100 lucky readers. What did they win? Each winner received a box, yes a box, containing 24 copies of this special edition of Outlander to pass out to friends, acquaintances, or strangers. Because they know it's like eating chocolate, or potato chips, you can't read just one.

In the past I have purchased numerous copies of this book to have on hand to do this very thing. I LOVE THIS SERIES! And while some of the newer books in the series, don't have the same magic that the first ones (Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, and Voyager) did, I devour and savor every word with each new release that gives me more of Jamie and Claire. I know that when they read the first one that they will be hooked, I mean how can you not be. In kindness I also warn them that the books are monstrous endeavors. When I first discovered them, the first three books were already in print so I had a smaller backlist to work with, but I spent so much time reading late into the night that I actually had to have my vision prescription modified (and not in a good way). They really should have printed a warning on the backcover of this special edition. Something like:

Warning: This book may cause you to lose sleep, call in sick to work, let your children watch too much unsupervised television, disregard obligations in your real life in order to read this book, in some cases may affect your physical health, but most importantly it may cause you to unfairly compare all future romance heroes to "Jamie" standards (to which they will most likely fall short). A methadone reading list is available to help alleviate any symptoms of withdrawal after reading the entire backlist in this series.

I really would have liked to be able to share one of my fav books with you all, but sadly I didn't enter to win one of the 100 boxes of books because I missed it. I can live with that, I guess, but to add salt to the wound was finding out that 20 of those 100 already lucky winners will receive pre-publication copes of An Echo in the Bone. Right now, I'm just about at a loss for words...I'm trying to console myself by thinking that realistically I probably wouldn't have won with over 8000 entries, but still...a missed opportunity.

I'm still on my personal quest, my own holy grail, to find a first edition hardcover of Outlander. I am unwilling to pay what some people are asking for it. I know that at one time Diana had on her website that someone estimated that a signed first edition of Outlander was worth well over $400.00. I love the book, and would do almost anything to have one...except pay $400.00 for it.

Lea, over at Closetwriter, once told me that she had one...sigh. She has to have one of the best book collections :) She did a post on the evolution of the
Outlander cover art. For the record, I like the originals better too. Stacy's Place on Earth just had a post describing meeting Diana. I would love to be able to go to a signing. While Diana Gabaldon will be doing an extensive book tour for An Echo in the Bone, none of them will be close enough for me to attend :(

Finally before I put my love for Outlander to rest, I was shocked to find out Barbara from Happily Ever After has NEVER read it before. Barbara my friend, how in the world did that happen! Being the historical romance lover I know that you are I am completely baffled...speechless even. On to my other reason for this post.

Two of my favorite authors will be guesting here next month. Both Anne Gracie, and Megan Hart will be visiting to tell us about their newest releases..woohoo am very excited about this!

I am in the process of putting together interview questions for them and thought....why not find out what some of the Seductive Musings readers would like to ask/know. So here's your chance. I will select at least one question for each author to submit to them. Please submit them no later than Sunday 8/16.

There is a new poll in the sidebar. I am woefully behind on writing some reviews which got me to thinking...what do you like to read in a review? If you have a chance take the poll and let me know. Thanks!

I've never read that series. There's such a buzz about these books. I think I'm missing out.

Oh elaing8,
You are definitely missing out. The first 3 are must reads, after that some people kind of drop off, and even though the later ones are not as intense, I have enjoyed each one of them. Pick it up, I'm telling you you won't be sorry!

I entered the comp and didn't win so that is sad! But I'm still very excited about the release date looming!

Barbara hasn't read the Outlander series? I am truly shocked LOL.

For Megan. I loved Taking Care of Business & given you wrote a followup how easy/hard is it to write with someone else - even the fabulous Lauren Dane?
For reviews: I just like to know what the story is about - no spoilers. It's okay to hate the book but don't spoil it for others.

My mom and I have pre-ordered on Amazon and we are very excited. Although I lost steam with the Fiery Cross, I'm hoping this one will reel me back in.

Don't feel bad, I missed that post too, and I recieve email notifications too!

My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
