Guest Author & Giveaway: Stephanie Tyler featuring Too Hot to Hold

Wednesday, January 6

***This giveaway has ended.  Thanks for joining in the fun!***

Are you ready for my third "temptation"?  I don't know if you can handle involves danger, mercenaries, secrets and lies, but most importantly an irresistible burning passion and undeniable love. I'm talking about Stephanie Tyler's second book in the new Hard to Hold Trilogy, TOO HOT TO HOLD.

Stephanie Tyler is my guest today to talk about all three heroes in this trilogy, and to give us insight into Nick's love story....which is almost a contradiction of word association...Nick and romantic love.  Here's your mission: read the interview, then the classified(exclusive) bonus excerpt....and a special giveaway that will make all but one privileged commenter green with envy!

Welcome to Seductive Musings Stephanie! I am so glad to have you as my guest today. For you, what makes a romance novel a great love story, and who are some of your favorite authors to read? Who's your new favorite find?

Thanks so much for having me back!  I had so much fun the last time.

What makes a romance novel a great love story is really about those moments – you know the ones I’m talking about – the ones that make you sigh or cry, hold your breath…the scenes you reread over and over because they were just so good.  See, every love story (real life or novel) is built on those moments.  They can range from fun to serious, sexy to plain old, every day life, but they’re the moments that I tend to write first when I write my books.  For instance, in Hard to Hold, the handcuff scene between Jake and Isabelle is the first scene I ever wrote for that book  - that’s a huge building moment for them.  It’s what I like to call, their oatmeal moment.

I call it that because I always reference Ward’s Lover Unbound – if you’ve read it, you know what I’m talking about – when Jane tells the story of how she threw up her breakfast at her sister’s funeral.  It’s a heartbreaking scene, and compared to what V’s been through, Jane’s story seems simple in comparison, but sharing it was a huge deal for her – and V knows it.  It’s a bonding moment.  It makes me sigh every time I read it.

I hope that makes sense.

Okay, so we’re also talking favorites – let’s see, here are a few off the top of my head - Suzanne Brockmann, Cherry Adair, Robyn Carr, Patricia Briggs, Allison Brennan, JR Ward, Linda Howard, Amy Tan, Tami Hoag,

New favorite find – I’ve got to pick two - Christy Reece – and Elisabeth Naughton – they both have trilogies out now, and you know how partial I am to trilogies!

Sigh, I love that moment between Jake and's one of my many favorites from Hard to Hold.  I think that is so interesting that you write these moments first, but it makes sense too.  Military heroes play a starring role in your novels written as Stephanie Tyler.  What’s the appeal as a writer and how do they inspire you?

I really love men, for starters – I love hanging around them, listening to their conversations and I really appreciate them for being so very different than us, you know?  And I especially love alpha men – probably because I’m pretty strong willed and I need someone equally as strong.  And I’ve found that military men – especially those in Special Forces – have such amazing leadership abilities.  They take charge, they are in command, in control.  Trained to be warriors, to protect…I just don’t think there’s anything better than that for a hero – real life or in the pages of a romance.

I'm a strong willed person I know why I am so drawn to alpha heroes!  This is an epiphany for me.  Can you tell us a little bit about the books in your new Hard to Hold trilogy and give us some insight into each of your modern day warriors… Jake, Nick & Chris.

I think they’re summed up pretty nicely in Hard to Hold (and I’m paraphrasing here) when Jake’s thinking on what it took for each of them to get through BUD/S training, and he says that there was nothing they could do to him that hadn’t been done to him already, that Nick got through it because he craved the pain and the sensation, the thrill of it, and for Chris, because he had that little bit of crazy.  That’s each of them in a nutshell, and really, it’s what shaped their lives until the point where we meet them.

I’m so grateful I got the chance to tell the brothers’ stories the way I did.  Their lives overlapped and intersected so much that it would’ve been impossible not to have them play important roles in each other’s books.  Their styles are so very different but at the end of the day, they’re protective alphas who get hit hard by love.  But Nick was definitely the toughest – he knew he’d fallen but he it was really hard for him to admit it, because he never thought it would happen to him.  Chris is very open to love and Jake, while mistrustful, always held out hope for it.  So Nick’s the toughest nut to crack, so to speak.

Sock it to 'em Stephanie!  Your hero in Too Hot to Hold is Nick Devane.  What do you think will make readers, much like his heroine Kaylee, fall in love with him despite his secretive and damning occupation as a Navy SEAL? And can you tell us a little bit about their story?

Nick is really strong – mentally and physically.  Tough as nails, always looking for the next thrill, whether it be jumping out of a plane or in the bedroom.  But he’s also the protective one – he worries about everyone else – his brothers – and he needs to find that person he can put his guard down around.  He needs to find someone who’s as strong as he is (emotionally to his physical strength, I suppose) and Kaylee can give that to him.  Nick’s the rock of the brothers – quiet, always suspicious of anyone new who tries to hurt his family.  He’s also the one who’ll do your laundry and cook for you.

What's your favorite scene or moment from Too Hot to Hold, and why? Can you describe it for us without giving too much away?

I think it’s the moment (and yes, this was one of the first scenes I wrote for this book) when Kaylee steals Nick’s car and he catches up with her. The chemistry between the two of them was off the charts from the start, but it was that scene that I really knew they would be hot together.  In that scene is my absolute favorite line in the entire book as well.  I think when you come across it, you’ll know.  (How’s that for a tease!)

Grr, I can't believe you left us hanging like that! You have me so intrigued that I'm going to be searching for that scene from page one, and probably have to reread the first half of the book after I find it I'll be so distracted.  Back to the questions, I know that music plays a large part in your writing process.  If Kaylee and Nick had a song, what would it be?

Kaylee and Nick have several songs.  In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel, Wonderwall by Oasis and One of These Nights by the Eagles.  You can view the full soundtrack for Too Hot on my website and listen to a sampling of them if you’ve got iTunes.

I love, love love "In Your Eyes", no comment on the Eagles. What are some of your upcoming releases, or new projects you are working on?

Right now, I’m finishing up book 2 in my new series, which is called Shadow Force.  The two books, Lie With Me and Promises in the Dark are tentatively scheduled for Nov/Dec 2010.

Oh, I can't wait to find out more about the Shadow Force series... sounds dark, dangerous, and delicious :)  If you could ask readers a question, what would it be?

Hmmm, how about, how do you find new authors?  Is it through recommendations, reviews, browsing, etc?  I find a lot of mine through blogs, I admit.

Finally, just for fun…if you could write the “fortune” in a fortune cookie what would it be?

Make dreams, not goals.  That’s also my new year’s resolution.

Together, they’re an explosion waiting to happen

He's an elite Navy SEAL living a risky double life. She's the gorgeous reporter hot on his trail.

Nick Devane’s life is one big, classified secret. Until Kaylee Smith busts his covert world wide open, threatening to blow his cover. Digging around where she doesn’t belong could get them both killed…especially when the beautiful journalist uncovers top-secret information that could set off a global disaster if it falls into the wrong hands. Nick can’t let that happen, even if he has to battle deadly mercenaries and an irresistible attraction that is all consuming…

Kaylee didn’t expect her search for her missing ex-husband to lead to this sexy and dangerous SEAL. Now she’s teamed up with Nick on a mission that takes them into deepest Africa--and into the middle of a massive government cover-up. With rogue agents hot on their trail, Kaylee’s going to unearth all Nick’s secrets. Before they both vanish without a trace. Before the passion burning between them sets off an explosion no one may survive…

My many special thanks to Stephanie for being my guest today.  She was on a tight deadline for a new book, but made time to chat with me. I can't wait to read Too Hot to Hold and Hold on Tight.  Like all of the featured books this week, once I get my hands on Too Hot to Hold I could go MIA for a few days...I'll be spending some one on one time with Nick :)

If you loved Hard to Hold as much as I did (and if you haven't read it, then there's no time like the present), you should definitely check out her website to get the full book experience for Hard to Hold, and Too Hot to Hold.  She's got book club questionscharacter lists, a military glossary (which being the non military person that I am I desperately need), maps (am I the only one that likes to see pictures so that I can visualize it while reading?), and music that inspired the book (love book soundtracks!) with blurbs and excerpts for the two other books in the seriesIt's a virtual  treasure trove of booklover goodness. In addition you can also find her blog on this site, as well as ways to contact her via Twitter and Myspace to show her some love.

Did you know that Stephanie Tyler also co-writes under the pseudonym Sydney Croft with Larissa Ione?  You can find out more about these books here, and at  I'm definitely going to check out these books while waiting on the final book in this trilogy.

I don't use Amazon to earn money, I use it because the widgets are cool, easy to use, and serve my purposes to showcase books & such with minimal effort, but most importantly they have great prices and offer both new and used items. As a book addict I love that I can find just about anything I want in one place. If you are going to purchase a featured book anyway, and you know you won't pay more by using the links on this blog than you would by visiting Amazon on your own, I will be eternally grateful for supporting this blog by using the links :)

I'm all over him, LOL.

Anyway, great interview! I read Hard to Hold over the holidays and loved it. Can't wait to read the next 2. I lurrrve my SEALs!

As to where I find new authors: I rely on blogger with similar tastes and use their recommendations. I also receive several publisher's e-newsletters, and I look at those each week/month. If something looks interesting, I click through to find out more about it. And I'm also an easy mark at the bookstore. If I'm wandering through and see something that looks interesting, I'm likely to pick it up. And I'm always looking for those Zebra Debut authors. Those books are usually $4.99, and I've had very few duds.

+1: question answered.

I find my authors by
1.browsing books stores and see a great cover then flip it over to read the blurb.
2. I live in Hawaii and there is a woman who is a Romance expert (worked in the Romance Book Industry forever) and she puts out a Newsletter every week. I love it and I always tell her what I want in a book and she will give me a bunch of recommends. Never have I been steered wrong.
3. BLOGS!!! love them!! couldn't live w/o!!!

Hi, Stephanie! Happy New Year to all! Brava, Stephanie! You are in a class by yourself with your wonderful romantic tales of Magical Military Males! My Mom & I both loved the Eagles! Way back in the day, we went to see them on their "The Long Run" tour : )

I find new authors and books through book blogs, reviewers websites, publishers and authors websites and online booksellers. Also magazines, newspapers, TV and word-of-mouth. Sometimes, I make a great discovery at book sales and second-hand shops!

I enjoyed your interview very much. I am a strong person and a strong woman, but I am also a very romantic and feminine woman. I respond to the Alpha Male. I love Alpha Males who are somewhat gruff, tough and rough around the edges. Gorgeous in a very masculine way. A voice that will make your skin dance : ) They have an inner core of kindness, are innately intelligent and charmingly funny when they choose to be! Gosh, I want one of those!!!

Great question -- I find a lot of new authors through blogs and a few favorite review site Yahoo groups, and I generally check out reviews to see what other readers think about an author's work.

Hi, Stephanie! Congrats on the latest, and yes, I've been adding constantly to my TBR these days through blogs and chats and mostly on-line promotions. I used to find new-to-me authors by browsing at the library or bookstore or by reviews in magazines, but my TBR and TBB have exploded with the increased access through the Internet! Congrats on the latest installment in this series--adding them to the TBB, too!
