Guest Author & Giveaway: Emma Lang featuring Ruthless Heart

Wednesday, June 30

***This giveaway has ended, but you should still read the post...it's worth your time:)  Thanks for joining the fun!***

We're continuing our celebration of cowboys this week with Emma Lang's new novel, RUTHLESS HEART published by Brava.  Yesterday was the official release day of Beth Williamson's debut as Emma Lang and I couldn't wait to read this book.  She's been baiting me (ok not just me....other readers too) with excerpts on her blog over the past week during her countdown to release day and I couldn't wait to actually read the whole thing.  I've finally gotten my booklover hands on it and I am loving it even more than I expected too (and I had high expectations) .

The characters feel so real, and I think a lot of it has to do with the dialogue between the hero and the heroine, Grady and Eliza.  One of the things that struck me when reading the tempting excerpts on her blog was not only how different these characters were, but how each of them compliment each other in unexpected ways.  Opposites attract stories don't always work for me because sometimes it's not always apparent why the characters end up together...what they see in the other that makes it all work.  Even though I'm not done reading it yet, I already know that Eliza will be the woman to show Grady how to love and be loved, and Grady will be the man to let Eliza become the true Eliza.  Emma Lang is here today to talk about RUTHLESS HEART, her heroine Eliza and her hero Grady...Read and enjoy!

Book Learning vs. Life Lessons

Yesterday was the official release day for my first book as Emma Lang, RUTHLESS HEART. It's the story of a runaway closet scientist Mormon-raised heroine named Eliza and the dark, hard hired killer sent to track her sister.

Eliza Hunter has spent her life learning and living in the books she finds so precious. She's relied on them to be her friends and confidantes, and to guide her through everything. When she leaves home to find her runaway sister, Angeline, her books are her companions.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Grady Wolfe. He has had a hard life, learning lessons from the cruel side of reality, relying on his instincts to guide him through life. When he takes the job of chasing and killing the missing Angeline Brown, he never expects to run into the bible-toting, spectacled Eliza.

She surprises him by building a fire by using only her book knowledge. Yet he surprises her by taking one of her inventions and improving it based on his experience and instincts.

They could not be more different, truly salt and pepper personalities and lives. And somehow, they find the other half of what they were missing all their lives. Two lonely people who fall in love through the craziest, most dangerous journey of their lives.

Each one is unique, and has their strength from either books or life. It's an interesting juxtaposition of opposites. What makes it even more interesting is how they teach each other through the story. And, of course, they fight the lessons tooth and nail. LOL.

What do y'all think? Do you believe we learn more from books or from life experiences?

He led her astray, and she never wanted to go back…

Sheltered all her life, Eliza Hunter never imagined herself alone in the vast Utah plains, much less trailing a mysterious, rugged man hired to hunt down her beautiful younger sister. Unable to reveal the truth about her pursuit of him, Eliza plays student to the teacher, transforming herself in the process. And she when she finds herself sharing the warmth of Grady’s campfire, wrapped in his arms, hypnotized by his power, soon she is a naive spinster no more…

Grady Wolfe is more than a loner, he’s a man forever on the run. With a body and soul finely honed from living off the land, Grady knows he should leave the irresistible woman alone, but she stirs something in him he hasn’t felt before. Now he’s lost in the woods for the first time in his life—with a dangerous job to do. And no one—not even the luscious Eliza—is going to stop him…

Feature and Giveaway: Raising Kane by Lorelei James

Tuesday, June 29

***This giveaway has ended, but you should still read the post...it's worth your time:)  Thanks for joining the fun!***

One of my favorite Lorelei James books (I love them all, but do have a few favorites) is TIED UP, TIED DOWN.  While it's Sky and Kade's love story it's also where we get a good introduction to our hero today, Kane McKay. In TIED UP, TIED DOWN Kane is still in his love' em and leave' em stage....a player and complete hedonist. He's earned every bit of his bad boy McKay reputation and then some. But he's no longer the same man he used to be.  His personal journey to become a different man has been an evolution across many of the books in the Rough Riders series and today's the day we all will finally get to read his love story in RAISING KANE!

Are you all as excited about this book as I am?  If you don't know what I'm talking about...let me tell you you've been missing out in a BIG way!  Read on and enjoy...I think you'll see why I dedicated this week's Muse to cowboy love.

She surrendered the reins. Now he’s raising the stakes.

Rough Riders, Book 9

When a patch of ice sends attorney Ginger Paulson head-over-high-heels down a flight of stairs, she has no one to care for her young son and her invalid father—until lethally sexy Kane McKay shows up at the hospital, determined to prove his cowboy chivalry. Past experience has inoculated her against take-charge men, but even Ginger isn’t immune to Kane’s invasive charm and Built Ford Tough body.

For two years rancher Kane McKay has followed the Little Buddies mentoring program’s cardinal rule—hands off his Little Buddy Hayden’s mama. But one look at Ginger’s bruised body and Kane is through watching the stubborn woman take care of everyone but herself. The feisty, curvy redhead needs his help, and he’ll give her the hands-on type whether she likes it or not.

After Kane throws out doctor’s orders and issues his own demands—her full sexual submission—Ginger realizes Kane’s caring nature extends beyond just fulfilling her physical needs.

Can the former hell-raiser convince the gun-shy single mom to look beyond his past…toward a shared future?

Warning: Contains one sweet and hot hunk of cowboy manflesh who uses every sexual trick in the book to render a sassy, fast-talking attorney speechless and put a new twist on the term “binding arbitration”.

Congratulations Lorelei, from one of your many loyal fans!   Thank you so much for the books that you write and keeping up with your crazy writing schedule (and I mean crazy) to continuously feed our insatiable addiction for your books!

If you've not had the pleasure of reading one of Lorelei's novels written as either Lorelei James, or Lori Armstrong, you can find more about her on her websites www.loreleijames.com, or www.loriarmstrong.com, or if you are brave enough you can join her Yahoo Group :)  I also highly recommend checking out her Extras page because it contains all sorts of goodies, like Author's Notes, McKay & West family trees, a Rough Rider Timeline (which I find helpful) and a free short story.

Today we're going to have a massive LJ party!  To celebrate the release of RAISING KANE, Lorelei has offered to giveaway one signed print book from her backlist AND one ebook copy from her backlist....and because I love her books so much I am offering to giveaway an ebook of the winners choice (including the new release RAISING KANE as long as it's available from All Romance ebooks since they allow you to gift them) to one winner as a Seductive Musings "readers rewards".  So that's one print winner and two ebook winners...Yee-haw!  Here's how you can enter to win:

Monday's Muse

Monday, June 28

Sorry, but the image containing the Monday's Muse has been removed from this blog so as not to violate any copyright issues.  Thanks for your understanding!

I'm declaring this week cowboy week @ Seductive Musings. Yee-haw!

Last week I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of Raising Kane by Lorelei James.  Kane is described as having a goatee and mustache so I thought it only fitting that our Muse this week not only be a delicious cowboy a la Kane, but also one with the facial hair that his heroine, Ginger, loves.  He doesn't have the dark hair or blue eyes that is a trademark of the McKay men, but I think you will agree that those small details can be overlooked....for obvious reasons :)

Not only will I be featuring Raising Kane this week, but I will also have author Emma Lang as my guest to celebrate her debut novel Ruthless Heart.  After reading Raising Kane I wasn't ready to give up cowboys so I also read Texas Tangle by Leah Braemel, and Consent to the Cowboy by Abby Wood.  Texas Tangle was pretty good, but Consent to the Cowboy just didn't click with me.   I will have reviews for all of these books soon (I hope)

After reading all of these ebooks I have to say that I was sorely tempted to buy a Kindle now that they dropped the price to $189.  I almost did it, but then my conscience said, "You already have a ereader, your Sony is only a few years old...you don't NEED it you just WANT it", but then the little devil on the other shoulder said, "...but think of all of those FREE reads you could take advantage of...and think of all the money you have spent on ebooks that you could use your Amazon GC's that you received as gifts towards so it'd be like getting them for free too!".  I'm still undecided.  It's such a great price, but the thing that keeps holding me back is that the books I buy for the Kindle won't work on any other device....I hate that!

I didn't read just ebooks last week.  I also read Stroke of Genius by Emily Bryan which was an enjoyable read with great dialogue between the hero and heroine with fun supporting characters.  At the end I felt that some things were briefly touched upon and was wanting more.  This book was relatively short and I wanted it to be a little bit longer to explore more of every relationship.  And I read One Dance with a Duke by Tessa Dare, which I loved but had a slight problem.  I was reading along and the hero and the heroine were beginning to have an intimate moment....I turned the page....and it didn't make sense.  I was on page 304 looked at the next page and it was 307.  I was missing pages 305-306!  Now, normally I would just lament the loss of the scene and move on, but this was a pivotal moment because it was the beginning of the end of the story.  Events that happened on TWO PAGES set up the entire ending and I MISSED IT!!  I was left guessing what had happened.  I tried Google books to see if they had a preview with those pages, but just my luck they were omitted.  Despite this, I finished the book, but now I wonder if I should go back and seek out another copy with the missing pages.  Will it make a difference?  Probably not, but I can't help but wonder what really happened.  I have a general idea....but still, it totally ruined the ending for me.

How did I get the chance to read all of these in one week you might ask?  Well, there's a reason I didn't post all that I had planned last week.  My Dad called me Monday and told me he was in the hospital.  He's fine now, but he was in the hospital the entire week so I got a lot of reading done while I was there, and on top of it all I also had a sick toddler to take care of...so naturally by Friday I was sick too.  It's so not what I needed, but I count my blessings that everyone is on the mend including me, but unfortunately now I am even more behind than I was before.  What can you do?  That's life.

The only other blog updates I have for you is a new Tempting Trailer for Jeanine Frost's new Night Huntress World book, Eternal Kiss of Darkness.  I've heard so many good things about this author that I am going to have to give her a try before the end of the year.  And later this week I will have a new giveaway for you from Forever Romance to celebrate all of their titles that have been nominated for RITA's.  You won't want to miss it!

Hope you all have a great Monday!

Monday's Muse

Monday, June 21

Sorry, but the image containing the Monday's Muse has been removed from this blog so as not to violate any copyright issues.  Thanks for your understanding!

Since yesterday was father's day  I couldn't resist featuring a Muse holding a cute as a button baby this week.  I love pictures of men holding babies *sigh*.

Last week I read quite a bit.  I should have thrown in a few reviews, but frankly I wasn't really in the mood to write them...which means that this week I really need to get busy before the next week which is the last week of June.  I always seem to be overloaded with posts on the last week and am determined to try and not let that happen this month.  Anyways, I read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean and absolutely LOVED it.  It was so much better than I even thought it would be and I had high expectations after reading a few reviews.  If you like historical romances I highly recommend it, especially if you like Elizabeth Hoyt (which I do).  Then I read His at Night by Sherry Thomas, which didn't live up to all that I had heard about this author and her books.  She was on my list of authors that I wanted to try this year and sadly I was disappointed.  It's not that the book was bad....it was just mediocre in my opinion, but I'm going to give her another try.  I have Private Arrangements in my TBR and this book got excellent reviews, so I'll just have to wait and see what I think about this author after reading another of her novels. Right now I'm reading Stroke of Genius by Emily Bryan...I just started, so I'll let you know next Monday what I thought of it.

Did any of you happen to read the blog by Courtney Milan titled "Chased by Cows!" ?  I'm a fan of Courtney's books and her blog which I read whenever I can.  I happened on this post on Friday and  I laughed so hard I actually snorted :)  Yeah it wasn't pretty, but the post is darn funny....I dare you not to laugh.  If you are needing a Monday pick me up I recommend reading it (it's safe for work).  I hope she uses it as a scene in the book she is researching.

Blog Updates:
  • There are a few new Guest Authors that I added to the calender and I am currently sending out invites for September & October so if there is an author you'd like to see here as a guest and has a book coming out within this time frame let me know.
  • There's a new Tempting Trailer for Cynthia Eden's new romantic suspense out next month, Deadly Fear.  She's known for her paranormal romance, so I am intrigued by this direction in her writing.  I love a good romantic suspense so this one is on my radar.
I think that's about all I have for you this week.  Reviews, more reviews....then on Sunday I will have the winners from the Robyn DeHart Desire Me giveaway.  If you haven't commented to win yet, you still have time :)

Have a good one!

Monday's Muse

Monday, June 14

Sorry, but the image containing the Monday's Muse has been removed from this blog so as not to violate any copyright issues.  Thanks for your understanding!

This week's Muse has been inspired by an erotic romance series that I devoured over the weekend. I was having a hard time getting into Knight of Passion by Margaret Mallory (even though it was a book I couldn't wait to read) so I decided to put it down for a day or so and read an ebook (meaning I had the intention of only reading one) from my ever sexpanding digital library.

I decided I was in the mood for something on the steamy side so I selected Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair (a BDSM erotic romance). I've read one of her books previously (Master of the Mountain) and really enjoyed it so I thought why not....I've been thinking about having another "Submit to Your Desires" week and wanted to see if I might want to feature this book for the BDSM themed week. That "why not" turned into reading not only Club Shadowlands, but then additional e-book purchases and quick readings of the next three books in the series, Dark Citadel, Breaking Free and Lean on Me. Each book in the series kept getting better and better so I read them all :)

I know some people don't like the idea of BDSM romances...and I have to admit that sometimes, depending on the intensity of the "play" described in the story, they are still too much for me.  But Cherise Sinclair  strikes just the right balance and is a master at writing romances featuring BDSM erotic romances (at least to my comfort level). The books of her's that I have read focus on one couple...their discovery of each other, their limits, learning to trust and accept their needs and desires and never explore anything that borders on the pleasure of inflicting pain. I just can't get into romances like that...no offense to anyone who enjoys them...they're just not my cuppa.

I had only intended to read just one, but much like your favorite indulgence (ie chocolate)...sometimes only one just doesn't satisfy the craving. So I read them all :) If you haven't read Cherise Sinclair, or are tempted to try a romance with what I would consider "light" BDSM, then I would highly recommend the Master of the Shadowlands series.

And before I forget...for those of you who are booklovers of this subgenre of erotic romance, and have any books you would like to suggest for the next "Submit to Your Desires" week, please leave a comment and tell me what books or authors that you love that have some "kink" you'd like to see featured at Seductive Musings.

Have an inspiring Monday!

*I am an Amazon affiliate and receive a small (and I mean very small) referral fee for purchases made using a link on this blog. I don't use Amazon to earn money, I use it because the widgets are cool, easy to use, and serve my purposes to showcase books & such with minimal effort, but most importantly they have great prices and offer both new and used items. As a book addict I love that I can find just about anything I want in one place. If you are going to purchase a featured book anyway, and you know you won't pay more by using the links on this blog than you would by visiting Amazon on your own, I will be eternally grateful for supporting this blog by using the links, and don't forget that the referral fees from your purchases will sponsor the "Reader Rewards" giveaways :)

Winners: Knight of Passion & Tempting Eden

Sunday, June 13

Hey Guys! I hope you all had a great weekend.  My sister and I went to a nearby casino today...and came back as big losers (if you can call spending $20 a big loser).  Normally she almost always walks away a winner, but I think my bad gambling luck rubbed off on her :(  But we had fun and got to spend kid free time together so I guess that's what really counts.  I think the odds are quite a bit better for everyone who commented to win on the giveaways at Seductive Musings this week.  Want to know who got lucky?

The five winners of the third book in Margaret Mallory's All The King's Men series, KNIGHT OF PASSION courtesy of Forever Romance are....

1.  Luvdaylilies
2.  Estella
3.  chey
4.  s7anna
5.  Armenia

The winner of the signed copy of Tempting Eden by Margaret Rowe courtesy of the author herself is....

Artemis

Congratulations!  And thanks again to everyone else who participated.  As always, you can click on any of the links or the book covers found on this blog to purchase the books you are dying to read...even if you didn't win them.

If however,  you've been lucky enough to have already won any of these books in another giveaway please let me know so that alternate winner(s) can be selected.  In addition, the winners will have until Wednesday 6/16 to contact me with your mailing address, otherwise an alternate winner will be selected.  You can send your mailing address to me by using the Contact link in the menu bar at the top of the blog then filling out the form.

My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
