Guest Author & Giveaway: Vicky Dreiling featuring How to Marry a Duke
Thursday, January 13
For an unpublished author I would think that selling your first book would be much like winning the lottery. Kind of like the Mega Millions drawing they had a few weeks ago that I didn't win :( I'm over it, really... Amyways, anytime there is a lottery drawing with a big jackpot I can't help but make mental lists of things that I would either like to do, buy, or give if I were lucky enough to win. It's hard not to dream just a little.
My guest today, author Vicky Dreiling, won her own sort of lottery when she found out her book How to Marry a Duke
was going to be published. She's here today to share with us some of her top things to do when you hit the publishing lottery :) Read and enjoy!
Top Five Things to do After the First Sale
- Call everyone you know and squee in their ears (they’ll forgive you after their ears quit ringing)
- Dance around the house (try not to trip over the mountainous basket of dirty laundry)
- Make dinner reservations someplace special with a special person
- Break out the bubbly –you earned it!
- Wake up in the middle of the night, fearing you dreamed it (Nope – it’s real!)
Top Five Suggestions After You Get Your First Advance Check
- Take the family to Disney World or …
- Buy yourself something special you always wanted
- Contact web designers and get estimates
- Invest in an external hard disk drive storage device or get a subscription to an online storage service to ensure your manuscript is secure in the event of a computer crash
- Save part of your advance for future promotional efforts
Top Five Suggestions After You Get Your First Revision Letter
- Read the letter carefully and keep an open mind
- The number of pages is not important; a detailed letter means you’ll have fewer questions
- Get excited as you realize the changes will make your book even stronger
- Invest in post-it notes and use them on the hard copy because the page numbers will change as you revise
- If you have questions, call your editor
Top Five Things to Do When You Write Your Dedication and Acknowledgements
- Dedicate your book to someone special who supported you on this journey
- Acknowledge your wonderful agent and editor
- Acknowledge all your writing friends who supported you on your journey
- Acknowledge your other family members (even if they don’t understand your passion)
- Tear up a little as you write (you’re allowed because you worked so hard to get here)
Top Five Suggestions the Day Your Book Debuts
- Go to a bookstore and take photos of your book on the shelf
- Post the photos on your website, Facebook page and Twitter (everyone will love sharing your joy)
- Get a bit misty-eyed when you receive congratulations from friends and readers
- Take reviews with a grain of salt (focus on the positive ones)
- Break out the bubbly once again – you earned it!

Helping a devilish Duke create a contest to pick his perfect mate is the kind of challenge Tessa Mansfield relishes. Her methods may be scandalous, but she's determined to find the notorious bachelor more than a wife--she'll bring him true love. Yet when Tessa watches the women vie for the Duke's affections, she longs to win his heart herself. And after a stolen kiss confirms Tristan's desire, Tessa knows she has broken a matchmaker's number one rule: never fall in love with the groom.
Congrats Vicky on your debut, and thank you so much for being my guest at Seductive Musings today!
Vicky is a woman after my own heart :) She considers herself a confirmed historical romance junkie and loves all things Regency (me too!). After all who could not love an author that modeled her hero after Henry Cavill (as he appeared in the Tudors), and her heroine after Jane Austen's Emma. You all know how much I love me some Henry and Emma! I think we might be kindred spirits :) If you'd like to learn more about Vicky and the books she writes you can find her at her website www.vickydreiling.com, her blog, on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads.

*I am an Amazon affiliate and receive a small (and I mean very small) referral fee for purchases made using a link on this blog. I don't use Amazon to earn money, I use it because the widgets are cool, easy to use, and serve my purposes to showcase books & such with minimal effort, but most importantly they have great prices and offer both new and used items. As a book addict I love that I can find just about anything I want in one place. If you are going to purchase a featured book anyway, and you know you won't pay more by using the links on this blog than you would by visiting Amazon on your own, I will be eternally grateful for supporting this blog by using the links, and don't forget that the referral fees from your purchases will sponsor the "Reader Rewards" giveaways :)

Congrats to Vicky on her debut release. Now that Ryan Reynolds is divorcing his wife, I consider him one of the most eligible bachelors out there. I can't wait to see him as the Green Lantern. http://www.starpulse.com/Actors/Reynolds,_Ryan/gallery/BBC-011874/

I would say George Clooney, I think he is pretty hot. I loved your list of things to do. I think it is really good advice. I would love to read your book, it sounds really good.

Hi everyone! Many thanks to Seductive Musings for inviting me to your wonderful blog. And yes, I did feel as if I won the lottery when I sold my book. The best part is having it on the shelves and hearing from readers.
Jane - good pick w/Ryan Reynolds. Pardon me while I swoon. :-) Did you see The Proposal with Ryan and Sandra Bullock? I bought the blue-ray - my kind of movie!
Debbie - George Clooney is one of those guys who will be hot his entire life. He was great on that show ER.
Cheers!
I follow via GFC.
I loved Vicky's list! Congrats on hitting the 'publishing lottery'!
I have several celebrity crushes, but I have to say I would walk over all of them to get at Hugh Jackman and his um..accent.
Thank you for the post and contest. The book sounds fantastic.
My big celebrity crush is Alex MacLaughlin. Ever since Moonlight he has been my favorite vampire character. Now I get to see him on Hawaii 5-0!!!

Congratulations Vicky on the release. I can't wait to read this book. I love the premise for this book. And who doesn't love a hero that is modeled after Henry Cavill. He is just so sexy.
For most eligible bachelor I choose Ryan Reynolds. I swear I have been in love with him since the 80's when he was on Nickelodeon. He is so sexy. Plus, he is super funny. I just love a guy that can make me laugh.

I have to go with George Clooney as the most eligible bachelor today.
I love the concept of How to Marry A Duke--- the matchmaker gets caught in her own scheme.

My pick for a bachelor is Matthew McConaughey, although he has a girlfriend he’s still not married (as far as I know) and I just love the guy and those bedroom eyes are sooooo…..dreamy!!! He reminds me of a younger version of Paul Newman…..I know that dates me….But Yummmm. Love the way he talks, the way he walks…..and daaaamn, he’s just so sexy!!! I would love to read your debut novel….sounds like my cup of tea……and I’m so thrilled to find a new author that writes the type of stories I adore!!!! I’m a GFC follower but may not be able to respond within 3 days of announcement….as I’ll be out of area/internet access for about 30 days starting the end of this month. Congratulations on your 1st pub…..and wishing you much success!!!
Congrats on your new release!
Hm, now that William is getting married, I think Harry is now the most eligible bachelor.

Most eligible has a bit to do with personal taste. My choice would be George Clooney - mature, handsome, involved in humanitarian causes. Works for me.
Liked your Top Five Things in the different categories. They all made sense and you didn't forget to celebrate sufficiently.
I am a GFC Follower - librarypat.
Congrats on the book - realistic yet fun list esp Disney World!
My most eligible bachelor would be Kenny Chesney - something about tight jeans and cowboy hat

Is Ty Pennington married? If not, he's the most eligible bachelor. The man can build stuff!! :)
Looking forward to reading this debut. Sounds very fun & I am always looking for new authors.

Congrats on How to Marry a Duke's release! It sounds like such a terrific read. really like the plot line. Hmmm is Dewayne "the Rock" Johnson single (I heard he was divorced). If so I guess I'd go with him.

Congratulations to Vicky on her new book! I like the matchmaking aspect of the story since it has so much potential to go wrong. I would pick George Clooney as a Most Eligible Bachelor or maybe Most Elusive Bachelor.

Congrats on your book - the story line is interesting & the cover is beautiful.
I think the most eligible bachelor right now is Prince Harry of England. He's handsome, wealthy, devilish & has a great smile!
Thanks for the giveaway!
