Romance Fantasy Football... The Musings Way

Friday, February 4

I mentioned on Monday that I've been craving romances with football heroes in my anticipation for Jaci Burton's new THE PERFECT PLAY....and since this weekend is Superbowl weekend I thought it only fitting to share with you my own version of Fantasy Football, as in Romance Fantasy Football.  Sharing with you some of my favorite sexy, and sigh worthy fictional football heroes in romance...that you wish were real :)

Some of my recent favorites are:
GAME FOR ANYTHING by Bella Andre (currently a bargain priced book at Amazon for $5.60)

Some lovers play it safe . . . others are GAME FOR ANYTHING.

He’s the Superbowl hero men idolize and women lust after . . . the bad boy quarterback with a dangerous edge. But behind his devil-may-care grin, Ty Calhoun hides a desire that only one woman can ever fulfill—and a memory he can’t shake: high school graduation night . . . and mind-blowing sex with the untouchable girl of his dreams. He would trade every trophy to feel the heat of her sensual, uninhibited lust once more. And he may get that chance . . . because she’s just been hired by the San Francisco Outlaws’ new owner to clean up Ty’s act.

The country’s top image consultant, Julie Spencer is a total pro at cleaning up the messes of the rich and famous. Even working with the man who took her virginity and broke her heart ten years ago can’t shake her. Until he touches her again. Because one caress - one hot kiss - is all it takes to spark the same knee-quaking electricity, and soon they’re mixing business and extreme pleasure. But knowing the danger this bad boy poses to her heart, Julie is determined to keep her distance.

But Ty has a game plan of his own. The more he misbehaves, the more Julie will have to keep tabs on him—and the more he can give his dream girl some very real thrills, by showing her just how fun it is to be bad.  This time around he’s game for anything…especially winning her heart.

She's not a good girl anymore . . . now she's GAME FOR SEDUCTION.

The daughter of a powerful sports agent, Melissa McKnight has harbored lust-filled fantasies for Dominic DiMarco ever since she was an awkward teenager, when the San Francisco Outlaws' gorgeous wide receiver became her father's superstar client. Now Melissa's a beautiful, tenacious associate in her father's firm, and being around to-die-for hardbodies is all in a day's work...until tangling with Dominic at a photo shoot blindsides her with passion.

Dominic has built a flawless career by being in control-on and off the field. And despite his intense desire for Melissa, he's not about to seduce his agent's daughter. Until Melissa stages a power play to break free from her domineering father-and winds up at an edgy bar on the wrong side of town. Dominic thinks he's rescuing the innocent Melissa he met years ago . . . but one night of sizzling passion reveals a woman with no limits-including a penchant for hot sex in public places. If anyone's breaking all the rules of seduction, it's sexy, irresistible Melissa.

But Dominic has a secret from years ago-one that could ruin his sterling reputation and take Melissa along with him. Will his bad boy past bind them closer together? Or will they crash and burn?

In the Hail Mary play of a lifetime, a sexy NFL quarterback has just ten days to convince his wife to give him a second chance before their divorce is final—and he has to act fast because she’s already engaged to her high school boyfriend. Line of Scrimmage is a story of reunion, redemption, rejuvenation, and renewal. Readers will laugh and cry and hope—that at the end of the day, these two lovers, who clearly belong together, will somehow find their way back to one another.

Here are a few that are relatively new that I can't wait to read:

GAME FOR LOVE by Bella Andre

In a relationship built on lies...the only truth is their feelings for each other.

To fulfill his grandmother's dying wish, linebacker Cole Taylor must find - and marry - a good girl. First grade teacher, Anna Davis, fits the bill perfectly. Their deal is simple: If she'll be his temporary wife, he'll give her more pleasure than she ever imagined was possible. Only, love is the ultimate game-changer.

Football pro Mick Riley is an all-star, both on the field and in the bedroom. But a sexy, determinedly single mom just might be the one to throw him off his game...

For years Mick has been taking full advantage of the life available to a pro athlete: fame, fortune, and a different girl in every city. But when he meets and beds confident, beautiful event planner Tara Lincoln, he wants much more than the typical one-night stand. Too bad Tara's not interested in getting to know football's most notorious playboy any better.

As the single mother of a teenage son, the last thing Tara needs is the jet-set lifestyle of Mick Riley; even though their steamy and passionate one-night stand was unforgettable. Tara's life is complicated enough without being thrust into the spotlight as Mick's latest girl du jour. Tara played the game of love once and lost big, and she doesn't intend to put herself out there again, especially with a heartbreaker like Mick.

But when Mick sets his mind to win, nothing will stop him. And he has the perfect play in mind.

Then, there are these that I also found while doing my "research" for this post that feature football heroes as well, but I've not had the pleasure of reading any of them yet:
  • Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips:  I have to admit that I haven't read any SEP books....yet.  I've heard lots of good things about her, and if my memory serves I DO have a few of her books in my TBR.  If I would have known that this series featured football heroes, they probably would have made it out of the TBR much sooner. There are seven books in all in this series and here they are in order: (1) IT HAD TO BE YOU, (2) HEAVEN, TEXAS, (3) NOBODY'S BABY BUT MINE, (4) DREAM A LITTLE DREAM, (5) THIS HEART OF MINE, (6) MATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and (7) NATURAL BORN CHARMER.    Now that they've made it on the booklover radar I'm definitely going to have to read them.
  • Finally those of you who like a little bit of paranormal with your football hero yumminess, then maybe Karen Kelly's HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN will be to your liking.

Have you read any of these, if so what are your thoughts?  Are there others that I didn't scout out?   Inquiring football loving hero minds would like to know :)

In the meantime how would you like to celebrate football heroes in the best possible way....with a super big Superbowl sized giveaway!

Here's the game plan:

I don't use Amazon to earn money, I use it because the widgets are cool, easy to use, and serve my purposes to showcase books & such with minimal effort, but most importantly they have great prices and offer both new and used items. If you are going to purchase a featured book anyway, and you know you won't pay more by using the links on this blog than you would by visiting Amazon on your own, I will be eternally grateful for supporting this blog by using the links, and don't forget that the referral fees from your purchases will sponsor the "Reader Rewards" giveaways :)

I think the Steelers are going to win. I'm not a fan and don't really care, but that's my guess.
I like the sports hero in romantic books to be sexy, intense hard working guys that have a soft spot that they try to keep hidden.

I haven't read any of these books. But Jaci's book I've put on my TRL after haring some really good things about it.
It doesn't matter to me really who wins the Superbowl but I feel the Packers are going to win.

I think the Packers are going to win but it doesn't really matter in our house which team does win. I enjoy a sports hero in a romance who can show a sensative side.
I filled out the form.

I think the packers will win, but I don't really care. Honestly, I have never read a book with a sports hero before. I think I would like them to have the traits that any other hero would have, though.

Mary February 5, 2011 at 8:40 AM

I don't watch football, but if I ahve to take a guess I'll say Steelers.

I cannot remember ever reading a book with a sports hero and I haven't read any of the books you posted. But I sure do like their covers.

But I think the same triats should be in a sports hero as with any other hero I want o read. Strong, funny, passionate, and kind.
I'm a GFC follower and am going to fill out the form right now.

I'm not going to lie, not that big of a fan of football so....I'm going for the underdog. I think (not sure) that that is the Packers.
I like sports heroes that have an unexpected soft side. The ones that are tired of being manwhores and want to find someone that loves them for them not just because they are famous.
All of these books look great. I have read Bella Andre before but not her football books. And that Jaci Burton cover. OMG can't stop drooling over it. That man is hot!!

I'm a huge Bears fan and am rooting for the Packers which is painful but I can't stand Ben Roethlisberger. I like the Steelers without Ben because my dad played for them years ago so normally I'd go for the Steelers but can't as long as they keep him around.

We live and breathe football and baseball in my house so I'm attracted to athletes - love the swagger and ego as long as they're nice guys.

Not a fan of either team, but I think the Steelers will win. I think sports heroes are attractive because of their high profile jobs, their amazing physique and confidence.

Don't really care who wins but I tink it will be the Steelers!

D.L. February 5, 2011 at 3:49 PM

I don't ever watch football so I'm not in a good position to predict anything. The Steelers? I'm also generally so-so about sports romance. I'm not going to read it for the sports aspect, but if its well written with good characters I'll definitely go for it. I've loved the SEP books I've read.

Meredith February 5, 2011 at 4:28 PM

I haven't read any of these!

We're totally backing the Packers here! I like sports heroes that kids can look up to--not the ones who do bad things and think they're getting away with something!

limecello February 5, 2011 at 9:22 PM

Interesting - a google alert brought me here :) - but you don't link to me! Fun and strange internet.
You know I like football, Carrie ;). I plan on watching the Superbowl, and I want the Packers to win. Can't stand the steelers >:(
Loved Game for Anything & Game for Seduction by Bella Andre. Also Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force.
Also love all those SEP books... but only It Had To Be You really deals with football... Heaven, Texas, Nobody's Baby But Mine, and... This Heart of Mine are my favorites I think.
I need to get the third Bella Andre book... and The Perfect Game too. Waiting on my book budget though :)

:D Always happy to talk football :D

I'm cheering for the Steelers.
I haven't read any sports related books. I have read the excerpt for Jaci's book and it sounds fantastic!

I am rooting for the Steelers. I believe experience will help them. I have not read a lot of sports books, but I am looking forward to reading Jaci Burton's new series.

I'm going to spend Sunday at the beach. If I were to be at home, I'd watch Puppy Bowl on animal Planet instead. I'm not much of a sports fan (unless it's the Olympics) so I don't care who wins.

I do enjoy the Chicago Stars books by SEP and my favorite is "Nobody's Baby But Mine".

Still, Jed Hill is just so hot on "The Perfect Play"...

I'm not bothered about who wins this superbowl -I do love football but neither team is big on my list but I will be rooting for the Packers!
I haven't read any these or any sports books as of yet, I am however very excited about Jaci's book :)
I am a new follower and great giveaway!

Caroline February 6, 2011 at 5:37 AM

All these books looks really good. Jaci Burton's book is for sure on the top of my list.... LOVE the cover

Maria (pronounced Mariah) I blame my mother... February 6, 2011 at 9:27 AM

To be honest I have not read any of these books YET! That is only because I had not realized that there were sports themed romances out there util I saw Jaci's book recently...and then it moved quickly up my TBR list! You see I am a HUGE football fan...and to be able to combine two of my loves is awesome!!!

As for my superbowl picks I am rooting for Aaron Rogers and the Packers. Nothing agains Big Ben and the Steelers but they have had thier turn and AR is on a role and playing fantastic! I would love to see him roll into the Big D (my city) and take home the Lambardi Trophy and his first superbowl ring!!! Not to mention I would win the office superbowl pool! I already won the regular season and playoff pools!

I am an old GFC follower & filled out the form!
Thank you!

I am not a big fan of either team, but I am kinda hoping that the Packers win. I love to read romances that feature sports heroes. Some of my favorites have been by SEP, Rachel Gibson, and Jill Shalvis. I like for the heroes to be alpha males.

Packers/Steelers, don't really know and I don't follow football and I don't like to watch it, but I'm all for the superbowl commercials :) Ironically I love to read sports related books. Rachel Gibson's hockey series and SEP's football series are among my fav. It Had To Be You is my top fav, I had a hard time liking the hero at first, but he sort of grew on me and I was rooting for him towards the end. This book is the only one in the series that features an actually game towards the end. She set it up and wrote it amazingly. I don't like to watch football, but I was on the edge of my seat and anxious reading the game she set up. Loved it!!

Boy, DH is rooting for the Steelers (old hometown) but we're also rooting against them on account of being fans of someone else now... It's all rather confusing and I'm not a very careful follower of football anyway--I hope this year's batch of commercials is a good one!

Some sports heroes' traits I love in a romance novel are the same as hero traits who happen to have other occupations--smart, tough, confident, willing to work hard for what's right, and then you can throw in totally buff, because we're talking athletes!

Some favorites, SEP's Chicago Stars, and Ryan in Line of Scrimmage, hockey players from Deirdre Martin and Rachel Gibson, Lori Foster's fighters... so many terrific ones!

Please include me for Game for Love and The Perfect Play--I have and loved the others!

I love football, but I'm neutral on both of the teams playing today. I guess if I had to choose, I'd choose the Packers. I like reading books with sports heroes because those guys in such amazing physical shape.

I'd especially like to read Line of Scrimmage because it's the only book by Marie Force that I haven't read, but I'd be happy with any of them. The cover on The Perfect Play is so hot that I'd love to win it just to stare at it for awhile.

It doesn't really matter to me who wins the Super Bowl - I just like football, the hunks that play and the commercials! I want my sports hero to be an alpha with some flaws that need attention. I haven't read too many sports romances but Lori Foster's MMA do come to mind.

I have no idea who is going to win and don't really care because I'm not a football fan. I love sports heroes who have integrity and a loving heart under their tough exteriors. One of my favorites is Wade from Jill Shalvis' Slow Heat.

I don't do sports but if forced I'd pick the Packers since Daddy is from Wisc. He doesn't do sports either though.
I adore Bella Andre. I have the Burton book on the top of my tbr mountain. I liked the snowboarder in Shalvis's book but then I love her books. Most of the fellas I've read have been ops or such, not many sporty kinds.
Thanks for the chance to win some great books!

Do not care who wins but Ben with the Steelers has a couple and the Packers quarterback does not have a super bowl win yet. Love the cover of The Perfect Play. I like the dedication of sports heros to playing the game and their ability to focus.

I don't watch a lot of football. A quality that I like in a sports hero is loyalty. One of my favorite sports romance novels is See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson.

I would have liked to see the Steelers win but that didn't happen, oh well. I have read The Perfect Play and I did like Jed, I mean Mick lol. I haven't read that many sports books but I like how the men have that cocky side but they can still melt for that right girl.
Thanks for the great giveaway, I'm a GFC follower.
