Do You Like This or Do You Like That?

Monday, May 9

I don't know if you noticed or not, but last week I tried something a little bit different with how I included exclusive excerpts from authors that were guests.  I usually just link to a Google Document that contains the longer excerpt, but then I found a free flipbook service that allows me to turn the excerpt into a mini book.  I love this idea and really like how it works, and I think the excerpts are easier and more enjoyable to read, plus, and this is what I found most appealing, was that it easily allowed any reader to post the flipbook excerpt that they loved immediately to your Facebook, Twitter, or website with just a click. But I'd love to know what your thoughts are!

Here are the options:

  or
  • A flipbook that is inside the post (like what I tried last week)

    1. Do you have a preference?
    2. Does one work better on your computer over the other.
    3. Would you be more likely to read one over another
    4. Can you see yourself sharing a flipbook on your Facebook wall, Twitter, blog, or email?
    5. And if you read the blog posts via email, or a Reader like Google Reader are you less likely to read the excerpt since it doesn't appear in the post without visiting the actual website?
    6. Or would you prefer to have both in the post?  A link and a flipbook?
Please take a few minutes to give me a yes/no for each of the questions, and if you'd like to share your reasons for your preferences I'd also love to hear what you have to say.  For everyone who shares their thoughts in the comments you'll be entered to win a copy of Jaci Burton's The Perfect Play as my way of saying THANKS!  But even if you've already read the book, or have it, I would still appreciate your input.

giveaway rules:  there aren't too many.
    • Only one entry per person,
    • open to US only, and
    • the giveaway will remain open until I select a winner sometime later this week.

*I am an Amazon affiliate and receive a small (and I mean very small) referral fee for purchases made using a link on this blog. I don't use Amazon to earn money, I use it because the widgets are cool, easy to use, and serve my purposes to showcase books & such with minimal effort, but most importantly they have great prices and offer both new and used items. As a book addict I love that I can find just about anything I want in one place. If you are going to purchase a featured book anyway, and you know you won't pay more by using the links on this blog than you would by visiting Amazon on your own, I will be eternally grateful for supporting this blog by using the links, and don't forget that the referral fees from your purchases will sponsor the "Reader Rewards" giveaways :)

    1. preference? no
    2. Does one work better? no
    3. more likely to read one? not necessarily
    4. sharing? I like the flipbook, and could see myself using it.
    5. Google reader/less likely? probably, but if the book sounds interesting and there is info that is garbled (like the flipbook coding) in the GR text, I usually go to the website anyways.
    6. Both? one or the other works

    1. No preference, but the flipbook is pretty neat.
    2. No, I had no problem with either.
    3. No
    4. Yes
    5. No
    6. Either works for me, but I think people like having a choice of a link or flipbook.

    1. I like the flip book.

    2. the flip book . I had a problem loading the google for some reason. I don't know why because I use google docs too.

3.I still vote the flip book.

    4. Sure

    5. depends on how busy I am but I try to come to the site anyway so doesn't really matter.

    6. doesn't really matter to me.

Both methods work well. I go to the excerpt and read it if I am interested in the book. Offering both would give your visitors a choice.
thanks for the previews and reviews you do. Not all are to my reading preference, but that is why I visit lots of blogs, to get an idea of the variety of books out there.

1.Do you have a preference? I really, really like the flip book better.

2.Does one work better on your computer over the other. No, they work about the same, but the flip book is very clear and easy to use.

3.Would you be more likely to read one over another. Yes, the flip book.

4.Can you see yourself sharing a flipbook on your Facebook wall, Twitter, blog, or email? Heck yeah! On facebook.

5.And if you read the blog posts via email, or a Reader like Google Reader are you less likely to read the excerpt since it doesn't appear in the post without visiting the actual website? I glace at my email, but always visit your site.

6.Or would you prefer to have both in the post? A link and a flipbook? To make less work for you, flipbook please!

I love the flipbook. It is clear and concise on my screeen. Easy to use. You betcha - give us an excellent excerpt - I'm gonna share!

    1. Do you have a preference? - excerpt, definitely

    2. Does one work better on your computer over the other? - They both work fine on my computer.

    3. Would you be more likely to read one over another? - I rarely click through from my Google Reader, so I doubt I would ever look at a flipbook.

    4. Can you see yourself sharing a flipbook on your Facebook wall, Twitter, blog, or email? - not really, see above

    5. And if you read the blog posts via email, or a Reader like Google Reader are you less likely to read the excerpt since it doesn't appear in the post without visiting the actual website? - I don't like to click through from my Google Reader.

    6. Or would you prefer to have both in the post? A link and a flipbook? I prefer the actual excerpt in the post.

    My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
    Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
