Guest Author & Giveaways: Lorelei James featuring Chasin' Eight

Friday, July 1

Do you have favorite authors that you will drop anything that you are currently reading in order to feast on their very latest and greatest story?  I do, but not many.  Lorelei James is on that very short list, and it's not just because of the super smokin' hot sexin' in the books (though she is known for them and I love love love them).  It's everything about her stories that work for me, because they are just that first and foremost..stories about people who fall in love.  They are stories that are romances, that just so happen to contain explicit love scenes (sometimes quite a few of them). Even though they are categorized as Erotic Romances, all are written with humor, heart, honesty and heroism, with a plot that is more than just a vehicle to insert another love scene.  It's the perfect romance package, at least for me, and is the gold standard by which I judge all other erotic romances.

Though Chasin' Eight is the eleventh book in the Rough Riders series, and  the series revolves around one family, each book is unique.  The voice is the same, but the stories themselves are not cookie cutter, but distinctive to the characters and their individual paths to love.  I admire that so much because it would be very easy to use a tried and true formula in a well established series, and churn out book after book of basically the same plot just different names.  To rest on your laurels so to speak.  Let's face it, I think we all could name at least one author or series that we've read, or have read in the past who has done that, or is doing that.  I can.

RITA's are being awarded tonight for the best romances from 2010, and sadly digital books don't have a category, but if I could I would award Lorelei James with one because she deserves it for all of the reasons I've described and so many more.  Lorelei is my special guest today to have some fun and share a bit about Chasin' Eight which is her latest Rough Riders novel that was released earlier this week from Samhain Publishing.  Read, enjoy, and most importantly have fun on this Friday!

SHE WANTS IT.  HE'S GOT IT.  AND THE CHASE IS ON.

Bull rider Chase McKay has finally landed in a pile too big to charm his way out of. Caught with his pants down, he finds himself bucked right off the PBR tour until he can get his act together.

Hollywood actress Ava Cooper became the tabloids’ favorite target when her longtime boyfriend was outed as gay. She needs a place to lay low and a chance to prove to herself that she can satisfy a red-blooded man between the sheets. The sexy, rugged cowboy she finds holed up in her Wyoming hideaway seems like the answer to her every fantasy.

But Chase has sworn off women. Forever. Or at least a month. Whichever comes first.

When they take to the road to get Chase more hands-on bull riding experience, they have every intention of keeping their hands off each other. But the two headstrong stars quickly end up riding a hot and heady rodeo circuit all their own—until the press gets wind of their affair. When the dust clears and the lights of the paparazzi fade, are they ready to give up chasing the dream for a chance of finding forever?

Warning: Strap in, another hot McKay is about to bust out of the gate and this bull rider knows a thing or two about riding hard…

Read an excerpt, and an additional one (because one is not enough...just like the McKays)

Now that you've read blurb and the excerpts, let's have some fun with a Chasin' Eight quiz (though it won't be as much fun as reading the story *grin*...

1.  ACCORDING TO "SUGAR TITS", CHASE'S PBR PUBLICIST, WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO HIM?

A.  Bull Riding (It's all about the buckle baby!  Bulls and Babes what more do you need?)

B.  Chase McKay (yeah, his sexy bad self has kind of a Napoleon complex, but if anyone can make 5'7" be more man than you can handle, it's him)

C.  Sex (despite his self imposed celibacy, for the fourth time this year :) Then again he's a McKay so I think it's safe to say that he'll cave in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...)

D.  All of the above

2.  WHAT DOES AVA DO TO TRY AND GET HER GROOVE BACK AFTER HER NOW EX-BOYFRIEND ANNOUNCES TO THE WORLD HE'S GAY?

A:  She's got a new look, now all she needs is an change of scenery, a new guy would be FANFUCKINGTASTIC...and maybe a new career (the circus is looking mighty fine right now)

B:  Who needs a Hollywood hero, when you can have a McKay cowboy that's wilder than any eight second ride

C:  Spanking benches and ceiling restraints may not be her usual decor, but hey....when in Rome :)  (especially when you're trying to prove you are more than enough woman to get the HAWT cowboy to give in and ditch the whole self imposed celibacy thing)

D:  All of the above

3.  WHICH CHASIN' EIGHT QUOTE DOES AVA TEMPTINGLY TEASE CHASE WITH?

A.  “You do realize you are supposed to stay on the bull a full eight seconds and not hop off at six point nine.”

B.  “I thought you’d have me tied to the bed with your bull rope by now, making me scream your name as you rode me hard.”

C:  “Oh wow. Sorry. For a second I forgot that you are captain of USS Abstinence…"

D.  All of the above

4.  WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING SCENARIOS FROM CHASIN' EIGHT WILL BECOME YOUR NEWEST FAVORITE ROUGH RIDER MOMENT?

A.  Two counts of sexual molestation of a fried Twinkie (you'll have to read it to believe it)

B.  Smokin' HAWT cowboy lovin' 21 stories up looking down at New York City (gives a whole new meaning to a "million dollar view")

C.  Buck ass nekkid cowboy in chaps (picture it....'nuff said)

D.  All of the above

Congratulations Lorelei, and thank you for gifting us with another Rough Rider story!  I wish I could gift you with a RITA.  Instead I will continue to buy your books in hopes you make the NYT lists :)   All I can say is keep them coming, and I'll keep buying!  I don't think I can ever get enough of not only this series, but all of your romances.  To say that I am looking forward to Cowboy Casanova (Rough Riders #12, October 2011), Kissin' Tell (Rough Riders #13, 2012), and Wrangled and Tangled (Blacktop Cowboys #3, November 2011)  may very well be the biggest understatement I will make this year :)

If you've not had the pleasure of reading one of Lorelei's novels written as either Lorelei James, or Lori Armstrong, you can find more about her on her websites www.loreleijames.com, or www.loriarmstrong.com, Facebook, Twitter, as well as Myspace and her blog, or you can join her no holds barred Yahoo Group  where she will sometimes post special sneak peak excerpts and insight, not to mention all of the other wonderful members  :)

To celebrate the release of Chasin' Eight, the 11th book in the Rough Riders series,  Lorelei would like to giveaway either a print copy of Raising Kane, or your choice of an ebook from her backlist.  And because Lorelei is one of my favorite authors, I am also going to giveaway one digital copy of Chasin' Eight to a lucky Musings follower via an Amazon Kindle ebook gift, or through All Romance Ebooks gift option as a Musings reader reward!  Here's how you can enter to win:

*I am an Amazon affiliate and receive a small (and I mean very small) referral fee for purchases made using a link on this blog. I don't use Amazon to earn money, I use it because the widgets are cool, easy to use, and serve my purposes to showcase books & such with minimal effort, but most importantly they have great prices and offer both new and used items. As a book addict I love that I can find just about anything I want in one place. If you are going to purchase a featured book anyway, and you know you won't pay more by using the links on this blog than you would by visiting Amazon on your own, I will be eternally grateful for supporting this blog by using the links, and don't forget that the referral fees from your purchases will sponsor the "Reader Rewards" giveaways :)

I enjoyed the excerpts, wickedly funny, especially the name-calling part. Ava is a fiesty woman and just what Chase needs. She handles him walking into the bedroom well-enough to call him names! The fact that they are bot hseeking a hiatus in Ginger and Kane's "love shack" is a good sign, instant sparks.

I did my best on the quiz...
1.c
2.a
3.a
4.a (fried Twinkie?!)

The Rough Riders series is all new to me but it sounds like a fun ride. What is most tempting is seeing the woman rein the man in. Seems Ava is getting a good start on hooking Chase in.

I can't wait to get my hands on Chase...ah I mean the book, of course. ;)
I did my best with the questions:
1.A
2.A
3.A
4.D (hopefully)
And I think AJ's and Cord's story is one of my favourite Rough Rider books but it's really hard to choose.

Quiz answers:
1. B
2. A
3. D
4. D, but especially A, B, and C

Chasin Eight was awesome. Definitely makes into my top 3 Rough Riders books...but then each one I read makes it up there, lol! My absolute favorite is Rough, Raw, and Ready.

I discovered the world of Rough Riders about a year ago and quickly devoured each book. I've read the series 3 times through, I think. Sometimes I just grab one and read it over for funsies. Now that I'm finished with Chase, I think I'll start over again....

Oh heck. I read them but I'm not sure. I'm going with "D" for all the questions. That's the answers I like anywho!

I picked up ROUGH, RAW, AND READY on a lark one day and read it. It was so good and the span of emotions it took me on - I was wiped. I have the first five of the series on the TBR and have yet to read them. (Anyone want to lend me more time? Anyone?)

I'm not a big fan of western romance, but Ms. James does it like no other. YUMMY!

All D's. I haven't read any of her books but I'm going to definitely look into them - Hollywood and Cowboys - love that combo. Follow on gfc

I'm guessing the answers are all "D". I love the Rough Riders. I think my favorite book so far is #4, Tied Up, Tied Down, but I also loved Colt and India in Branded as Trouble. I've got a bit of catching up to do though, I think I'm about 3 books behind.
