Guest Author & Giveaway: Cate Lord featuring Lucky Girl

Wednesday, September 7

I've said it before and I will say it again, one of my favorite types of romances are Romantic Comedies whether it be a novel, or a movie.  Add in a sexy British hero with an accent (something that I love love love) and I am in Booklover heaven my friends :)

Author Cate Lord is my guest today to share her new Contemporary Romantic Comedy, Lucky Girl, as well as a cheeky interview with her Hero, Nick, along with an exclusive excerpt from the book just for you.  Read and enjoy!

It’s exciting to be here at Seductive Musings.  I’m especially thrilled that Nick Mondinello, the British hero of my contemporary romantic comedy Lucky Girl, a September release from Entangled Publishing, agreed to be interviewed here today.

Cate:  It’s great to see you, Nick.

Nick smiles: Good to see you, too. *His gaze slides lazily over Cate’s red v-neck top and floral skirt*  Although you’ve seen me quite a few times before.

Cate:  You mean because I created you, as I created Jessica Devlin, the American heroine of Lucky Girl?  Because you’re the starring man in my book?

Nick’s grin widens.  You know what I look like naked.

Cate blushes:  Um . . .

Nick:  And the way my hand feels as it slides over a woman’s soft, bare arm.

Cate blushes even more.  Nick—

Nick:  And the way my mouth—

Cate:  Nick!

Nick chuckles:  What?  It’s true, isn’t it?  As the author, don’t you know everything there is to know about me?

Cate:  Yes, it’s true.  But the focus of this interview isn’t me, it’s you.  *Cate’s voice lowers*  Stop looking at me like that.  You’ll make Jess jealous.

Nick chuckles and slouches back in his chair:  I was only teasing.  I don’t get many chances to tease you, Mistress Author.

Cate shakes her head and laughs.  That’s true, too.  Now, can we get on with the interview?  Please?

Nick:  Sure, since you asked so nicely.

Cate breathes out a little sigh:  Tell me a bit about yourself.

Nick:  I’m British and grew up in England.  And yes, I have an accent; Jess tells me it’s very sexy.  I own a house in Hertfordshire, but work in London at a public relations firm.  Oh, and I’m James Bond gorgeous and a Sex God Playboy.  Right?

Cate rolls her eyes:  Yes, when Jess sees you again after two years, she says you resemble a young Pierce Brosnan, the actor who starred in a couple of James Bond movies.  And yes, Jess’s cousins called you a Sex God Playboy, because, they say, you’re lusted after by warm-blooded women everywhere.

Nick sniggers:  I should star in books more often.

Cate:  You’re also good friends with the husband of Tilly, Jess’s English cousin, who recently got married.

Nick:  I was his best man.

Cate:  That’s how you and Jess, the maid of honor, both came to be in the wedding party—and how you ended up seeing each other again after a chance meeting in a pub.

Nick:  You’re referring to our first meeting—the night two years ago when we were strangers and I comforted her.

Cate nods:  It meant a lot to her.  She’s never forgotten you.  When she agreed to take part in her cousin’s wedding and booked her two-week vacation from work to fly from Orlando to England, a tiny, secret part of her hoped she just might see you again.

Nick shakes his head:  Poor Jess.  The night we first met, she’d gone to her grandfather’s funeral the day before, and at the pub, she’d obviously had too many drinks.  I held her hair away from her face and put my arms around her while she threw up in the potted plant.

Cate:  What a hero.

Nick shrugs:  What else could I do?  She was so upset.  I couldn’t leave her to cry alone.  By the way, thanks for giving us a second chance.  If we hadn’t both attended Tilly’s wedding, who knows if we’d have met again?

Cate:  I didn’t make it easy for you and Jess to fall in love, did I?

Nick snorts:  Not at all.  The way you tormented me and Jess in your story—

Cate:  I know.  You both had some personal issues to resolve.  You had your boss’s manipulative daughter to deal with, and Jess had recently been dumped by her unfaithful ex-fiancé.  Readers want to see characters in a book struggle to overcome challenges.  That’s what makes a story interesting and what makes the “Happily Ever After” between the hero and heroine even more wonderful.

Nick raises one eyebrow:  You talk about ‘snogging’ a lot in your book.  Was that one of the challenges in the story?

Cate:  Yes.  Jess set herself a personal goal to kiss you—or, as you Brits say, ‘snog’ you.  The word sounds a bit obscene, doesn’t it?

Nick:  Obscene or not, snogging is jolly good fun.  Oh, and just to remind you, Jess and I are having a romantic dinner together after this interview, and I don’t want to be late.

Cate:  Fine.  Just a few more questions, okay?

Nick winks:  Yes, Mistress Author.

Cate:  What’s your favorite alcoholic drink?

Nick:  English beer.

Cate:  What’s your favorite dessert?

Nick:  Bread Pudding.  Or maybe English Trifle?  They’re both delicious.

Cate: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Nick:  Snog Jess.

Cate:  What’s your least favorite chore?

Nick:  Picking my dirty clothes up from the floor.  Jess hates tripping over my underwear.

Cate:  Anything else you’d like readers to know about you?

Nick:  That I look good naked?

Cate:  Honestly, Nick—

Nick:  If they’d like to see just how James Bond gorgeous I am, they should pick up a copy of Lucky Girl.  I know Jess would appreciate it, too, since she’s trying to convince you to write a sequel.

Jessica Devlin isn’t looking for love. Heartbroken after being dumped by her unfaithful ex-fiancé, she’s determined to have a fabulous time during her vacation in England where she’ll be maid-of-honor at her cousin’s wedding. After working overtime as beauty editor of Orlando’s O Tart magazine, avoiding dating, and putting on ten pounds, Jess is ready to toss her past like an empty lipstick tube and party like a single gal.

But when she steps into the church on her cousin’s wedding day, she sees the one man who could sabotage her plan—James-Bond-gorgeous Nick Mondinello. She’s never forgotten the London marketing exec who held her in his arms after her beloved grandfather’s funeral two years ago. Ambitious, and lusted after by women everywhere, Nick is completely wrong for guarded, Plain Jane Jess.

Could Spy Man Nick ever fall for her? Nope. Not unless Jess is one lucky girl.

I follow via GFC, and I don't know anyone who met at a wedding. :( That's not very entertaining I know. I know people who reconnected at weddings. People from High School who hadn't seen each other in a long time, but not actually met.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I don't know anyone who was lucky to fall in love at someone else's wedding but that would be an amazing love story to live. Great interview, Nick is such a hoot to read about and I love sexy british accents too!

Afraid I don't know anyone who met someone at a wedding then fell in love with them.
This book sounds like great fun. I love second chance stories. I certainly helps when the hero is a nice guy and easy on the eyes. Cate, you should have given him a flaw of some sort, maybe a crooked nose. He sounds too good looking.
Thanks for the excerpts.

Kathleen, what a touching story about that couple married more than 21 years. And it sounds like attending that wedding was a very good thing for your cousin. :) True love is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

Cate Lord September 7, 2011 at 8:45 PM

Danielle, I know people who reconnected at weddings, too. Thanks for stopping by today and commenting. :)

librarypat, I'm glad you like the sound of LUCKY GIRL. While I didn't give Nick physical flaws, I've done so with heroes in my other books. :) Thanks for leaving a comment, and it was lovely to meet you!

Tore, thanks for the compliments about Nick and my book. :)

No can't say that I know anyone personally who's gotten together that way, but I do think its awfully romantic :). The interview was fun, Nick sounds like quite the charmer. I loved the excerpts shared as well ... really interested in reading the whole story.

My mother and father met at a wedding. She was on the bride's side, he on the groom's and both came solo. She didn't think they hit it off, but he offered her a ride home and 50+ years later and 4kids are still together.

Hmmm, I don't know of any real life wedding love connections. I do have a favourite couple who did in a story. Blue-Eyed Devil! Hardy and Haven :)
