Friday Fun: We're Talking Covers

Friday, December 16

Last week Seductive Reviewer DD sent me a link to this video titled "The Making of a Romance Novel Cover"  featuring the creative director Kristine Mills-Noble from Kensington Publishing (think Brava and Aphrodisia...) from a recent Time Magazine article.  Thanks DD!  (you might have to give it a few seconds to fully load)

After watching that video I had several thoughts.
  • How can I get the job of the spritzer's a tough job but someone has to do it right :)
  • I need to send Ms. Mills-Noble a Christmas card to thank her for the covers she gives us :)
  • And who will be the new "Fabio" from the 2000's? Ya know the one you look back on and think "Egads" did I really find that attractive? (Not that I was ever into Fabio, although I wasn't reading romance at that point in my life either)
  • Must get to the library and check out the December 5th issue of Time to read the interview...and check out any pics while I'm at it ;)
I love love love these types of behinds the scenes videos.  I have another Thursday's Thoughts coming up about this, but that is a whole 'nother post.  So tell me who you think the new "Fabio" is/will be?

And just for fun I searched out the covers that the model in the video might be gracing, and found the cover for Burning Up by Anne Marsh which will be released fall of 2012.  I have to say, after seeing the images in the video I'm kinda disappointed in the actual cover.  What do you think?  The series sounds interesting though, "Smoke Jumpers".

For Jack Donovan, smoke jumping is a way of life. He lives for the adrenaline rush—the thrill of flying over the burning California hills, the intensity of diving straight into the inferno, the glory of taming the forces of nature. Love is a distant ember compared to the feeling he gets fighting fires—until an emergency call from his hometown brings him face to face with the one woman he can’t forget …

Lily never got over the handsome rogue who once kissed her senseless—and then left. She vowed she was done with love ’em-and-leave ’em men and small town life. Until a series of malicious fires set by a stalker has her running home to hide. Now, their summer is heating up as Jack fights to save her from the stalker’s fiery threats and to convince her to give the passion between them a second chance.

While I was prowling the upcoming releases I also happened across the newest cover in Elizabeth Amber's Lords of Satyr series, SEVIN...and it's positively, deliciously sinful!

Lord Sevin Satyr indulges freely in the delights of the flesh within his infamous Salone di Passione, the talk of 1880s Rome. Surely the Humans who would deny his kind their pleasures can be persuaded to share them in a new Salone he plans just for them—above all, the beautiful Alexa Patrizzi. Fiery and spirited, she is made for sin…

Sevin’s younger brother Lucien possesses powers he cannot control. Held in the Roman catacombs as a sex slave until he was eighteen, he finds refuge in the ElseWorld—and sexual healing in the arms of Natalia, a maenad, who thinks Luc too beautiful, too young for her. But when his mirrored eyes heat to molten silver at her touch, she can only love him more…

Finally on this Friday I thought I would share the ebooks I either purchased or were FREE that I recently downloaded.  What did you get?

I'll try to be back later today with a long overdue review, and possibly another gift :)

Interesting clip--I very much enjoyed it. And I think I may have to fight you for the spritzer position. :D LOL.

I'm not sure who is/will be the next Fabio--honestly, I rarely recognize the cover models of the various novels I pick up. Maybe because the really good covers have a halfnaked man on it and I'm distracted by features other than his face? :)

And as to the e-books you got this week--great list! I've got pretty much all of those ones (with the exception of Lorelei James and Courtney's book) last week for FREE on my NOOK. Ah, I love free books! Lol.

I never know who's on the cover w/o someone else pointing it out & still then have trouble putting name & face together beyond that so I couldn't begin to guess who the next fabio would be. ;)

nice book selection -- I've had Trace's psychic on by wish list so when I noticed in on sale free, I quickly downloaded it ;) )now to find time to read it ;) along with all the other books in the tbr pile) I enjoyed Tessa's book & look forward to her next in the series.

Sheree is a good source to find out who the cover models are...especially if it is a Paul Marron cover. That girls knows all his good parts, front and back :)

I really liked the first book in the Spindle Cove series, which is why I bought the novella. I liked the other books I've read of her's too, but really like the beginning of this new series. Still haven't read the novella yet though :(

Then I consider this post a job well done :)

I would guess at Jimmy Thomas because he has surpassed Fabio in his covers already. He's got a beautiful body. :) Elizabeth Amber's covers are just gorgeous and show me what a Hot blooded female I really am. lol lol Can't wait for Sevin. Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays.

Thanks for the shoutout. :)

I still giggle when watching that video....

For me, a cover model has to have a hard body but must also have an attractive face. Now, Jimmy Thomas is a sweetheart but his face looks too familiar to me (as someone who grew up in an Italian neighborhood). Why he's too familiar but Paul Marron (who is also of Italian descent) isn't, I don't know. Another model whose face leaves me meh is Timothy Adams. Maybe the covers should just stick to torsos without the faces (in which case I'd nominate David Kimmerle's chest and abs - yowza).
