Guest Author & Giveaway: Amelia Fayer featuring Lust in the Library

Tuesday, February 21

I've had a long time love affair with libraries.  I love the potential that they hold, the things you can learn, and all the great stories that are waiting to be discovered.  One thing I haven't found though, is the type of love/lust that my guest author's characters find in a library in her debut novella :)

Amelia Fayer is my guest today to share a bit about her story, Lust in the Library, and the inspiration that sparked her Muse.  Enjoy!

I am so excited to be here at Seductive Musings, thanks for having me.

A lot of people ask author’s how they come up with their stories, and honestly, most of the time it’s a pretty boring confluence of events that happen to click at the right time in the right way that explode with all the force of an atomic bomb into a story.

‘Lust in the Library’ though...well, that one was ready-made.

When I was in college there was a list of places you were supposed to ‘do it,’ I think that every big university must have these (or at least I hope so, I don’t want to have gone to the *only* school with one of these lists). These are usually places that are intrinsic to the school (the president’s lawn) or dangerous to get away with (the quad). I would have ‘very serious discussions’ with my roommates about what would constitute sex in those situations.

Of course, one of “The Seven,” as they were known, was the stacks in the library, and considered one of the easier locations to ‘get’ as they afforded a certain level of privacy, at least more than the quad. Which got me thinking: If the library was the ‘safest’ and ‘easiest’ place to have sex, shouldn’t there be couples in flagrante delicto around every corner?

Bam!  The original seed for “Lust in the Library” was planted.

It’s been a few years since I graduated, but the story never really went away and during a girl’s getaway weekend, my old college roommates and I began talking about "The Seven" again and this time I wasn’t distracted by silly things like term papers.

This past year, I was at my alma mater and decided to take a walk around the library, thinking about the things that could be going on around every corner. Of course, I didn’t see or hear of any ‘goings-on.’

That’s what fiction is for.

Some like it hot, and some like it in the reference section.

Sara is having a love affair with books. But, since books can't make love to you, it means she's in the middle of a very long dry spell. Until a sexy Brit shows up. Suddenly she's learning just how stimulating a library can be up against a bookcase, behind the card catalog, on the circulation desk…

Meanwhile: Veronica is incredibly frustrated. While Sara and her new man are using the library as their personal adult playground, she's stuck with only her thesis and her sexual fantasies. But Andrew, her crush, isn't above using his assets to get Veronica right where he wants her: alone, in a darkened corner of the stacks.

Who knew reading could be this pleasurable?

Congratulations Amelia, and thanks for being my guest today!  If you'd like to learn more about Amelia and the books she writes you can find her at her website www.ameliafayer.com, Facebook.

Thank you for hosting Amelia today.

I feel that I have missed something. I didn't know about these places when I was in college. I can not imagine doing it on the quad or the President's lawn.

In school the only SEVEN I ever heard of was behind the sports pavilion. It may have just been an urban myth. Who knows?

Thanks for hosting me today at Seductive Musings!

Uh oh....I really hope my alma mater isn't the only school with one of these lists...it makes us seem
like we didn't do any studying!

Tamsyn February 21, 2012 at 10:06 AM

We have students' dorms on the university grounds and at night you can always find couples smooching around somewhere in the dark! :o)

Didn't go to college, so this is the first I've heard of 'the seven'. I'd add on the lawn behind the garage at home! 'nuff said! HEHEHE

Amelia: if your book was made into a movie, what rating would it carry and who would play the maid characters?

One of my roommates reminded me that as we went to school in the 'great white north' we had a lot of time on our hands to be thinking about this sort of thing as there wasn't too much to do.

Karen H: Well...I would say tone it down and make it an R and a rom com. As to casting...wow, this is hard. Give me a few...

Can't say I ever engaged in a naughty rendezvous anywhere public on my college's campus. But I definitely spotted some pretty serious sessions on the quad when I was walking around late at night!

I think the appeal of the library setting is that well-known "need to be quiet!" Very sexy to try to have a hot time while being very, very shush about it. :)

Amelia Fayer February 21, 2012 at 12:31 PM

Karen H - ok I thought of 3 of the 4 - William would be Ewan McGregor, Sarah would be Rachel Weiss (if she can do an American accent), and Veronica would be Mila Kunis. I couldn't really think of someone to play Andrew - I was thinking Emilie Hirsch, but I think he does more serious things, but most of the other guys are too old or not sexy enough...

Mary February 21, 2012 at 4:30 PM

I've never heard of a 'seven' type thing before. But then I'm getting older and aren't as hip to all these types of things. lol At least that's what my daughter tells me.

Do you think this type of list maybe starts out an an urban myth and people just run with it?

I didn't go to college so I never heard of seven. I really would like to read this book. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com

I've heard of panty raids, but never "the seven". DebP

As an academic librarian for more than 20 years, I can tell you that the Library is still a hot place to score. Look at the movie The Prince & Me when Paige & Eddie get caught in the stacks! In my own Library, we've had to add additional cameras to monitor some of the "quieter" areas.

Amelia Fayer February 21, 2012 at 7:38 PM

Renald: I have...um...not heard of panty raids and am a bit afraid to google it. It's weird how students from different schools occupy, ahem, their time. It's like a little social experiment. I feel like there is a movie I've missed (Animal House?)

Catherine Lee: Adding the Prince & Me to Netflix now!

Tore: I hope you like it!

Mary: There's got to be an urban legend somewhere at the bottom of this. I grew up in NYC and I had only heard about Central Park. Now I'm thinking that my school was filled with a bunch of over-sexed lunatics who managed to come up with seven!

SolDucky February 21, 2012 at 10:12 PM

Was there any particular person who was an inspiration for the main character?

Amelia Fayer February 22, 2012 at 9:09 AM

SolDucky - not particularly, both Sara and Veronica are amalgams of people I've met/know, although in retrospect Sara is similar to Evie from The Mummy.

Emiliana25 February 22, 2012 at 2:47 PM

Really Evie? Now I know why her image poped up in my mind, when I was reading the summary!

I went to a small university so we didn't really had such places....

Not sure about the "seven" but it was cool at Texas to snag an athlete - mini celebrities at UT.

Panties Raids: Female upper classmen told freshmen to keep new undies in the upper dresser drawers. So when the guys sneaked in ,to steal panties ,that was the first place they would look. Ah... fun times.Deb P

What are you going to write next Amelia?

We had a field next to the library and this was quite popular because weed and flowers were pretty high. ;)

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
