Guest Author & Giveaway: Shana Galen featuring The Rogue Pirate's Bride

Thursday, February 16

Good things come to those who least that is how the saying goes.  But for someone like me who wants what they want when they want it, which means NOW, it's pure torture :)

I was hooked on the Sons of the Revolution series from page one of the first book, greedily read book two, greatly anticipated book three...then waited, and waited and waited. My wait is finally over, woo hoo!  Historical romance author Shana Galen is my guest today to share a bit about the third and final book in the Sons of the Revolution series, The Rogue Pirate's Bride.  Have I mentioned that I love pirate heroes? LOVE.  Enjoy!

The Wait is Finally Over!

Thank you so much to Seductive Musings for having me back again. I’ve been looking forward to stopping by!

And I’ve been looking forward to seeing The Rogue Pirate’s Bride on shelves for what seems like forever. Some of you may know the book was slotted to come out in April 2011 as The Making of a Rogue. My publisher decided they wanted to do it up bigger and better and delayed the book so they could give it a new cover and title. I love the new cover and the new title, though I know some readers are disappointed it doesn’t match the rest of the series. Others were disappointed they had to wait so long to read Bastien’s story.

Hopefully, it’s worth the wait. After all, how can you be disappointed in a hero who’s not only a charming rogue but a pirate? Bastien Harcourt, the Marquis de Valere, escaped the horrors of the French Revolution as a boy. He ran from the murdering mobs with a trusted servant and signed on with the first ship’s captain he met. He learned sailing and life on the sea quickly, and when The Rogue Pirate’s Bride opens, Bastien is captain of his own ship and goes by the moniker, Captain Cutlass. He prefers to be called a privateer, but when pressed, even he admits he’s really a pirate. But he’s a pirate with a mission: revenge. He wants to kill Jourdain, the Barbary corsair who murdered his friend and mentor.

Raeven Russell wants revenge as well. She’s the daughter of a British admiral. She’s spent her entire life on ships and was engaged to a dashing young captain who was recently killed in a skirmish with pirates. Guess who the pirate captain who killed Raeven’s fiancé was? That’s right. Bastien.

One of my favorite scenes is from the very first chapter of the book when Raeven challenges Bastien to a duel. She’s dressed as a boy, and he, being an honorable pirate, doesn’t want to kill a child. I love how Raeven is so intent on her mission and how hard she has to work to convince Bastien to take her seriously. And I love how cool and calm and charming Bastien is. He’s exactly the kind of pirate I’d want to meet.

or read it in a Google document here

What’s the last thing you waited and waited for? A movie release? A new book by your favorite author? A visit from a friend or relative?

Revenge should be sweet, but it may cost him everything…

Out to avenge the death of his mentor, Bastien discovers himself astonishingly out of his depth when confronted with a beautiful, daring young woman who is out for his blood…

Forgiveness is unthinkable, but may be her only hope…

British Admiral’s daughter Raeven Russell believes Bastien responsible for her fiancé’s death. But once the fiery beauty crosses swords with Bastien, she’s not so sure she really wants him to change his wicked ways…

Congratulations Shana, and thank you for being our guest!  If you'd like to learn more about Shana and the historical romances that she writes you can visit her at her website, Twitter, Facebook, or at The Sisterhood of the Jaunty Quills which she shares with fellow authors Kristin Higgins, Terri Brisbin, Kathryn Smith, and many more.

Maureen, vacation is definitely one of those things it's hard to wait for. And then it's always over too quickly! Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Shana,

I'm really looking forward to my son and his family coming back in June for a holiday. My son works in London and I miss him and his family so very much.

I'm also looking forward to your follow up book to Lord and Lady Spy , which I really enjoyed.

All of your books make for great reading. I'd love to win a copy of "The Rogue Pirate's Bride".

Thanks for the fantastic post and giveaway!

Ummmm... I usually wait impatiently for new releases :) While I know the logistics of publishing (vaguely) as a reader, it's *agonizing* to wait a year or so, especially if it's a much loved series or if the previous book ends on a cliff hanger. But, the books are even better b/c I've haunted Amazon/bookstores until release date and I enjoy/appreciate it more b/c of the wait.

I loved, loved, loved Lord and Lady Spy. I haven't had a chance to read any more of Ms. Galen, but she is definitely on my "must buy back list" list :)

Congrats on the new release!

Thanks for the giveaway!

Hmm... I am waiting for the Hunger Games Movie... Loved the books and waiting for the movie now...

ShanaGalen February 16, 2012 at 11:13 AM

You're welcome, Bethie. Thank you for stopping by.

ShanaGalen February 16, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Hi Diane!! You should go to London to visit your son! Great chance to see all the history you read about :-)

Good luck with the giveaway. You are ever-faithful.

ShanaGalen February 16, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Thanks, Erin. It can be frustrating for authors as well. We don't always have control over the publishing of our novels. I suppose that's why so many authors are self-publishing.

ShanaGalen February 16, 2012 at 11:16 AM

May, I'm waiting for the Hunger Games movie too. March 23, hurry up!

Kathleen O February 16, 2012 at 11:33 AM

I love this series, but I am waiting until I have all three books and then I can read them one right after the other..
It is sometimes very very hard to wait for the next book by my fav authors to come out.. I always feel like a kid at Christmas time waiting for Santa to bring me that gift I really really wanted..

ShanaGalen February 16, 2012 at 12:03 PM

Kathleen, it sounds like you are actually pretty good at waiting. I always think about waiting until I have an entire series to begin, but I never can!

librarypat February 16, 2012 at 12:22 PM

I have read several reviews of this book and all have had high praise for it. It is hard not to like a good pirate story or a good pirate. Admittedly, the reality of pirates was very different. Most were rather ruthless killers. But, this is romantic fiction and we will take them the way we want them. Love the cover.

The last thing we waited for was out granddaughter. Our daughter was overdue about a week. She was so certain things were going to happen just the way she planned them - no drugs, home delivery by a midwife, easy delivery. She was delusional, as many of us know, it rarely works that way. Things didn't go smoothly, but after a 54 hour labor (I love nights in waiting room chairs), she had a bouncing baby girl. She may have given us a hard time getting here, but she really is a sweet natured child.. Definitely worth the wait.

GFC Follower, librarypat.

Librarypat, I agree that the reality of pirates is quite different than the fiction. Your poor daughter! 54 hours! I'm glad the baby is a sweetie, but she would have been loved even if she was ornery, no doubt.

Tore February 16, 2012 at 1:31 PM

The last thing I wait for is the Breaking Dawn Part 1 Release. Now I am waiting for Breaking Dawn Part II. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book.

CrystalGB February 16, 2012 at 1:42 PM

Hi Shana. Your book sounds great. I love the cover. When I am reading a series, I am always anxious waiting for the next book to come out.

Tore, when does Breaking Dawn, Part II come out? I loved the way Part I ended.

ShanaGalen February 16, 2012 at 2:43 PM

Thanks, Crystal!

Lexi February 16, 2012 at 9:01 PM

The last thing I waited for was a book (seems like I am always waiting for books to come out). I didn't realize that this book had been pushed back so far, but inbetween we got Lord and Lady Spy which was wonderful!!!!
Can't wait for your next series, even if I have to wait for them to be released I will still be excited about them =)

Hi Shana. Your book sounds great!
It seems like I'm always waiting for a book to come out.

June M. February 17, 2012 at 3:30 AM

I think I am always waiting for a new release by a favorite author. Luckily, I have a lot of them so I have a new book often (not so good for the wallet though, lol).
Your new book sounds great. I can't wait to read more about Bastien & Raeven and their relationship.

ShanaGalen February 17, 2012 at 12:49 PM

Thank you, Lexi. I have to say my readers have been very patient and understanding.

ShanaGalen February 17, 2012 at 12:50 PM

Thanks, Chey. Me, too--and not my books. But there are so many excellent books coming up.

ShanaGalen February 17, 2012 at 12:51 PM

Thanks, June. I think one thing I enjoy about finding new-to-me authors is being able to read all their books without waiting for new ones to be released.

ShanaGalen February 17, 2012 at 12:52 PM

Thank you, Seductive Musings, for having me back. It's so much fun to read all of your comments. We're all really just readers at heart.

librarypat February 17, 2012 at 5:29 PM

Great list. Many are on my wish list or TBR pile. I discovered Jennifer Blake's Masters At Arms series and Stella Cameron's Court Of Angels series this year. We were going to New Orleans and I always try to read books set in the area we are visiting. Blake's series was historical romance and Stella's paranormal. I enjoyed them both very much.
I read the GiIVE ME A TEXAS OUTLAW and FIVE ME A TEXAS RANGER anthologies last year and BE MY TEXAS VALENTINE anthology this month. These are historical romances written by Jodi Thomas, Linda Broday, Phyliss Miranda, and DeWanna Pace. A fun light read.

I have read over 100 books this past year and enjoyed many of them. I don't keep records like you do, so can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I'll haver to start keeping records.
