Guest Author & Giveaway: Jaci Burton featuring Taking a Shot (updated)

Tuesday, March 13

Not too long ago I announced my favorite romances from 2011, and Jaci Burton's Changing the Game was my number one favorite of all of the books that I read last year.  I had some serious mad love for both the hero and heroine and their love story in that book!  Needless to say, the newest book in the series that was released last week, Taking a Shot, was one of my most anticipated reads for 2012...and the cover....move over Jed Hill, because this cover is beyond words smokin' !!

Jaci Burton is my special guest today to share a bit about Taking a Shot, as well as a few tidbits about the upcoming books in the series, not to mention a very special excerpt where the heroine tries (and fails) to deny the combustible chemistry between herself and the hero.  Why would she want to try and do that?  Read on and find out.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

*******************************************

Welcome back to Seductive Musings Jaci!  I was a big fan of the Wild Riders series, but I have to say that I think I might love your Play by Play series just a bit more.  In fact Changing the Game was my absolute favorite romance read of 2011.  What can I say I have some mad love for romance heroes that are professional athletes :)

Thanks so much for having me back as a guest on your blog! I’m so thrilled to be here again. And I love that you love my Play-by-Play series. It’s been such a fun series to write, so I’m always thrilled to hear from anyone who loves reading it as much as I’ve loved writing it.

What is it about sports heroes that are so compellingly seductive to your muse?

Strength, stamina, charisma and charm, there are so many characteristics that I find so interesting about sports heroes. There’s an endless well to draw upon, including my own vivid imagination, of course. Mix that with the reality of sports and I’m having such fun writing this series.

Your newest novel, Taking a Shot is the third book in your Play by Play series.  For someone who hasn’t read them yet can you tell us a little bit about the books in this series, how many there might be, and how they are all connected?

The books are centered on the Riley family, two sons and one daughter, all enmeshed in the world of sports. Mick Riley, the hero of The Perfect Play, is a professional football player. His brother Gavin, the hero of Changing the Game, plays baseball, and their younger sister Jenna, heroine of Taking A Shot, runs the family sports bar. The upcoming fourth book, Playing to Win, will feature a Riley cousin, Cole, who also plays football, and the fifth book, Thrown By A Curve, will be about Cole’s sister, Alicia. So far I’ve focused all these books on the Riley’s. I’m hoping there will be more books after these. And if there are, I have no idea who’ll they’ll be about. ;-)

In Changing the Game, the hero Gavin, cooks for his leading lady Elizabeth. (a fantastic salmon dish!) A part of the story that I loved, because a man who can cook...now that is seductive!  If you had to write a recipe for your new book, Taking a Shot,  to describe the elements you like to include to have the perfect blend of ingredients for a great love story what would it be?

It would have to be a spicy pasta dish because Jenna and Ty’s relationship is very spicy. Maybe a pesto chicken with some hot chiles. Flavorful, but with just a little bite to it.

Tell us more about your hero, Ty Anderson.  What do you think will make readers, much like his heroine Jenna, fall in love with him despite his being a professional athlete, which Jenna’s refused to even date in the past ? And can you tell us a little bit about their story in Taking a Shot?

Oh, you’re all going to love Ty. He’s focused and driven, devoted to his career, but he knows how to relax and have a good time. And when he sets his sights on Jenna, nothing will stop him, including her objections that he plays sports, which makes him off limits. To Ty, that’s just not a reasonable objection, and he knows her half-hearted attempts to push him away are weak. He feels the chemistry between them and he knows she does, too, so he wants to prove to her that there’s something combustible between them. Their story is fun, filled with sports and romance and chock full of emotion. Jenna is obstinate and yet wickedly fun and just a little bit afraid to follow her dreams, but with Ty’s help, she might just be able to have it all. I hope you all love Taking A Shot.

What's your favorite scene or moment from Taking a Shot, and why? Can you describe it (or provide an excerpt) for us without giving too much away?  Come on, kiss and tell :)

There’s a hot scene on the ice rink that I think you’re going to love….

What are five fun facts about Jenna, Ty or Taking a Shot in general, that readers would love to know?
  • Research fact: If you’re sitting in the front row of a hockey game and the players are shoved into the glass right in front of you, it can really scare the crap out of you.
  • Research fact: Also, if you’re sitting in the front row of a hockey game, it’s really cold down there because of the ice. Wear warm shoes and thick socks. And order a lot of hot chocolate or coffee—not beer. Brrrrrr…
  • Research fact: Tattoos like Jenna has on her back can be extremely painful to get, and really do take more than one session to finish up. Often the tattoo artist will do the outline first, then color it in later.
  • True fact: I cannot ice skate. At all. Can barely even stand upright on skates. I did no ice skating research for this book. ;-)
  • Secret: Ty really was jealous of all those guys Jenna dated.
Finally, I would like to make an official petition for a Play by Play Rugby star hero...seriously, have you seen The Gods of Football calendars?  That's all the Muse anyone would need!  How about a novella...anything?   It’s practically the perfect blend of both American football and soccer.  Should I send you my Gods of Football calendar for inspiration & research?  After all of the lovely cover postcards you’ve send out to readers for the Play by Play series, it’s the least I could do ;)

Well, I’ve heard that’s an awesome sport, and one I know nothing about. I’d have to do a considerable amount of research…..

If you want to score, you have to get in the game...
The last thing Jenna Riley needs is more sports in her life. While her brothers are off being athletic superstars, she's stuck running the family's sports bar, whether she likes it or not. Then in walks pro hockey stud Tyler Anderson. As much as Jenna would like to go to the boards with him, she's vowed to never fall for a jock—even one as hot as Ty.

Ty, intrigued by the beautiful bar owner, becomes a regular. He senses that Jenna wants to do something more with her life. And as he gains her trust, the passion between them grows, as does Ty's insistence that Jenna should start living for herself. With his encouragement, Jenna starts to believe it, too...

But first, Jenna has to figure out what she wants, what she needs, who she loves, and if she has the passion and pride to take a shot at having it all—including Ty...

I'm with you, Kathleen--I've had Jaci on my list for a few years now, but haven't yet read any of her books! But my goal for the year is to read at least one of them (though I know I'll want to read them all!) before the year's over! :)

Great interview, I really can't wait to read this series!

Enjoy,

I can't wait to meet Ty! I fell in love with Mick, and not too sure anyone can match him. But I am willing to read every book you write just to see if they can =)

I concur about needing a rugby star. Or at least soccer :)

I haven't started this series yet and that will all change now. I get to read them back to back. :) Really Hot covers Jaci. One of my favorite lines from the web site excerpt is "Uh-oh. Her body was pinging like a Geiger counter and Ty was radioactive. The closer he got, the hotter she became. She took a step back. “I don’t want you.” I love when couples try to fight off what they claim isn't there. :)GFC name is Lucky47.
Thanks for this opportunity.

Thanks for the awesome interview! I haven't read any of Jaci's books but I've read such glowing reviews all over! I'm not much a sports fan so I was a bit leery of reading sports themed books but it sounds like Jaci can suck anyone into her world! Plus, her books have been featured on numerous blogs for their *hawt* covers ;)

(please don't enter me into the contest... some one else deserves to enjoy this book, I just wanted to show some comment love b/c I read this post on Tuesday and got too busy to comment :( )

Great interview. Taking a Shot sounds awesome. I love the cover. My favorite line from the excerpt is: "She tried not to ogle, but Ty had a great butt."

Congrats to Jaci on the new release. My favorite part of the excerpt is “Pool makes me thirsty, thanks. And no, I don’t own this place, but your parents do and they like me.”

Leni March 15, 2012 at 11:34 PM

Favorite line is:
He was panty-dropping good looking.

And loved the part where Jenna said she had a date and Ty knew she wasn't telling the truth and said it was a booty call.

Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it.
