Fun Friday: The Man Chest, The Almost Kiss, or The Dress?

Friday, April 20

Yesterday I revealed some new book covers that I designed, but today I'd like to talk about some covers for some upcoming releases.  All are STUNNING for one reason or another.  I have book cover envy when I look at them :)

For the past couple of years now "beautiful dress" covers have been all the rage, then there is the always popular romantic couple with an "almost kiss", or seductive gaze, and then we have what seems to be a newer trend....the man solo covers, almost always with a little (or a lot) of chest showing.

My questions to you are:
  • which type of cover do you prefer...the man chest, the almost kiss, or the dress? and why? (excluding the Paul Marron factor, LOL)
  • does it matter to you what sub-genre of romance has a certain type of cover?  For instance, does "the dress" cover work for you as a contemporary romance (maybe that would be all about the shoes, LOL)?  In Urban Fantasy "the dress" equivalent are "the leather pants".

It depends on the back blurb which cover works best for me...Books like SWEET ENEMY, the dress. Not enough caffeine to think of other examples right now. Just my 2 cents.

If it's a great model, the man chest, but it's closely followed by the almost kiss.

I like them all, its nice to have variety. And each cover sort of sets a feeling for the book, if the story focuses on the hero I like to have a cover like Paul's, if its an equal sharing hero/heroine lots of relationship angst I like the almost kiss, or if its about the heroine finding herself/breaking out of a mold she was put in the dress works.

Ivy & Lexi,

I find it interesting that both of you like a cover based on it's representation of the blurb or the story behind it. That you like it more or less depending on how it represents the story.

For me, it's the cover that catches my eye, regardless of the story behind it, that will get me to learn more about it. Then again, I have a thing for covers, LOL.

Anne,

I think I'm with you on this one. I like that more historical romances are featuring the hero on the cover, but give me a good "almost kiss"...and sigh, love that too!

I like them all if they're well done and not "cheesy", I like that there is some variety otherwise they would all be boring :)

I like all of the covers you described as long as they are well done. Don't forget the clutch. Love that one too. A good cover will make me pick up a book, give the book a good looking over and read the blurb. What really upsets me is when the cover doesn't reflect the story or the H/h are completely off from the description.

I find that I tend to buy books that feature actual people on them. No scenery, animated, cartoons, etc. Who wants to look at a cover of a boring house - not me. Especially when it's romance!

I love the almost kiss. The dresses are gorgeous too. Historical romance 100%!

The cover will always draw me in first. Then I go on and read the back blurb. I do like a variety but with a cover featuring the likes of Paul Marron or Jimmy Thomas, I'm there. :)Lila DiPasqua's Undone is absolutely gorgeous though. And how about Jaci Burton's Play By Play series ?

I like the dress covers best. The "almost kiss/gaze" cover is a close second.

It works for most sub-genre, although with urban fantasy, the challenging glare/look seems to work best.

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
