Giveaway: No Longer a Gentleman & The Rake by Mary Jo Putney

Wednesday, April 18

So, we have a little change in plans for today.  Originally author Lila DiPasqua was scheduled to be my guest today, but due to unforeseen circumstances we've had to reschedule.  I'll let you know when I have a new date.  In the meantime I have something equally tempting :)

Historical Romance author Mary Jo Putney has two newly released books out within weeks of each other.  No Longer a Gentleman, the fourth book in her Lost Lords series, which releases on April 24th, and a re-released older book, RITA award winning novel, The Rake, which came out March 27th.

To celebrate, BookTrib and Surrounding Flowers is giving away three months of Romantic Indulgence  (books & the most lovely flowers).  Who wouldn't want that?  To enter that giveaway to win you can click on the banner to the right, or click here and follow the instructions.

But that's not all!  They also offered to giveaway a print copy of each of Ms. Putney's new books, No Longer a Gentleman, and The Rake to followers of Seductive Musings, so I've decided to select two different winners who will each receive one book. That is indeed a Romantic Indulgence!  Here's a little bit about the books you can win:

Grey Sommers, Lord Wyndham, never met a predicament he couldn’t charm his way out of. Then a tryst with a government official’s wife during a bit of casual espionage in France condemns him a decade in a dungeon, leaving him a shadow of his former self. Yet his greatest challenge may be the enigmatic spy sent to free his body—the only woman who might heal his soul.

Half English and half French, Cassie Fox lost everything in the chaos of revolution, leaving only a determination to help destroy Napoleon’s empire through her perilous calling. Rescuing Grey is merely one more mission.  She hadn’t counted on a man with the stark beauty of a ravaged angel, whose desperate courage and vulnerability touch her frozen heart as no one ever has.  With Grey, she can become the passionate woman she has long denied.  But a spy and a lord are divided by an impassable gulf even if they manage to survive one last, terrifying mission….

The Rake

Known as “the despair of the Davenports,” Reginald Davenport lived a reckless, rakish life while waiting for his hated uncle to die and leave Reggie an earldom.  Then the rightful heir claims the title and property and offers Reggie one last chance: Strickland, the estate where he was born and the site of his greatest joys and sorrows. Reggie returns to Strickland, resolving to build a healthier, more honorable life—if he can.

The Reformer

Young Alys Weston fled her home in despair, vowing never to trust another man.  Over the years, she’s built a good life with a foster family and a position as steward of Strickland.  She uses her skills to help her people, and her initials to convince the elderly earl who owned the state that she’s male.

Then the new owner appears in all his dangerous masculinity and threatens everything Alys holds dear.  Good resolutions crumble when two passionate, complicated people are drawn together despite their best judgment.  Can love lead to redemption and trust?   Or is it too late?

I think an alcoholic rake would be a very compelling story as he battled his demons. I follow on GFC.

The tortured alcoholic rake is one of my favorite types of rake. Dark, broody and withdrawn, and losing themselves in liquor. It’s those very layers that need to be peeled away slowly and expose what he is trying to conceal. Who wouldn't love to be the woman to heal him?

I am going to say the vulnearble spy, spies have at air of easy seduction about them. They have to be able to be many things and one of those things is solitary. So when a woman or man can break through the walls and get to the heart of the there is a good love story.

Thanks for passing along the fun! I haven't tried a book by Mary Jo yet.

Thanks for a great giveaway! I love Ms. Putney! I recently discovered her and I've been moving through her backlist. My favs so far have been the Bride trilogy. I think I read all three in like 4-5 days and I was ever so thankful for my Kindle cuz as soon as I finished one, I could immediately get the next :)

I like the vulnerable spy... the one who gave all to king and country and is trying to figure out his/her new place in life.

Thanks again for the giveaway!

I would choose vulnerable spy. It would be an interesting story.

I enjoy both really. Depending on the story and the Author. But do enjoy reading about those hidden vulnerabilities that would cause the Rake to become an Alcoholic. Peeling the layers away would be an interesting story.

Vulnerable spy is my choice but I do know some recovering alcoholics so that may color my view of alcoholic rakes.

I like the NO LONGER A GENTLEMAN cover a bit better - is that Steve Kuchinsky and Serene Aandahl? And that looks like Laura Williams on THE RAKE.

I'd prefer a vulnerable spy because I think I might be able to help. With an alcoholic, there isn't much you can do to help, they have to help themselves. I have read other books by Ms. Putney but I can't remember a favorite hero, I just remember that I've enjoyed the books I've read.

I'm thinking spy. Rakes are not my favorite type of hero (I do love them, but not my favorite!) and I'd have to really trust the author to try and make it through a book with an alcoholic hero! Also depends on how severe the addiction is too...that makes a difference to me. I love the sweet, gentle romantic heroes, and I've read quiet a few spy books with heroes like that. So my first instinct says spy!

I've only recently discovered Mary Jo and love her work, so I'm anxious to read these novels!

I would prefer the vulnerable spy. Alcoholism is a hard thing to deal with and beat. It is never really gone and can overshadow your life forever. The spy trade can also be hard to get out of, but I think it is more of a problem now than it was in the Regency era.

I have read many of her books, but off hand can't think of a favorite.

I have not read any of her stories yet but both sound great. While the alcoholic could be very entertaining I would probably prefer the spy. The vulnerable spy sounds like a story that could have lots of twists and turns and keep my interest quite well.
