Summary from the publisher:

London, 1822

Impoverished Julian Parker returns to London with one goal: marry an heiress. He'll do whatever it takes, even if it means denying his desire for men. After all, with a fortune comes happiness and social acceptance—which have eluded Julian his entire life.

The only things a vast fortune has brought Oscar Woodhaven are greedy relatives and loneliness. At twenty-one years of age, he has everything a man could possibly want—except someone to love him. When he meets devastatingly handsome Julian Parker, he believes his luck has turned.

Between Oscar's lavish gifts and their searing-hot nights, Julian is caught between what he thinks he needs and what his heart truly desires. But when a betrayal threatens to tear them apart, Julian discovers he'll do whatever it takes to convince Oscar the greatest fortune of all is love.

My Musings:

Julian is devious, snobbish and lazy yet very likeable in spite of that.  I think what keeps him so likeable is that he isn’t malicious at all.  He’s doing the best he can with what he has, a few connections and a handsome face.  The strange part is that it actually took me a while to catch on to his bad qualities because he was so likeable.   They were front and center right from the beginning but I overlooked them, not something I normally do.

Oscar is probably the most loving and generous man in the history of romance books.  He has a simple and childlike need to be loved.  Reading this you might think he comes off as being pathetic, he isn’t, it’s more that he has a naivete which is endearing.

Both Oscar and Julian are alone and lonely.  They’re trying to make their own path in life.  They recognize that in the other one and quickly become friends, the attraction and romance between them is secondary to their friendship.  The romance itself is filled with uncertainty and both men fear rejection from the other.  It’s almost bittersweet to watch it unfold because you know it isn’t going to work and they’re both going to end up hurt.  Eventually they realize they must learn to love and respect themselves before they can be what the other one needs.

One thing I’ve come to realize in this trilogy is that Ava March has an amazing ability to convey the giddiness, the butterflies in your stomach, and the electricity in the first touch feelings at the beginning of a romance.  I can almost feel it myself while reading her books, I love that!  It was nice to see Benjamin and Cavin, from book one, still together and in love.  I was curious about them and hoping I would get to see them again.  The books in this trilogy are short but never feel rushed or lacking in any way.  After reading these books, I will auto buy anything she does because I love her characters and her writing style so much.  What more can I say, another great book in the Brook Street Trilogy.

Great review Andrea. I have been wanting to read her work for a while now and just haven't gotten around to it. I don't know why I keep putting it off.

My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
