Friday Fun: Cover Artist in Training

Friday, May 4

A few weeks ago I shared with you my new venture, Seductive Designs.  Today, I'd like to share with you a budding cover artist in training.

My niece, whom I refer to as "Little Love", is with me during the day, and while I try not to do any blogging or design work when she is here, there have been a few times where I had to make an exception.

Being a curious 5 year old she likes to look over my shoulder and loves to ask questions about what I'm doing.  I try explain it to her in terms that she can understand about what I'm doing and how it all works.  One day a while back, when I was working on the computer, she asked if she could have paper because she wanted to do some art too.  I got it for her, then she asked for markers, then scissors...and being the tape lover that she is she knew right where to go find that when she wanted it.

We were both sitting at the kitchen table, so it's not like I wasn't "aware" of what she was doing, but I hadn't looked at it either.  When she was done she brought this to me, and said, "...look what I made, I made a cover for my book too!"

She pointed out all of the things I had explained to her...like a couple in love (obviously she loves historical romance too, but her heroine has pink hair because pink is a princess color), cutting and pasting an image onto another background (she cut them out of a coloring book and used tape to put them on the green since she likes tape better than paste glue), using a pretty scrolly font (notice the curlicues on the "S, "F" and "E"), then of course a sun because they are happy ;)   Isn't that just about the cutest thing you've ever seen!  I know I'm biased, and I can't help it, LOL.

She was so proud of herself and I of course had to agree! While I know she pays attention to everything I do, to see her actually adapt that to things she can do....I was amazed.  I will always treasure that moment.  Next year she will be in school all day, and while I will love all the free time it gives me, I'm also a little bit sad that our time together will be limited...and before you know it she'll be all grown up and I'll be too "uncool" to hang out with...*sobs*.

Just a bit of fun for this Friday :)  What about you, do you have any treasured moments you'd like to share?

Hope you all have a great weekend!

p.s. If you haven't already read the posts by Jessica Clare and Lauren Dane you still have time to check them out and enter the giveaways.

It was thanksgiving, my neice was 6 (nor 29) and we were going around the table telling what we were thankful for. She was telling us of a boy in her class who was disabled who was in a foster home with his brother would soon be going back to their mother. Her hope was that he would find a friend to hold his hand during reading and movie time so that it would hang down by his side also that the kids would not make fun of him. Nit a dry eye at the table.

Hi Lori,
Thanks for sharing such a touching story. My heart goes out to any child in foster care for whatever reason got them there.

We had a garage sale a few weeks ago and always have comic books out for sale, and one little boy who was probably nine or ten came by and was telling us that he was a foster kid, but that he was going to be adopted by his foster family soon. I was so happy for him because he seemed like such a nice boy.

My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
