Guest Author & Giveaway: Tracy Sumner featuring the Seaswept Seduction Series

Thursday, May 17

There is just something about Southern Men, isn't there?  Maybe it's the swoon worthy Southern drawl, or the gentlemanly manners (at least how I like to imagine them).  I mean, they have a reputation for a reason, right?  So when I learned about the Seaswept series by Tracy Sumner I was intrigued for a variety of reasons, one of which was that the series revolved around three Southern brothers, and that they were historical romances.  You don't find too many historical romances set in the South.

Tracy Sumner is my guest today, to share with us why the South is the perfect setting for her romances.  Enjoy!

When I was asked to guest post at Seductive Musings, the question posed to me was why I chose the South, specifically the Outer Banks/NC, as my setting for the Seaswept/Tides series. This answer is, in part, an easy one.  I’m a native South Carolinian and grew up on the coast of South Carolina. Now, why I chose the Outer Banks…I dated someone in graduate school who was a marine biologist, and he told me about this little town in NC that he worked in. Beaufort, NC. I visited and started researching, and found out that it was the location of the second marine laboratory in the US. This was very intriguing to me. And as a writer, I tend to have very strong connections for my characters with their professions. They are usually very passionately devoted to their careers, in so much as they could be at that time. So, marine biologist Noah Garrett was born!

Noah is my favorite of all the characters I have written. He is the ultimate sexy geek. Intelligent and passionate about, well, everything! But what I loved most about writing about the Garrett brothers, is the connection between the men, the love and angst, how they strive to show their emotions for each other and still be men.  Noah left the family for a bit of time and his coming home was such a special event for me to write about, his feelings and how he learns to forgive and, well, grow up.

Zachariah is the eldest brother…and the responsibility he feels for his brothers is really what makes him such an enticing character.  And Caleb…Caleb is actually the most emotional of the Garrett’s. And his story, Tides of Desire, is still in the cooker (due late this summer). Stephen King says that writers return to the same themes over and over again, and one of mine is certainly the bond between men. I just seem to find it fascinating!

Happy reading!

He left all he loved behind…

Will he be able to return and win her heart?

Elle Beaumont has learned life’s lessons the hard way–by foolishly exposing her youthful heart to love, only to have it broken when her true love fled Pilot Island, North Carolina. Now Noah Garrett is back, rekindling dreams she’d given up for lost, and turning her world upside down. Elle’s girlish yearning for him has become something more powerful than she’d ever imagined.

A man dedicated to science and rational judgment, Noah rejects all notions of romance…until the girl who used to cling to him like a shadow begins haunting his every thought. But even as he struggles to resist Elle’s sensuous beauty and the wildfire attraction erupting between them, Noah cannot deny that their passion is as irresistible and endless as the tides of love.

She is his greatest temptation.
He is her forbidden desire.
A battle of wills leads to love.

Spirited Savannah Conner is passionately committed to stamping out social injustice. Yet when she arrives in the seaside town of Pilot Isle, North Carolina, ready to take up a new cause, she quickly finds herself on the outs with the town constable. Zachariah Garrett is the most arrogant, infuriating, maddeningly attractive man it’s ever been her misfortune to meet. And suddenly, Savannah is fighting a whole new battle – this one against her own yearning for a man who is impossible to resist.

Ever since his wife’s death two years ago, Zachariah Garrett has dedicated his life to keeping the peace. So when he sees the pretty newcomer atop a wobbly wooden crate stirring up the crowd, he doesn’t hesistate to haul her off to jail. But Savannah Connor isn’t any ordinary law-breaker. She’s a beguiling beauty with the power to awaken emotions he thought he’s never feel again, and the tenderness to help him forget his fears…and risk his heart once more.

I think a mistake a lot of writers make is writing about a place that they are not familiar with. You can write anything, but you must know your location.

I really like your interview , I enjoyed the excerpts. I liked your "swoon worthy" comment. I love that felling you get when you see someone that us truly that handsome that he takes your breath away. I love that line. I've not read any of your books but I'll be changing that soon.

Hi Tracy!
My question is : do you always visit the places you write about in your books?
I'll follow your tour, so see you soon!

Tracy Sumner May 17, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Hey, guys! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Kanya: So far, I have visited the settings I've written about. Well, mostly. :) Because the Tides/Seaswept series is Beaufort, NC (again, partially, the rest my imagination) and the Southern Heat series upstate SC, which I am very familiar with as well. The next set are also Southern set -- small town. So, yes.

But I plan to release a Victorian, London-set "light" paranormal in 2013 that will, of course, come from much research but no actual visit. Though I have visited London. But not in 1840!

Thanks for the great post, blurbs and excerpts. This series sounds amazing. Can't wait to read it to learn more about Noah, Zachariah, and Caleb.

I enjoyed the post very much. Do you put your own experience into your books (like you've dated a marine biologist before). I love the Garrett brothers and would love to read their stories. Thanks for the giveaway.

I'm getting forward to meeting and getting to know the Garrett brothers, Noah, Zach, and Caleb. It's interesting how such historical names are also very popular right now. Many biblical names have ebbs and flows but these 3 seem to be quite fashionable right now and I'm sure they were also in the time period in which your books are set. Did you do research to see if they were popular names during that time?

Yes, I researched names. :) And in the south, very popular, much due to the biblical nature. But I loved the names -- and am not sure how I came up with them. Research first -- list of names, etc.

Thanks for all the warm comments. Happy reading!

I loved the excerpts on both books. The covers look beautiful and make me want to go to the beach.
