Summary from the publisher:

Unexpected Desire...

It's been ten years since clean-cut, sexy-as-hell police officer Todd Keenan had a white-hot fling with Erin Brown, the provocative, wild rocker chick next door. Their power exchange in the bedroom got under his skin. But love wasn't in the cards just yet...

Now, life has thrown the pair back together. But picking up where they left off is tough, in light of a painful event from Erin's past. As Todd struggles to earn her trust, their relationship takes an unexpected and exciting turn when Todd's best friend, Ben, ends up in their bed--and all three are quite satisfied in this relationship without a name. As the passion they share transforms Erin, will it be enough to help her face the evil she thought she had left behind?

My Musings:

Laid Bare begins with a glimpse into the past.  The first four chapters cover the brief relationship Todd and Erin had 10 years ago.  As I read about the earlier relationship I started to make some assumptions about the book as a whole.  I saw Todd and Erin as interesting characters and thought the rest of the book would be a pretty average erotic romance filled with hot sex and enough of a plot to keep it interesting, but nothing terribly memorable overall.  Once I got into the present day part of the book I realized how wrong my assumption had been.

This book is surprisingly deep and emotional.  It deals with issues like the break up of a relationship after the violent death of a child and domestic abuse in another relationship.  It has a large and diverse group of characters which make it a well rounded and complex story.  Todd, Erin and Ben are the focus, but the glimpses into the lives of their friends and family built on the main story and give depth to the main characters.

I normally like to give a breakdown of each main character and their appealing characteristics but I’m having trouble with the three in this book.  Erin is an amazing woman and I really admire her.  I love how she refuses to conform and chooses to be true to herself.  She knows exactly who she is and what she wants.  Todd and Ben aren’t as clear in my mind.  I like both of them but I don’t feel a strong connection with them.

The relationship of Todd, Erin and Ben is extremely hot.  They have love, passion and tons of steamy sex.  This wasn’t my first book by Lauren Dane so I was prepared for that level of heat and had pre-warned my husband.  By the way, my husband would like to send a personal thank you to the author :)  I enjoyed this one, I’ll definitely be reading about the rest of the Brown siblings.

Overall: 3.5
Sensuality level: 4
(menage relationship, lots of explicit sex and light BDSM)

I've read this book loved it and the other 3 in the Brown Siblings series. I think Lauren is a fabulous author. I've enjoyed each of her books I've read. I would also recommend the Chase Brothers series.
