Guest Author & Giveaway: KC Klein featuring Texas Wide Open

Thursday, November 15

Secrets.  Generally I'm against them, because they usually involve something bad.  In which case the secret becomes a burden. So not my thing.  But I guess some secrets can be a secret crush.  Those can be quite delicious :)  I don't like surprises, so I can't think of any other good kinds of secrets.  You'd think I could come up with more, but I haven't, so  I think it's best to leave that up to the professionals, like KC Klein:)

Author KC Klein in my guest today to share some not so secret secrets about her life as a writer, and reveals some secrets about her new contemporary romance, Texas Wide Open, which appears to have lots of steamy secrets to impart.    Enjoy!

The Secret Life Of A Writer

First, I wanted to say thank you to Seductive Musing for helping me celebrate (Whoo Hoo!) the release of the first book in the Texas Fever series, TEXAS WIDE OPEN which will be out on November 15th.

I am probably the most un-secretive person out there, so I am constantly on the lookout for everyone else’s little skeletons to cannibalize.

Secrets and writers is an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one. Really, nothing is sacred to a writer—or at least not to me. My husband’s jokes, co-workers’ names, embarrassing family stories, and my best friend’s therapy sessions have all been sacrificed on the altar of me trying to write a good book.

Yes, nothing is secret in my life, mostly because my life consists of hours huddled over my desk or in my bed pounding away on my laptop, in yesterday’s yoga pants and leopard print slippers. Not really much of an earth-shattering reveal.

But I think most people like the idea of secrets—at least in their fiction they do. Books are riddled with secret babies, secret weddings, secret lovers, and not to mention secret yearnings (my favorite kind). I mean, every romance novel has a secret of some kind and my book TEXAS WIDE OPEN is no exception. There are secret addictions, secret promises, and a secret fiancée…oops I gave too much away, but you catch my drift.

As a writer my life is pretty much an open book, but I do come with a warning: Everything you say or do may be used against you in my next book :)

Tell me a secret (just a little one) in the comments below and you just might win a e-copy of TEXAS WIDE OPEN. (But be very careful, if it is really juicy you may find it in the next book in my series.)

Katie Harris loved growing up on a ranch. She had her horse, the beautiful Texas prairie, and Cole Logan, the cowboy next door. But there are a lot of secrets hidden under a Texas sky…

Katie always knew she’d marry Cole one day—until he broke her dreams and her heart. But now that Katie’s father is sick, she’s back home, older, wiser and nowhere near the love-sick fool she once was.

Cole knows Katie doesn’t want anything to do with him. But after so many years, he can’t pretend she’s no more than a neighbor. Not when thinking about her cherry lip gloss and hell-for-leather passion is keeping him up all night. Holding his ground was hard enough when she was seventeen. Now that she’s her own woman, Cole’s heart doesn’t stand a chance…

Enjoy the special excerpt below:

Katie watched as Cole slowly turned, and at the sight of his bare chest, smooth and ripped with muscle, she locked her knees to keep upright. Instead of his inviting smile, there was a hardness she rarely saw that contrasted with the desire in his eyes.

Cole stood and stared. The silence between them crackled as if a whole conversation could be said without words.

Her breathing quickened as her nipples contracted into small, tight buds, sensitive to the brush of the cotton across them. She refused to hide her body’s reaction even as a flush of heat rushed to her cheeks. She’d been waiting all of her life for this moment. She was tired of hiding. She was ready. Unashamed, she gazed in his eyes and let the wealth of her feelings pour into her face.

Cole was no coward—he returned stare for stare—but she could see his jaw flex and knew he was pissed. She’d pushed him hard, but this was where the women separated themselves from the girls.

“I’m not a child any longer.” She took a step closer.

“And I told you, if you wear that shirt again, I’ll burn it,” he growled.

But Cole would have to do more than display a little anger to scare her. Before she lost courage, Katie crossed her arms and pulled.

She threw her shirt in his face, along with her challenge. “Go ahead and do it.”

Thanks KC for being our guest and congrats on the release of Texas Wide Open today!  And I wholeheartedly agree with KC.  I like secrets in fiction, but not in real life, LOL.  I can't wait to see if/when Cole takes Katie up on her challenge :)  They say that everything is bigger in Texas so I have to wonder if the romance is hotter too?

If you'd like to learn more about KC and the books she writes you can find her at her website, blog, Facebook, and Twitter.

I'm a very private person, so I definitely have (and keep) secrets. Speaking of one that probably can't get me in trouble now... I was an advisor to incoming first-years at university and for that we had to return to campus early. One year, there was a concert I really wanted to go to back home that was on the day I should've returned to campus, so I totally lied to the head of the advising programme and said I had to remain at home that extra day to deal with student visa issues so I could go to the concert. :-D

Thanks for an awesome post and congrats to KC on the release! Ummm... to avoid my mother in law, I told her I had to work... which was believable since I work a lot!

Sounds like a great book! I have a funny secret, I was always getting bugged about not being able to bake so when I made some squares and they were a huge hit everyone wanted the recipe. Only problem was they were from a package! I didn't want to admit that so I made up a recipe from te ingredient list, lol

Congrats on the new release. Can't wait to read it.
I told my sister that I took her kids to the library to do a project for school, but instead, we went to the movies and the mall and had a great time. The kids had finished the project the night before but their mom didn't know that.

My secret is that I should be working instead of reading this post on the internet.

My secret is that I kind of resent my son for taking over my spare room as a game room, but don't tell him. :D

Oh my goodness, these are all great secrets. Ok I've got one to tell. Once I wanted a bedroom in my house painted, but my husband was too cheap to get it done. So my mom and I decided to tell him the painters would only charge $50 when really it was $100, and my mom would pay the rest.
Yeah, well the truth came out because a few weeks later I mentioned something about it being $100 to paint a room and that was the end of that. :)

So glad everyone commented and entered to win a copy of the book. Thanks so much for stopping by. :)

I don't tell secrets, because then they are not secrets anymore.

I try not to let people tell me secrets because occasionally keeping a secret requires a person to tell a little lie, and unfortunately, I'm a horrible liar.

Na November 16, 2012 at 6:01 PM

I'm pretty private but don't have any juicy secrets to share. My not so hidden secret is I love romance stories. They always make me happy, well sometimes sad but in the end I'm happy!
