Guest Author & Giveaway: Maggie Robinson featuring Lord Gray's List and Lords of Passion

Wednesday, November 7

I sometimes wonder how women managed to make a respectable living.  I mean, I would think there could only be so many laundresses, seamstresses and governesses assuming that you had the talent and training for each profession.   All I can say is that I'm glad I have the choices and options that I do to support myself.  But what if I lived in the Regency period, what would I have done if I was not of a mind to marry and had an ailing father to take care of?  I would hope that I would have had the courage to be as enterprising as Maggie Robinson's most recent Heroine in Lord Gray's List, Evangeline Ramsey, but she's pretty gutsy & brazen!  I think I would have had to stick with the governess route, which isn't nearly as exciting :).

Maggie Robinson is my special guest today to share her with us two of her new releases, Lord Gray's List and Lords of Passion, as well as some of her favorite type of romance couples.  Enjoy!

Thank you so much for having me back to muse! I have two books out this month, both featuring “Lords” in the title. Now, Darius in “Not Quite a Courtesan” in Lords of Passion is not actually a lord. He’s a dealer in naughty antiquities and is about as seductive as they come—at least his heroine Prudence Thorne thinks so. This anthology with Virginia Henley and Kate Pearce is a mass-market re-issue of a book originally published as a trade paperback in 2010, and it was fun for me to revisit these characters. Pru starts off chilly, but by the time Darius is done with her, she’s on fire!

And speaking of fire, Evangeline Ramsey, the heroine of Lord Gray’s List, scorches and skewers her hero on a weekly basis on the front page of her newspaper. She and Ben were youthful lovers ten years ago, but in the time since, Ben has just not grown up. It grieves Evie to think he’s wasting his life. Thinking to shame him into respectability, she never expects him to buy the paper out from under her---and never expects to work side-by-side (and front-to-front, as the Publishers Weekly review says) with him. One thing definitely leads to another.

Kirkus says: “Lord Gray’s List, the first in Robinson’s new series The London List, is a sexy Regency charmer, with unique, intriguing characters and the refreshingly original backdrop of the List. The romance is sensual and conflicted, with tight sexual tension and snappy, vivid dialogue. Subplots add hints of dangerous intrigue and offer a host of well-developed, engaging secondary characters. Notably, Evie’s penchant for dressing in men’s clothing and passing herself off as the male editor of the London List leads to some amusing—if slightly outlandish—Victor/Victoria situations.

A charming, fun Regency romp that combines an innovative, compelling plot with characters that jump off the page and a hot, captivating romance that will tug at heartstrings.”

Looking at both releases, I see similarities in my themes---the charming, care-for-nothing rake and the virtuous, managing, possibly prudish woman. This is one of my favorite kinds of couple. She whips him into shape, and he loosens her up. Everybody wins!

What’s your favorite kind of couple? Governess and brooding dad (Jane Eyre, Tiffany Clare’s The Secret Desires of a Governess, my own Master of Sin)? Sophisticated man about town and sharp-tongued spinster (Pride and Prejudice)? Courtesan and honorable gentleman (Courtney Milan’s Unclaimed and several Anna Campbell books)? Older hero and inexperienced virgin (These Old Shades)? Or you pick! I’ll give away a copy of Lords of Passion to one commenter and Lord Gray’s List to another.

From duchesses to chamber maids, everybody’s reading it. Each Tuesday, The London List appears, filled with gossip and scandal, offering job postings and matches for the lovelorn–and most enticing of all, telling the tales and selling the wares a more modest publication wouldn’t touch.

The creation of Evangeline Ramsey, the London List saved her and her ailing father from destitution. But the paper has given Evie more than financial relief. As its publisher, she lives as a man, dressed in masculine garb, free to pursue and report whatever she likes–especially the latest disgraces besmirching Lord Benton Gray. It’s only fair she hang his dirty laundry, given that it was his youthful ardor that put her off marriage for good.

Lord Gray–Ben–isn’t about to stand by while all of London laughs at his peccadilloes week after week. But once he discovers that the publisher is none other than pretty Evie Ramsey with her curls lopped short, his worries turn to desires–and not a one of them fit to print.

Thanks Maggie for being my guest today!  I've already had the pleasure of reading Lord Gray's List and it's been a while since I've enjoyed the dialogue between a Hero and a Heroine more than I did in this story.  They are equally matched in wits, words, and passion :)  And I honestly don't know that I could pick a favorite type of couple, so I guess it's a good thing that I can't enter to win because it saves me from the dilemma of picking one ;)

If you'd like to learn more about Maggie Robinson and the books she writes under that pen name as well as her alter ego Margaret Rowe, you can find her at her website, Facebook, Twitter, and her blog.

I like all kinds of couples but one of my favorites is the bluestocking and the rake.

I like it when an alpha male butts heads with an equally alpha female...especially a lady who is also a bluestocking! Causes great fireworks!

I read the Lords of Passion anthology awhile back and loved Maggie's story. I haven't read Lord Gray's List yet, but it is on my BTB list.

Thanks for the giveaway

Thanks for the fun post and congrats on the newest release!

I really don't have fav type of couple. I love them all! As long as the couple have great chemistry and compliment each other, that's all I'm looking for! Thanks for the great giveaway!

I love all types of couples as long as there is great chemistry between them. My absolute favorite are reunited couples. I feel like there is a lot of chemistry and sparks between those kinds of couples. Oh and couples that start off hating each other are always fun to read.

My favorite couple are the 'enemies' in contemporary romance and paranormal. The couple who hate each other or the 'hunter vs. demon'. Thanks for a great giveaway!

I like the couples that have no intention of being a couple, lol. Makes it all the better when they fall for each other. Thx for the giveaway.

My favorite kind of couple is the rake and the intelligent spinster, that's always such fun. :D

it may sound like a cop out, but it's true all the same -- I don't really have a fave couple type. I enjoy reading about them all & mixing things up. :)

jmcgaugh November 7, 2012 at 11:57 PM

Gosh, I loved These Old Shades when I was a teenager. I don't know that I have a favorite type of couple; all different types work for me. I do like my heroes to be tormented ones, however, but that can work for all the different types of heroes. BTW, I've already won a copy of Lord Gray's List; if I win that, please pass it on to the next person! I don't have Lords of Passion, so I'd be happy to win that.

I think I love them all, but the sophisticated man about town and sharp-tongued spinster would just edge the others out. Love a woman with wit.

I love all types of couples, especially when the couples was enemies first.

Joanne November 8, 2012 at 3:38 PM

As long as they have great chemistry, I don't have a favorite couple.
