Excerpt & Giveaway: Allison Brennan's "Vacation Interrupted" in Love is Murder

Friday, June 29

Do you like anthologies?  I LOVE them!  It's often how I find new authors that I love as well as ones that I already read.  So when I saw that Allison Brennan, Lori Armstrong, and Sherrilyn Kenyon were in Love is Murder along with twenty seven other romantic suspense authors I was intrigued, dare I say "heart-poundingly" so? LOL.

LOVE IS MURDER HEART-POUNDING STORIES OF ROMANTIC SUSPENSE

Prepare for heart-racing suspense in LOVE IS MURDER edited by New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown, this original collection features 30 of the hottest bestselling authors and new voices writing nerve-racking romantic suspense today.

Bodyguards, vigilantes, stalkers, serial killers, women (and men!) in jeopardy, cops, thieves, P.I.s, killers—these all-new stories will keep you thrilled and chilled late into the night.

Go on vacation with Allison Brennan’s Lucy Kincaid, where she saves a man from drowning, only to discover he is in far greater danger on land. Meet Roxanne St. Claire’s “bullet catcher”—bodyguard Donovan Rush—who may have met his match in the sexually charged “Diamond Drop.” Debut author William Simon shows us what happens when the granddaughter of the president of the United States is kidnapped. Enjoy this exclusive excerpt from "Vacation Interrupted" by Allison Brennan in Love is Murder...

“No dead bodies, no psychopaths, no one trying to kill us.” Sean Rogan leaned back on the blanket spread out on the semi-secluded beach. “Just you and me, princess.” He took her hand and closed his eyes.

In five days, Lucy was to retort at Quantico to start her twenty-week FBI training. She’d suggested a few weeks ago that she and Sean find a couple days to go away—alone. They’d tried twice since they first started seeing each other six months ago, but each time their vacation plans were ruined by criminal activity. Because they were both so busy—Lucy working at the regional FBI office and Sean at his security company, RCK East—Lucy didn’t think they’d have the opportunity.

Allison Brennan is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling and award-winning author of eighteen romantic thrillers and numerous short stories. RT Book Reviews calls Allison “a master of suspense” and her books “haunting,” “mesmerizing,” “pulse-pounding” and “emotionally complex.” Lee Child called the first Lucy Kincaid book “a world-class nail-biter,” and Lisa Gardner says, “Brennan knows how to deliver.”

Allison lives on two acres outside Sacramento, California, with her husband Dan, their five children and assorted animals. She’s often said she has no life outside of writing and kids—though she takes her research seriously by role-playing in SWAT training exercises, practicing at the gun range, and hanging out at the morgue. The fourth book in the Lucy Kincaid series, Silenced, was released by Minotaur/St. Martin’s Press on April 24, 2012 and will be followed by Stalked in the fall. Find her online at www.allisonbrennan.com.

Guest Author & Giveaway: N.J. Walters featuring Legacy Found

Thursday, June 28

When I decided to feature authors that had book covers featuring our Muse, Jason Baca,  this week I was really excited when I saw that he was on the cover of one of author N.J. Walters' books.  I've seen her books around, read some great reviews for many of her series books, but hadn't actually picked one up before.  Why?  I don't really have a good reason.  I always meant to get around to it.

After learning more about her books in preparing for Ms. Walters to be a guest at Seductive Musings I pretty much decided that this is an author that I've really been missing out on.  And that I need to change that fact.  Pronto.

N.J. Walters is my special guest today to share with us a book from her popular Legacy series, Legacy Found.  Enjoy!

 ~~~***~~
Welcome to Seductive Musings NJ! For you, what makes a romance novel a great love story and what makes writing emotional and sensual romances so compellingly seductive to your muse?
Thank you so much. I’m thrilled to be here at Seductive Musings!
In my opinion, a great love story is one where the hero and heroine come together after overcoming obstacles,  either physical or emotional or both. They’re different people at the end of the story then they were at the beginning, and their coming together has made them stronger, better people. And I personally have to like the hero and heroine. The hero can be dark and brooding, but never unnecessarily cruel. The heroine can’t be a whiner or I just get annoyed.
And as for what makes writing emotional and sensual romances compelling to me…well, I write what I love. I’m a HEA (Happily Ever After) kinda gal. I can’t imagine writing any other kind of story. It’s all about the emotional journey of the characters. And, of course, what’s more emotional than sharing intimacy and sex with another person. It’s all a part of the characters’ stories. What’s wonderful about romance is there are so many interesting sub-genres to explore both as a writer and a reader, and I love them all.
Legacy Found is the third book in your Legacy series. Can you tell us a little bit about the books in this series, how many there are, and how they are all connected?
The Legacy series began when I decided I wanted to write a werewolf series. I’m a big fan of paranormal romance, and had written some vampire and shape shifter books, but I’d never done a werewolf series. There are currently five books available in eBook, and the sixth one in the series, Damek’s Redemption, will be released by Samhain Publishing in October 2012.
It all began  with Alexandra’s Legacy when I had a vision of a twenty-two year old woman who works in her father’s garage in a not so great neighborhood in Chicago. Alexandra Riley has no idea just how much her life is going to change when a tall, dark stranger appears in her father’s garage and completely blows up her idea of what her life is. She discovers her father has lied to her all her life—he is really a pureblood werewolf and she is a half-breed. Now she is in danger from paranormal bounty hunters who want to kill her. But there are also certain factions of pureblood werewolves who want her dead, not wanting their bloodlines diluted by her half-breed blood. Then there are the werewolves who want to mate with her because female werewolves are scarce. All of them are now searching for her and she must depend on the stranger, Joshua Striker, to keep her safe as they make their way to the protection of her father’s former pack. And if that wasn’t enough, she’s about to go into heat!
The other books in the series flow from the first one. (The Legacy series in order: Alexandra’s Legacy, Isaiah’s Haven, Legacy Found, Quinn’s Quest, Finding Chrissten and, coming in October 2012, Damek’s Redemption, which is actually about a vampire and not a werewolf.)
Tell us about your hero, James Riley.  What do you think will make readers, much like his heroine Shelley, fall in love with him? And can you tell us a little bit about their story in Legacy Found?
I knew from the minute I started writing Alexandra’s Legacy that I would have to tell James’s story. I actually started to do it in that book, but quickly realized that James would need a book of his own. James LeVeau Riley is Alexandra’s Father, a werewolf in the prime of his life who left his pack after the death of his  mate. After traveling around for decades, he ended up fathering a child with a human woman who left him to raise his daughter, Alexandra, on his own. To protect his daughter, he stayed away from his former pack and all other werewolves. James is very loyal and protective and has made it his mission in life to raise his daughter and keep her safe, even if that eventually means letting her go when she finds love. I fell in love with James from the beginning and knew he deserved his own happy ending, but I also knew it wouldn’t come easy and it would take a very special woman.
In Legacy Found, James discovers Shelley working at a roadside diner, living among humans without a pack nearby. He immediately feels protective of her and convinces her to come with him and allow him to help her uncover her past and to learn about herself and what it means to be a werewolf. Along the way, her gentle strength and amazing courage attract him until he cannot resist the lure of this remarkable female werewolf.
Now that we know a little bit about James, can you tell us about your heroine, Shelley? What makes her the perfect woman for the gentle yet commanding alpha shifter?  What are some of the qualities that attracts him to her and makes her irresistibly tempting?
Shelley’s story is one of pain, suffering and courage. Captured by paranormal bounty hunters when she is only a teenager, Shelley has been subjected to such trauma she no longer remembers her past. She’s spent the past thirty-five years imprisoned by the man who took her. But when the opportunity arises, Shelley kills her captor and escapes, knowing his friends will hunt for her and kill her if they find her. Shelley knows she’s a werewolf, but remembers nothing about her heritage or family.
Shelley is a mixture of fragility and strength that draws James to her when he discovers her working in a roadside diner. He immediately knows she is one of his kind but quickly realizes she has no idea he’s a werewolf too. And once she does know, she is frightened of him. His protective instincts all surge to the fore and he cannot fight them and his growing attraction to her. He convinces her to go with him after she is fired from her job and the more he learns about her, the more he comes to understand just how courageous and amazing she is.
What's your favorite scene or moment from Legacy Found, and why? Can you describe it (or provide a short excerpt) for us without giving too much away?
One of my favorite moments in Legacy Found is when Shelley is leaving James. She has so many issues to work out and wants to stand on her own two feet. James doesn’t want her to leave the pack, but he lets her go, even though it’s one of the hardest things he’s ever done. It shows the strength of both characters. James is willing to go through the pain of letting Shelley go because it’s what she wants and needs, and Shelley is willing to leave in order to make herself stronger so she might be able to one day commit to a permanent relationship with him.
James wanted to drive his fist through the wall. He needed to feel the sting of pain to distract him from the total destruction of his heart. Shelley was leaving him.
He knew it wasn’t logical to feel that way. Shelley was doing what she felt she needed to do. Still, he felt betrayed.
After spending the last week in her bed, he’d thought he’d gotten through to her, thought she’d understood how he felt about her.
All the hair on his body bristled as the wolf inside him howled for release. He clamped his hands around the edge of the countertop, not surprised to see claws instead of fingers. He was close.
His mate was leaving him and he didn’t think he’d survive.
But he would because this was what she needed. He needed to set her free if he was ever going to have a chance of claiming her as his mate. If he kept her here, forced her to stay, she’d never forgive him. And he’d be as bad as those bastard bounty hunters.
No, as hard as it was, he was going to have to let her go.
His heart felt as though a gigantic boulder was lying on it. She hadn’t even left and already he was bereft.
Taking a deep breath, he straightened and rolled his shoulders. He could do this. For Shelley. For himself.
What are five fun facts about this book (or series), that readers would love to know?
  1. James’s story was originally supposed to be part of Alexandra’s Legacy, but I decided he needed his own story. So I had to remove all the sections that pertained to James and Shelley from Alexandra’s Legacy and expand Alexandra and Joshua’s story.
  2. I’d originally planned to write books for the Wolf Creek Pack in North Carolina. Then I met the Haven Pack in Chicago in Isaiah’s Haven and, other than James’s book, the rest of the series revolved around them instead.
  3. When I originally wrote about Quinn Lawton, I had no idea he would grow into such a huge character with not only a book for him, but also one for his twin sister Chrissten.
  4. I hesitated to start Legacy Found with a scene where the heroine murders someone, but I knew it had to be true to Shelley, to show readers her desperation and her courage. I trusted they would love her as much as I did.
  5. Damek was always meant to be a secondary character, after all he’s a vampire in a werewolf series. But he wouldn’t fade into the shadows and demanded his own book. I had so many readers ask about him that Damek finally got his own book. You will see the Haven pack in this book, but it’s all about the vampire!
We’ve talked a lot about Legacy Found today, a book that has been out for a while.  Can you tell us about some of your upcoming releases, or new projects that we can look forward to?
I’d love to tell you more about my upcoming projects! As I said, Damek’s Redemption will be releasing from Samhain Publishing in October. After that, I’m taking a break from this series and will have a new paranormal/shape shifter quartet releasing from Samhain Publishing starting in January 2013 with Night of the Tiger.
Touch of Topaz, the seventh book in the Awakening Desires series, just released from Ellora’s Cave. This is a stand alone, contemporary/erotic romance, but readers of the series will recognize the heroine (Topaz Jewel) from an earlier book (Jackson’s Jewel). I’m currently working on her sister Sapphire’s story.
Finally, just for fun…if you could write the “fortune” in a fortune cookie what would it be?
Reach for your dreams!
She outran her memories. She couldn’t outrun her past.
Legacy, Book 3
Shelley is a killer. Never mind that her “crime” freed her from thirty-five years of brutal captivity—the bounty hunters on her trail don’t care. For the first time in her life, she is on her own, free to put the past behind her and explore what it means to be a werewolf.
James Riley is dead tired. After a week untangling legal and financial affairs his brother’s death left behind, he’s feeling every ounce of his new responsibility as Wolf Creek pack alpha. He’s not too tired, though, to notice his sexy waitress is a werewolf—one that strangely doesn’t recognize him as one of her own kind.
After his questions rattle her composure and get her fired, Shelley figures the least James can do is drive her to the next town, but he wants more. He wants to take her home. And despite her fear, something inside her is irresistibly drawn to his commanding yet gentle presence.
James is willing to give Shelley all the time she needs to embrace her heritage, her sexuality, and eventually his love. But her past will not be denied...and her secrets demand a price paid in blood.
Product Warnings:
This book contains a hunky werewolf, a woman with a secret past, a lost family found, nasty bounty hunters, and lots of steamy hot sex!
Thanks N.J. for being my guest today!  While I don't read a lot of paranormal romance, if it involves a werewolf shifter....I'm so there :)  I find shifter alpha heroes completely irresistible...call it animal magnetism if you will, LOL. I guess one of the benefits of discovering the series five books into it is that I don't have to wait for each new book, LOL.  I think I've really missed out on this author up to this point.
If you'd like to learn more about N.J. Walters and the books she writes you can find her at her website www.njwalters.com, her blog, Facebook , and her Yahoo group.
Guest Author & Giveaway: Jean Hart Stewart featuring Fiery Pursuit
Wednesday, June 27
Do you believe in love in first sight?  I can't say that I do, but I do believe in attraction at first sight, and I could even go so far as to say love at first meeting :)  But when you enter the world of my guest author today not only is love at first sight real, but is a forever kind of love.  That sounds magical doesn't it?
Jean Hart Stewart is my special guest today to share with us her newest novel, Fiery Pursuit, featuring an Elvin hero who encompasses all of those things, and much much more.  Enjoy!
~~~***~~~

Welcome to Seductive Musings Jean! For you, what makes a romance novel a great love story and what makes writing erotic romances with touches of magic so compellingly seductive to your muse?

Wow, you start off your interviews with a bang, don’t you?  A romance novel is a great story if there is conflict that sometimes seems insurmountable, and a love that is true and believable. If it’s not lasting love the romance doesn’t work with me. As to the magic, I loved King Arthur, Merlin and all those wonderfully chivalrous people from when I was very young and still do.  Although my historicals are strictly factual, and I researched for weeks to make sure the book is accurate, I love letting my imagination embellish my stories of druids, mages and elves.

Your newest novel, Fiery Pursuit, is the first book in your new Passionate Pursuits series. Can you tell us a little bit about the books in this series, how many there might be, and how they will all be connected?

Fiery Pursuit is the first book in a series that I hope will be eight books, like my other series. I used the same formula as for my druids and mages, starting the first book around 1890 to allow time for the children to grow and have children, and to include their friends. These people are all very real to me.

Heroes make or break a romance for me.  Tell us all about Lars!  What do you think will make readers, much like his heroine Sophie, fall in love with him despite the circumstances they find themselves in ? And can you tell us a little bit about their story in Fiery Pursuit?

Ooh, I LOVE Lars. He’s a powerful Elf, and like all the elves in my series, falls in love at first sight and forever.  He’s tall, strong, with shining hair to his shoulders to make his pointed ears less noticeable.  Unless he wants them to be and then  he sweeps back his hair. Sophie can’t quite believe her good luck, and besides she can’t afford to give him anything but physical love. She’s got her father’s murder to avenge.  Lars is a gentleman and tries to tamp down their physical love until she agrees to marry him, but Sophie is as anxious for his body as he is for hers. Lars means to stay away from sexual encounters until she agrees to marry him, but he does slip up now and then.  He’s a very sexy man, and I think you’ll love him.

Behind every great Hero is a great heroine :)  Tell us about your heroine, Sophie, and what makes her the perfect woman for Lars?  And will her attraction to him be enough to overcome the revenge that is in her heart?

Sophie’s got this thing about revenging her father’s murder and I wanted to slap her a couple of times. She loves Lars deeply, but is one stubborn woman. Still, her sense of honor makes her perfect for Lars.

What's your favorite scene or moment from Fiery Pursuit, and why? Can you describe it (or provide a short excerpt) for us without giving too much away?

Sorry, I love this book and I’ve  got no favorites except maybe the ending, and I’m not going to give an excerpt on that! I’ll give you one now you might like.

“Will you kiss me, Lars?”

She reached up and drew his head down, linking her hands behind his neck. His shining hair fell around his face and she smiled as she caught a glimpse of his beloved ears.

“Please, Lars.”

With a groan he took her lips with a hot kiss that melted her defenses. Raw sexual longing stabbed down her body, ending at that magical point between her legs that he alone could assuage. She rose on tip-toe, rubbing her lower body against his, a carnal enticement that elicited another groan from him. He grabbed her hips, grinding into her with a rock-hard erection, sending waves of pleasurable lust and longing through her.

“Lars, please come to me now.” She tilted her lower body to feel all of his male power. She adored that stiff cock and the fact she could so easily make him harden. He kissed her deeply for a long time, until her underwear dripped moisture and she writhed her hips against his. Taking a deep breath she pulled back a little, smiling at him in anticipation.

“Will you marry me, Sophie?”

Not at all what she’d expected. How could he think of anything but carrying her to the nearest bed. Or chair. Or wherever she could take that huge cock into her pulsing body.

Marry him? Oh no. I want to so much. But I cannot ruin his life.

She fingered his hair, winding a lock of it around one finger. “Can we make love now and talk later? I do so crave your magnificent body.”

Kissing his lips she felt their softness begin to stiffen. He stepped back enough that she couldn’t feel his cock pressing into her stomach. He’d been so huge and hard. How could he pull away? She could almost climax just thinking about he’d pound into her.

To her dismay he took her shoulders and set her away from him.

“No, Sophie, we cannot. I desperately want to marry you and make love for the rest of our lives. I will spend my life making sure you’re happy. But I will not bed you again unless we are officially affianced and our wedding date set.”

Most authors have a synopsis, outline or idea of what the story they are about to write will be.  However, sometimes during the writing process your “Muse” might speak to you and lead you in a different or unplanned direction.  What surprised or changed the most from your original intent of Fiery Pursuit?

That I allowed the villain to live. You’ll have to read it to find out why I let such a bastard survive.

Can you tell us about some of your upcoming releases, or new projects that we can look forward to?

Book Two in  Passionate Pursuits is called Stormy Pursuit and is now being edited.  Should be out soon. Book Three, Dark Pursuit is on my editor’s desk.  Book Four,  Dangerous Pursuit is in process of being written, and I’m having a devil of a time with it. My characters just won’t behave the way I want them to. Oh, and the head honcho might change the titles, I never know, but it will have Pursuit in it. So I have a lot going on. Edits with Ellora’s Cave are extensive and thorough, which is why their published list is so good.

Finally, just for fun…if you could write the “fortune” in a fortune cookie what would it be?

Your future is ruled by your heart and your mind acting in concert.

When Lars uses his Elfin power to rescue Sophie from a slave market in Constantinople he knows instantly she is meant to be his mate. But the murderer of Sophie’s father still pursues her, and Lars must all his strength to try to save her. And convince Sophie he is what she wants.

The villain who sold her into slavery reappears and Lars needs all his Elfin strength. When his power mysteriously weakens, can Lars get it back? And will it be enough to save them both?

Guest Author & Giveaway: Lorelei James featuring Kissin' Tell

What do I say that I haven't said many many times before about my guest author today? She's completely awesome and writes some of the best romances...ever!  That pretty much sums it up and keeps it short and sweet :)

New York Times Bestselling author Lorelei James is my special guest today to share with us her newest Rough Riders novel, Kissin' Tell, which just so happens to have this week's Muse on the cover.   Is there such a thing as too much goodness?  I don't think so :))  Enjoy!

~~~***~~~
Welcome back to Seductive Musings Lorelei!
Thanks for having me back :)
You’re a fan favorite at Seductive Musings, and with good reason :)  Your newest addition to the Rough Riders series is Kissin’ Tell.  For someone who hasn’t been introduced to the McKay’s yet, can you tell us a little bit about the family, and where you see the series going from here?
That's always a hard question to answer, now that I'm 13 books into the series. The McKay's are Wyoming ranchers -- most of them anyway -- which makes them cowboys. Since they work the family ranch together, there is some tension, but at the end of the day, these guys always have each other's backs. They work hard, play hard, fall in love hard. I think one thing readers enjoy is that sneak peek into what previous characters have been up to since their happily ever after ended. And speaking of ending...the series will end with book 16.
Tell us about your hero,  Tell McKay.  What do you think will make readers, much like his heroine Georgia, fall in love with him this time around?  And can you tell us a little bit about their story in Kissin’ Tell?
Readers have seen snippets of him interacting with his brother Brandt (COWGIRLS DON'T CRY) and playing poker with his McKay cousins, and getting into it with his cousins Chase McKay and Ben McKay, but Tell is a bit of a mystery. And unlike other books in the series, I didn't have much of a lead up to his story as far as giving teases and snippets of who I planned to pair him with. His heroine, Georgia Hotchkiss, is a high school classmate Tell always had the hots for, but she was already taken. So ten years have passed, and Georgia is back in town, right before the class reunion. Tell is more than willing to prove to Georgia he's got the McKay mojo he lacked in high school. As far as falling in love with Tell...sigh. He's just such a good guy. Sounds simple, but I don't know how else to put it :)
What were some of your most challenging scenes to write for Kissin’ Tell, and why?
Hmm...Since both Georgia and Tell have lost a sibling, the scenes where they were talking about loss and what changes those deaths have had on their family dynamics and their lives were hard to write. But then I got to temper the story with lots of fun things, because Tell is a fun loving guy.
What are five fun & sexy facts about this book, or the characters in the book that readers would love to know?
  1. I considered having Tell play the ukelele just because that's a quirky thing he'd do - but changed my mind.
  2. I contacted two separate rodeo promotion companies for research for Georgia's job and one company provided the stock for the movie PURE COUNTRY 2 so the owner was very interesting to talk to.
  3. I've never been to my class reunion, by choice, but I love reading reunion stories and hadn't had the chance to write one yet.
  4. For some reason a lot of readers thought I was going to pair Tell with Doc Monroe, which was never a possibility.
  5. There are a LOT of appearances by various McKay family members in this book :)
Can you tell us about some of your upcoming releases, or new projects that we can look forward to?
I have book 4 in the Blacktop Cowboys series, ONE NIGHT RODEO, releasing on August 7th. In October, I'm in a follow up anthology to THREE'S COMPANY, entitled TWO TO TANGO, with Jayne Rylon and Jess Dee. And Rough Riders book 14, GONE COUNTRY will release in December.
For fans of the series, are their any characters that you hope to revisit again in a continuation of their story?
Like I mentioned above, there are a quite a few cameos by assorted family members and some surprises in KISSIN' TELL. Right now, I'm too swamped with getting contracted work finished to consider doing a snippet of previous characters' lives after their HEA - but never say never :) I did write a short story featuring Cam McKay in the GUNS AND ROSES Anthology, which was a challenge, but I really enjoyed writing it.
She once led him around by a string. Now he's the one holding the reins.
Rough Riders, Book 13
Georgia Hotchkiss swore wild horses couldn’t drag her back to Sundance, Wyoming. So it’s ironic she’s forced to take a rodeo PR job in her former hometown—right before her ten-year class reunion. The only thing worse than facing her cheating ex-husband and his pregnant wife? Showing up to the reunion without a date. Fate smiles on her when she runs into her former classmate and current cowboy hottie Tell McKay. With his infectious smile and fun-loving ways—not to mention his banging body—he’s the perfect solution to her problem.
Tell McKay had it so bad for Hot Lips Hotchkiss during high school that he let her run roughshod over him. But he is no longer that easily manipulated boy—these days he’s earned a reputation with the ladies that lives up to the McKay last name. He agrees to escort her to the reunion with one stipulation; that Georgia proves she has left behind the goody-goody cheerleader of the past—by sharing his bed.
Their sexual chemistry flashes so bright, they barely notice that the reunion has come and gone, and now they’re tangled up in another dreaded “R” word—relationship. But if Tell wants to get the girl this go-around, he’ll have to come up with a whole new set of knots to tie up her heartstrings.
Product Warnings
Contains a sweet talkin’ wild cowboy with a wagon load of crazy-hot sex fantasies and the mad bedroom skills to back up his claims.
Many many thanks Lorelei for taking the time to be our guest today!  I love me some McKays, and I can't wait to read Kissin' Tell :)  I just recently had a high school reunion of my own, which I also didn't attend, but now after reading a little bit about this book, it kind of makes me wonder what I might have missed out on, LOL.  Though realistically, someone like Tell probably didn't go to my high school :)
If you'd like to learn more about New York Times Bestselling author Lorelei James, one of my favorite authors (who always delivers), you can find her at her website, her blog, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, and her Yahoo group (which I will warn you now is quite active, but also a great and very supportive group).  And if you're not already a subscriber to her newsletter, then that's just a cryin' shame because you missed out on an exclusive excerpt from Kissin' Tell which you couldn't get anywhere else (believe me I tried, LOL).
Monday's Muse: Jason Aaron Baca
Monday, June 25
Today I have a really special treat for you all!  As you all know, every Monday I select a new Muse, one that catches my fancy that I can't wait to share with you, but this Monday not only do I have a great Muse to share with you, but I also have an interview with him as well!   How exciting is that!  It's a Musings first :)
In fact this week you'll see a lot of our Muse because he is on the cover of Kissin' Tell, Lorelei James' new Rough Riders book that releases this Tuesday, AND he also graces the cover of one of N.J. Walters novels, who will also be a guest here this week.  Please welcome our Muse, Mr. Jason Aaron Baca, to Seductive Musings!
~~~***~~~

Welcome to Seductive Musings Jason, and congrats on being our Muse of the week!  I'm the type of girl who likes to know something about the man behind the handsome face and buff body, so let's start with giving me five to ten words that you think best describe yourself, and why?

Ok I’ll give you 5 that best describe me -

Humble - Because I’ve been rejected MANY times in this business
Prosperous- Because of all the Tony Robbins books I’ve read
Confident - From all the covers I keep getting on
Creative - From not being satisfied with NO answers
Optimistic - Because when I’m pessimistic no one seems to really help me. Better to be this way.
How long have you been modeling for book covers, what is your favorite thing about it, your least favorite thing about it,  and what's the average day like when you're at a cover shoot?

There’s not a whole lot that I don’t like about the job. Maybe the only thing I dislike is when they crop my head off the cover. They’ve done that before and just don’t get it. I have been modeling for 16 yrs but modeling for the actual covers for 2.

An average day at a shoot would involve me waking early in the morning after a nice deep sleep and applying a mint oatmeal masque, then rinsing that off in the shower and then following that up with a variety of the different herbal scrubs. I make sure to moisturize after the shower so that I won’t have itchy or flaky skin. I want my skin to look smooth and youthful.

When I arrive at the shoot, there is usually someone there to do make up and hair, though I usually don’t need much fixing up. For the shoot itself, they’ll pair me up with a female who I’m normally just meeting the first time. We are usually given a few sample shots that they are looking to do. There is nothing better then visual aid for these shoots.

Once we get a vision of what they are after, we get into our pose and about 500-1000  photos are shot of that and similar poses.

Do you have a favorite cover that you've been on, or is there an image that you just love that you can't wait for someone to use for a book cover, and why?

Yes, “Stone Guardian” by Danielle Monsch

Have you read any of the romance books that you've graced the cover of, if so what did you think of it?

Believe it or not, Yes I have! I love some of these books. What creative authors they are!

Since this blog is all about romance, what does love mean to you?

That is a very sacred word, a word that should never be taken for granted by another person. It can be every imaginable emotion to me.

As women (the majority of my blog readers), I think it is inherent to our sex that we pretty much all have body issues...things that we like and things that we hate .  What is your favorite body part or feature on yourself, and why?  And since you often represent the "Hero" on the cover I can't help but ask what your favorite body part or feature is on a woman?

On me, I’d have to say my favorite body part on me is my arms. They grow nicely when I exercise unlike the rest of my body parts. My favorite body part on a woman is nicely pedicured toes. I like toe rings too on women :)

I think we can all appreciate all that you do to maintain the look we so admire, but what all goes into achieving the cover model look?

Great question. Well that look is that confident feeling that comes with time. When you get on these covers  it almost naturally does something to the mind. Ushers in that confidence that many don’t have or want. You kinda just know when you have it too, you just walk in a studio and the people around you only say positive things to you. Very gratifying.

Just so we know that you are human, and so the rest of us don't feel so bad, name at least one of your guilty pleasures.  You have to have at least one, right? LOL.

Yes of course I do...  My food pleasure is Reese’s Peanut butter cups. For music, its the old 80s dance band “Expose”

Do you have a website or other social media that fans can visit?

Sure, I have 2 actually. One is a stock site that I frequent, The Authors Red Room, the other is my modeling agency Halvorsen Model Management.

Now that we’ve grilled you, do you have any questions you’d like to ask us?

What are all of your favorite covers of me? I would love to know that answer!

You can check out some of the covers Jason has been on here.  One lucky Musings commenter will get an autographed modeling card from Jason, so that he can be your Muse for much longer than just a week :)

This week at Seductive Musings:
  • Tuesday:  A Musings favorite...Lorelei James will by my guest to celebrate the release of the 13th Rough Riders story, Kissin' Tell!  It's been a while since Ms. James has been here so it makes it doubly special since it also features our Muse on the cover of the book.  That's a whole lotta goodness right there :)
  • Wednesday:  Erotic Romance author Jean Hart Stewart will be my guest to share with us the first book in a new series, Fiery Pursuit, published by Ellora's Cave.  I hope you'll join me.
  • Thursday:  Author N.J. Walters will be my guest to talk about her romance books, including Legacy Found, which Jason Baca also graces the cover of :)
  • Friday:  Romantic Suspense author Allison Brennan will be my guest to share with us her short story in the amazing anthology Love Is Murder, which also just so happens to  include Lori Armstrong (aka Lorelei James).  Very exciting!
  • Tempting Trailer:  Last week I featured the book trailer for Defiant.  Did you all happen to catch the post @ Pamela Clare's blog last week, "A Day with Connor MacKinnon" ?  If you didn't I strongly urge you to check it out because it was all sorts of oh so good it's not even funny!  It's also the reason why Defiant is the book trailer of the week again, LOL.  Can't wait for the mini movie *squee*!
Also of Interest:
  • Author Mari Carr & Lexxie Couper are having a "misplaced" Scavenger Hunt where the grand prize is a Kindle!  You can read all about the details and the rules here or here. It ends on June 30th!
  • Bronwen Evans' Invitation to Romance Tour & Giveaway where she is giving away books and a $200 GC also ends on June 30th.
  • Author Pamela Clare is having a MacKinnon's Ranger's Reading Challenge to get ready for the upcoming release of Defiant (my most anticipated read of 2012). Yes, it does require repeating!

Finally, I'd like to congratulate all of the authors with new releases this week, especially Musings authors Gena Showalter, Katharine Ashe, Carrie Lofty, Elizabeth Hoyt, Donna Grant, Jill Shalvis,  & Lorelei James

Reviewers Wanted!

Thursday, June 21

Have you ever thought about reviewing the romance books that you read?

While I would love to say that it is as easy as just writing down your thoughts about a book, it does take a bit more work than that.  And I will be honest, sometimes it's not always fun.  Especially if you have to write a review for a low scoring book, or it's a book that you loved loved loved that you have a hard time finding just the right words to adequately express your new book obsession :)

Now that I've told you the bad, let me tell you the good!  FREE books!  And hopefully you'll also find at least a few new favorite authors you might not have read otherwise.  Then there is the interaction with other readers who have read the book, and either agree or disagree with your thoughts, or someone says that because of your review they are going to give a story a try.  That's pretty seductive, don't you think?  It's almost like an online book club of sorts.

I get emails daily from authors, publicists, publishers, assistants...asking if Seductive Musings would like to review a book or series, and most of the time I have to tell them that Musings just doesn't have the time, but thanking them for contacting me.  However,  I will say that I'm absolutely shameless in my pursuit of trying to obtain review copies of books for current Seductive Reviewers, LOL.

If you've ever contemplated it, and would like to give it a shot, contact me so I can give you the 411 :)

Review: Townie and the Twink by Daisy Harris

Wednesday, June 20

Title: Townie and the Twink*
Author: Daisy Harris
Series: Men of Holsum College #3
Genre: Contemporary M/M Romance
Publisher: Siren Publishing
Format: E-book
Date/Year:  June 11, 2012
Reviewed by: Andrea

*This book was provided to the reviewer by the author in exchange for an honest review

Summary from the publisher:

Insightful to a fault, Gabe Ashton knows Nick Flynn’s gay even if Nick doesn’t. And after seeing how the townie looks at his "buddy," Gabe knows Nick is in love with a guy who’ll never love him back. So Gabe invites Nick to campus parties and to hang out with new people. But soon their friendship turns physical, and Gabe wonders if he’s in just as much denial as Nick is.

Nick’s straight—or so he’s always assumed. But he can’t deny that the things he’s doing with Gabe are hot. More than that, he likes Gabe in a way he’s never liked anyone else. Well, anyone else except his high school friend, John.

The hardest thing to give up is a fantasy, and the hardest thing to face is the truth. But if Nick wants the man standing in front of him, he’ll have to give up the one he never had.

My Musings:

Daisy Harris is going down as one of my favorite authors of 2012.  She’s been writing for a while but I didn’t discover her until this year when I read the first book in the Men of Holsum College series.  I love her characters, the amount of emotion she manages to drag out of me and how genuine the romances feel.  She delivered exactly that once again in "Townie and the Twink".

Gabe has a superpower, after careful observation he can read people.  He’s been watching a classmate, Nick, for a while and thinks he has the guy figured out.   Gabe sees that Nick is lonely and in need of some friends on campus.  Gabe is a genuinely nice guy and makes it his mission to befriend Nick and make him feel welcome at school.

Nick recently transferred into Holsum College from the local community college.  Nick finds himself on the outside of two different worlds.  There is the world of his high school friends which he still sees but doesn’t really fit in with and then there is the entirely separate world of the students at Holsum College where he doesn’t know anybody.  He feels like he has been thrown a lifeline when Gabe approaches him and invites him to a campus party.

As their friendship forms they both start to feel a longing for something more.  Gabe is openly gay and recognizes his attraction and feelings for Nick quickly.  Nick has no idea what is going on.  He knows he likes Gabe a lot, he knows he likes when Gabe touches him but he’s not ready to accept that he might not be as straight as he thought.  There is also the problem of Nick’s infatuation with his high school friend John.  Gabe sees how Nick looks at John, knows he secretly loves him and it’s something he can’t compete with.  Gabe can’t force Nick to acknowledge his feeling for his friend but he can can certainly nudge him along on the path to figuring it out.  After that, it’s up to Nick to choose what the future holds for them.

There was so much I liked about these characters.  I thought Gabe’s use of his superpower was a lot of fun.  I liked that Nick and Gabe were two normal college guys.  They weren’t heroes or angels, just average guys trying to get by and have some fun while doing their best not to hurt anyone in the process.  I loved that they didn’t play games and respected each other and their friendship.  They always stayed true to their character.

Gabe and Nick have a great romance too.  It develops at the perfect pace and has just the right amount of angst to feel genuine.  It’s sweet but still has that raw, young love feel which makes it realistic rather than fluffy.  Every book in this series has been fun, sexy and sweet.

Ratings:

Overall: 4
Sensuality level: 4
(There is some rough sex role-playing but it’s entirely consensual.  It’s fun and works really well in the story.)
