Are you interested in sharing your thoughts about books that you've read? See me up there, that's me (well, not really me, but sometimes it's how I feel) contemplating how I can attempt to read and review all of the romances that I am tempted with on a regular basis.
How's a reader to know what books should be bought and placed at the top of a mountainous TBR? The answer: Reviews. Reviews and shared opinions from fellow readers that have similar tastes to your own.
Seductive Musings is looking for a few enthusiastic reviewers who love to read romance and join me in my romance addiction. The only necessary requirements are...
A passion for romance novels
A passion for sharing your thoughts
Expressing your unbiased and honest opinion...both the good and the bad
Basic grammar, but don't worry about spelling that's what spellcheck is for ;)
oh, and you should be over 18 years old
It doesn't matter if you have a blog of your own or not. If your style is the same as mine or not...just think of it as typing your thoughts to a friend instead of speaking to them about it. If you are interested please email me using the Contact Form.

Title: Ashes and Wine*
Author: Taryn Elliott
Series: n/a
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Format: E-book
Date/Year: June 2012

Summary from the publisher:
Before Tessa met Royal Andreas, her bookstore was on the verge of sinking. And before Tessa met Royal Andreas, she didn't mind being single. But Royal brings in business with monthly wine tastings featuring his family's signature vintages--and brings Tessa's heart to a standstill with intense gray eyes that look on her with nothing but cool indifference.
Yet one searing kiss between the stacks gives Tessa a glimpse of the passion smoldering beneath--and a secret pain further revealed when Royal fills in as the musician at a tasting event. Every note of Spanish guitar tells a story of family tragedy, loss, and ongoing suffering that's made Royal afraid to lean on anyone...even if he needs Tessa's sweet flavor more than the richest wine. Only her strength can save him when his world crumbles to ashes. But has Royal learned trust too late to claim Tessa as his own?
My Musings:
I have to warn you that I believe my opinion of this book will be out of the ordinary. A major part of this book deals with one of the main characters watching and waiting as his father slowly dies of cancer. I lived that a couple years ago and it’s not a subject I ever willingly read about. To make matters worse, the type of cancer as well as the main character’s age and family role are the same as my experience. It was too similar to my life and I checked out emotionally very early on just to get through the book.
Royal runs the family winery. Once a month he takes a break from the strain of his daily life at the winery by going to a local book store, As You Wish, and running a wine tasting. The bookstore is owned by the one woman Royal knows he is meant to be with. Unfortunately, being in a romantic relationship is impossible for him right now. Royal is the oldest child and it’s his responsibility to keep his brothers in line and the family winery running. He is also dealing with the strain of watching his father’s agonizingly slow decline from cancer.
Tessa is the owner of the bookstore. She and Royal have a history. They met a few years ago when she visited his winery. There was a lot of flirting and a definite connection for both of them but nothing became of it. Now she has to see him once a month. She approaches the monthly wine tasting with a mixture of expectation and dread. She’s still very interested in Royal and can’t wait to see him, but he always keeps his distance from her and it’s disappointing every month.
I liked Royal and Tessa, but I had trouble connecting with them. I think it was the dying father that stopped me from taking a vested interest in them. I say this because at one point Tessa goes to visit her friend Mercy. They spend the night drinking a bottle of tequila and drunk dialing Mercy’s moody and overbearing neighbor, Alaric. I suddenly got really into the story when Mercy and Alaric were part of it. I could see the spark between Alaric and Mercy and I wanted to stay with them and see where their relationship was heading.
Sadly, Tessa left the next morning and that’s the last I saw of Mercy and Alaric. I was once again left with Royal, Tessa, the dying father, and the family trying to deal with it. The father takes a sharp decline and is a major focus of the story for a while. Royal’s family is breaking down and fighting amongst themselves and Royal himself is barely holding together. It should be a very emotional part of the book, and I think most people would react to it, but I felt nothing. Royal and Tessa were also having lots of sex which I couldn’t even take an interest in because it was the deeply emotional, strong connection type of sex. I wasn’t feeling the connection or the emotion so it was just a bunch of words and body parts for me.
My complete lack of connection with the main characters made this just an OK book for me. It’s well written and my connection with the supporting characters, Alaric and Mercy, leads me to believe it was the subject matter I had a problem with rather than the book itself. Ashes and Wine is a book about support, love, loss and the intense emotions they bring with them. My lack of emotion made me miss out on the major aspects of the book. I’m sure my experience will not be a normal reaction and most readers will be deeply moved by it.

Summary from the publisher:
It had to be nuns.
Some vampires had a thing for B+. Some preferred redheads. Others preferred blondes.
For Jasper, it had to be nuns--and he's been regretting that since the day he bit Amabel de Woodville, almost two centuries ago.
She'd done something to him. Something that restored his conscience, pointed his moral compass straight north, and ended his career of seducing virgin nuns and killing as he pleased. But even worse--she'd gotten under his skin, and he hasn't forgotten the green-eyed witch who'd been immune to his charms.
When Amabel ends up in his office, still as young as the day they'd met and seeking a charity sponsor, Jasper has the chance he's ached for: to show her the pleasure that's haunted her dreams for decades. He's taken the virginity of a hundred nuns...but a vampire nun? That's new.
And Jasper has always enjoyed a challenge.
My Musings:
First off, this is a very quick read which is a shame because I really liked Amabel and Jasper. I would have loved to have more time with them.
Even as a human, Jasper was a lady’s man. After becoming a vampire with the power of enthrallment, no woman was safe. That was until he met a young nun named Amabel. You see, Jasper has a thing for nuns.
“Some men had alcohol. Some had narcotics. Women had chocolate, and occasionally shoes. Jasper’s weakness was nuns.”
He cannot resist them and normally the reverse is true as well . . . except for Amabel. For some reason, she can resist him and curses him before he bites her. And what a curse it is! Amabel’s blood gives Jasper a conscience which is a terrible inconvenience. Jasper liked being a vampire. He liked “doing” whatever or whomever he wanted without considering others. Amabel has taken all the fun out of being a vampire.
For 160 years, Jasper has been a vampire with a conscience. He no longer seduces women with his powers. He only kills the bad guys. It’s a terrible life. But what kind of life is Amabel leading all this time? She is still a chaste, moral young woman who happens to be a 160 year old vampire. She never bites anyone (pig blood . . . ewww) and has remained a virgin. So, of course, their paths have to cross.
As I said, I really enjoyed this book. The characters are likable and the dialogue is laugh-out-loud funny at times. The sex scenes are hot, but more intimate than explicit. My only disappointment is the short length. I really, really want to see more of Jasper.

We had a gorgeous weekend where I live! In fact it was the best we've had so far this summer. I did a little bit of reading, some work outside on Saturday, some design work...all in all it was fairly productive.
Apologies for not posting on Thursday and Friday like I had planned, but some things on the design front came up and were urgent so I needed to work on that in the limited amount of time that I had, which meant no extra time to prepare the blog posts. Busy is good I guess :) However, I do have a ton do do for the blog so even though there won't be any guests this week I have some great reviews to share with you that I think you will find enlightening.
I've also been toying with the idea of doing a "behind the scenes" blog post every month in case you were wondering about what all goes into running a blog. Is that something you are curious about? If so what are some topics that you would like to know about? And since it was pretty much unanimous Monday's Muse will continue...just with a link instead of a picture at the blog. One good thing is I guess the blog will be more work friendly, as least from a visual perspective, LOL. The second good thing...you'll be able to see unedited full size images (sometimes I had to make then fit in the width, so they were smaller)
So here it is, the new version of Monday's Muse, & he has a smokin' hot gaze. Enjoy!
This week at Seductive Musings:
Reviews, Reviews, Reviews (because there are so many). I'm not quite sure which ones yet, but this way it will give you something to look forward to...a daily romance surprise :)

Summary from the publisher:
Forget the sugar. Send her the spice.
Delta Heat, Book 2
Gus Taggert knows a setup when he sees one. The doughnut shop his police officer buddies have sent him to, Cornucopia, is too frilly. Too pink. Then the woman behind the counter serves up a mini-lesson in submission that leaves him ready and willing to obey her order to see her tonight at La Forge BDSM club.
The large, burly cop is exactly the kind of alpha guy that newly minted Domme Aislinn Darby has been dying to tie up and spank. Yet after she puts him through his paces, she finds herself eager to let him take control—something she’s never before enjoyed with a man.
Determined to find out once and for all if she has what it takes to control a scene, she orders him up for one more go. Only this time, she intends to ensure he remembers who’s in charge. She’s even willing to offer a little bribe: accept her dictates, and his reward is her—any way he wants her.
Except when it’s time for payback, it comes with several twists she never saw coming.
Product Warnings: When a male sub decides to turn the tables on his pretty Domme, he calls for backup from his best friends. Contains scenes with m/m/f, m/f/m, f/f, spanking, restraints, and an orgy of pleasure no woman can resist.

Enjoy this special excerpt selected just for Musings readers:
“There any cameras in this room?”
She gave a curt nod toward a far corner.
He didn’t look toward it. He didn’t give a damn who watched. But did she? “Mistress…Ash,” he pleaded, every muscle in his body alert and ready to act.
She shook her head. Closed her eyes. Then she glanced to the corner and signaled with a wave of her hand beneath her chin for their watchers to cut the feed.
“We alone?” he ground out.
“Completely,” she whispered, her eyes wide.
Was she feeling as desperate as he was? Gus swooped toward her, picked her up by the waist and laid her on the bench. “No more slap and tickle.”
She cupped the corners of his shoulders then glided her hands across his chest. “I’m still in charge,” she said, but without any force behind the words, like she was reassuring herself.
“Yes. You can decide whether you want me or not. But choose quick.”
She wrinkled her nose. “You’re a terrible sub.”
One side of his mouth curled up. “Not really into rules.”
“Funny, I don’t seem to mind a bit that you’re not.”
“Punish me for the lapse…later.”
Her mouth curved. “My pleasure.”
He bent and took her mouth, rubbing away the smile. Her hands framed his face. Fingers cupped his ears then bit into his lobes to hold him back.
He didn’t like the uncertainty causing her eyes to darken. “Need control?”
“I do.”
“I’ll give it. Always. Tell me what you want.”
Her chest rose and fell so swiftly, her breaths came in tiny gasps. “Undress me.”
My Musings:
Gus Taggert is a large police officer who likes to submit in his private life but only to the right woman and only up to a point. Aislinn Darby is a relatively new Domme at the La Forge BDSM club and she is still refining her persona. Her relationship with Gus confuses her because it doesn’t quite follow the rules that she expects and she feels more attraction for the contradictory sub than she is quite comfortable with.
An implied threat to Aislinn rouses the protective instincts in Gus, even as he puts his body and his ego into her hands. She is determined to test his boundaries by requiring that he submit to a wide variety of tests but he is willing to allow her to play as long as he is given equal time.
This is an extremely hot book that explores a few aspects of kink even as it follows a bit of a mystery. It continues the theme started with the author’s previous book in the series, “Five Ways to Sunday” and features sizzling cameos from some of the characters introduced in that spicy tale. This close-knit brotherhood of police officers work and play hard together in a very arousing fashion. I wasn’t sure that I liked all that Aislinn forced upon Gus because I can’t help but feel that it would alter the dynamics of the workplace but I have to admit that as usual, Ms Devlin has written a smoking hot tale. If you like a little kink in your erotica and enjoy tales with sexy alpha males unafraid to stretch their boundaries, and the women who benefit from unabashed attention from them, this is the book for you!

Over the weekend I had a few minutes to kill and decided to check my email and read one from a blogging colleague about a blog post that author Roni Loren had recently posted, so I went to her blog and read it. And it was a serious wake up call.
In the post Roni talked about how after posting her "Boyfriend of the Week", which was much like "Monday's Muse", she received an email from a photographer saying that she had infringed on his copyright by posting a picture that was his that she didn't pay for, and ask that she remove it from her site. Which she did, immediately. But he pursued it even further by suing her (or at least threatening too, I'm not how far it went legally) to be reimbursed for the use of the image. A fee which she said she couldn't afford. Long story short, she had to pay him the fee even though she removed it from her site. (you can read the full post and the comment here).
Because of what happened to Roni, I've decided to change the way Monday's Muse will work, and I have already started removing all of the Monday Muse's from the blog posts for two reasons: First I honestly had never thought about reusing photos found on other blogs as copyright infringement, and I should have considering the whole sensitivity there is in the book blogging community about e-book piracy. It's the same thing, I just never thought about it in those terms. Shame on me! The other reason....blogging is a hobby for me. It's not a money making venture, it was never intended to be, though I could sorely use the extra money. That being said, I also can't afford to be sued, nor can I afford to pay a high fee for usage of an image like that. So I can't continue Monday's Muse as I had in the past.
Some bloggers use Creative Commons images because you can use certain images for free as long as you credit the source and you don't violate their rights restrictions, which I would have no problem with. But after reading some of the over 200 comments on Roni's post I came across one from a commenter saying that he/she had used an image that was obtained with a creative commons license, but then the artist sold the image to a stock image provider, who then contacted the blogger stating he/she violated copyright laws....even though the image was sold after he/she used it. I don't want to have to worry about that possibility. Which is why I don't think Creative Commons images are the way I want to go.
So as of this Monday's Muse, I will no longer be including the picture of my Muse at Seductive Musings, but I can't really decide what to do going forward. My first option is to link to the image where I originally found it, but that would mean you would be going to another site and I don't know if you all would be comfortable with that. My second option would be to not have Monday's Muse at all anymore, but change it to Monday's Musings where I do what I have been doing all along...just without a Muse (sad face, I know). The third option would be to pay for the images which is something that I just can't afford right now, so I guess that means I really only have two options.
I'm truly sorry that I won't have a Monday's Muse on the blog anymore. It was always one of my most favorite features, and one of the most popular, not that that played a factor in my doing it. Should I keep it, but just have a link?
This week at Seductive Musings:
Tuesday: I'll have some long overdue winners to announce. Sorry I'm so late in doing this.
Wednesday: Author Delilah Devlin will be my guest to share with us her new menage erotic romance book, Fournicopia
Thursday: I will have some reviews for you.
Friday: Is up in the air right now. I have several design projects that I am currently working on so the blog may have to take a backseat breather while I try to finish those up, then again if I have time I may have something for you...who knows :)
Also of Interest:
Beth Kery is having a very huge BECAUSE YOU ARE MINE contest, in honor of her upcoming erotic romance serial novel. You can check it out here.
Finally, I'd like to congratulate all of the authors with new releases this week!

Have you heard the news? It seems that Outlander by Diana Gabaldon might actually see the light of day on the small screen! WOO HOO!!!!!!!
Movie rights, were sold many moons ago and fans of the book have been teased more than once that it would actually be made into a movie. I had misgivings about that, because I didn't think that a movie could really do the book(s) justice. How do you compact an epic book, with such a complex plot and emotions in under three hours? I didn't think it would be possible. And as much as what I wanted to see it on the big screen I also didn't want to be disappointed, so I was kinda glad that it hasn't ever happened.
Today, I finally had the opportunity to do a little blog hopping, and read a snippet at Dear Author that Outlander appears to be on it's way to become a cable show series via Sony Pictures TV, and I am absolutely 500% giddy with excitement about this! A series show is the only way they can try to bring one of my most beloved books to life....and to put it on a cable network like Showtime, HBO, or the like means that it will be no holds barred from the sex to the scenes at Culloden, not to mention Black Jack Randall (the villain)... then Claire almost being burned at the stake as a witch.....practically gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Jamie Fraser is my all time number one perfect romance hero. PERIOD. END OF STORY.
And if you haven't read the book(s) yet...I don't think we can be friends
anymore, LOL. Outlander is one of only a handful of books that I've read more
than once, and one of the books in the series, is the only book that I've ever threw across the room in outrage and frustration, while reading it. I've heard of people doing that, but I've never been as emotionally attached to the characters as I have been with this series to evoke that kind of reaction. The first few books in the series....FANTASTIC....the last two or three have only been so-so for me, but I just can't give them up because it's Jame and Claire!
So now it comes down to this...who is Jamie and who is Claire? Because I think this might actually happen. WOO HOO again!! Personally, I hope that they get two unknown actors that have no other associations to them, then the secondary characters can already be stars since the power that be will want that.
Who would you cast in your perfect Outlander TV series? The author, Diana Gabaldon, had an informal poll on Facebook earlier this year. I've shared the albums on the Seductive Musings Facebook page if you'd like to see the men and women she offered as options, and of the choices who I liked for each role. Feel free to leave links to your fav photos in the comments here so that we can all compare. I can't wait to see what you think! I also know that I will be adding a premium channel to my cable if & when it happens ;)
p.s. Dear Santa, I would love love love to have the 20th Anniversary edition of this book even though I already own like 4 copies of this book :) Hey, a girl can never have too much Jamie!
A Happy Friday indeed!

Summary from the publisher:
A man of action…
After helping to break up a Russian human trafficking ring as part of the CIA’s elite Black Opal team, Alexei Nikanova’s newest assignment is to rescue one of the stolen women and return her to her father. When he arrives in Dubai, he discovers his target is Sasha Zablosky—a woman he knows all too well, and who has haunted him ever since their one unforgettable night together. But he finds Sasha reluctant to leave her Sheik, the only true friend she’s ever known. Only Alexei can’t give her a choice.
A woman of deception…
With their yearning roused by intrigue, Alexei and Sasha can no longer resist and spend night after night in forbidden pleasure. Soon Alexei finds himself falling for her even as he battles a shadowy menace to protect her. But Sasha is no innocent. She has a past darker than she could ever admit or that Alexei could ever forgive. And it is about to explode into her life once more. Now, as the lies they tell themselves—and each other—pull them deeper into a perilous desire, what began as simple passion becomes a love certain to destroy them and end the lives of countless innocents.
My Musings:
My initial feeling about this book is that it is sad. Or, the storyline in itself is sad. A Black Opal operative, gains the trust of an already weary person, only to make them trust for the first time and then betray them again “for the greater good.” I’m not so sure that I think there is such thing, but this world isn’t black and white. It’s different shades of a certain "color" but that goes to another book that we will not mention :)
Anyhoo....
The story starts with Alexei, who is a member of the Black Opals, long ago hardened by his undercover life. He has only fallen in love once. A woman that he had to give up to the sex trade as mandated by his job. No way to contact her. No way to know if she would survive or die a woman that has witnessed unthinkable horrors and scared her so that she will never recover, as he has witnessed with other victims. Little does he know that he is about to get the shock of his life when he meets her again....
Sasha was once lured by Alexei on an undercover operation. She fell in love. Love and passion do not exist for her after his betrayal, and she feels hollow. She is sold to a Sheikh named Saeed with whom she forms a deep friendship. As proclaimed in the novel, Alexei “ fucked her, drugged her, sold her into slavery and killed her only friend”. However, she still loves him, has never been able to think of anything but his beautiful face since she spent one night with him. We have to suspend our belief that true love and unbridled passion erase all these deeds. Saeed, the Sheikh, has taken care of her and never made advances toward her until one night. When he must make a choice between his family’s continued safety and success, and hurting the one he has come to love (Sasha), he offers a solution….let Sasha have a night of pleasure. Familiarity swamps her when their guest gets too close and Sasha realizes who he is…and blows his cover wide open. The whole thing goes kaput and Saeed ends up indirectly paying for the love that Sasha and Alexei share, yet deny.
Sasha is a former engineer that deconstructs explosives in order to figure them out. Her father is a horrible (so we are told) Nobel prize winning hero who manipulates her into actions that result in many people being killed. She carries this shame like a heavy blanket. Sasha is a strong very capable woman. She is stoic and to a certain point just accepts what life has handed her, but she will not be run over, and will no longer be puppeteered by her father. He is not a gentle soul, and cares nothing that she is his child as we are led to believe. He wants to teach her a lesson. She runs away and ends up getting herself sold into slavery whereby she meets Alexei. She is a kick ass woman, very similar to the Heroine in “Stripped”. She has a couple of TSTL (to stupid to live) moments that I could have done without, but alas there wouldn’t be a story if that wasn’t the case. Heroine's always seem to get themselves in trouble, and you know what they say about good intentions. I wish she would have just expressed more emotion to Alexei. He was cold but he warmed up significantly and his love for her was obvious and consuming. I felt some depth with Alexei that I didn’t feel with Sasha.
Alexei is initially not that likeable of a character. I began to warm up to him, but he is so centered on his own self loathing that he just can’t bust out of it. Alexei thinks Sasha has been a pampered princess for the last couple of years. He knows nothing of her horrible past and the reasons she is trying to run away. And of course, she won’t confide in him until she is forced. He believes that every word coming from Sasha’s mouth is a lie. Alexei is alternately drawn and sickened by Sasha at times, and his inner conflict with his lust, hate and love became a little tiring.
Alexei redeems himself at the end and I am glad for that, as it rounds
out his character. Sasha’s character is a little bleak. I wanted her to
have a little more emotion towards Alexei, not just in the bedroom.
Without giving anything away, I didn’t understand the storyline with her
father so much. The whole thing was confusing to me. However, in these
types of suspense novels I often think about them much later, and more
pieces fall into place the more I continue to process it. There are a
lot of characters with the unusual
names (I sometimes a hard time keeping the characters straight) on
different sides here, and that is where the mystery sets in. I have
found that is true with a lot of romantic suspense novels though. Not
too unusual. As for other characters, I felt sorry for Saeed and his
situation. I REALLY liked Misha, and I am hoping the next book is about
him, as I will look forward to it.
The love scenes in Lie to Me are very, very, VERY hot. Graphic but not overkill, although they do last for a good many pages at the beginning of the book and I sometimes felt myself skimming. The hottest parts to me were not when they were “together” but when they had encounters in not so opportune areas, such as the back of a Volkswagen in a car chase. Also Alexei seems to have a “throbbing erection” throughout the entire novel. Now I know every woman wishes that a hot man couldn’t keep hold of his bodily functions, and want hot monkey love 12 times a day, but it’s a little overboard when Alexei can’t keep his balloon from inflating after the 13th time in a 24 hr period. I had to give a little eye roll. I was having Lora Leigh Deja Vu moments every 50 pages.
All in all I enjoyed Lie To Me. However, I enjoyed “Stripped”, the first
book in the Black Opal series, more than this new one. This is a bonafide Romantic Suspense, so if you don’t like a story with a lot sex, a lot of bad guys, and intricately woven plots, Lie to Me may not
be for you. I may have mentioned this in my review of “Stripped”, but I can’t help
but compare these books to some of Shannon McKenna’s works, and she is
one of my favorites.
Ratings:
Overall: 3.5 Stars. (I liked it, But I like Stripped more in comparison. I wanted more from Sasha. The suspense was really good, although a little confusing at times) Sensuality level: 4.75 Stars. (Very hot love scenes. There is some menage, and the scenes are done very well.)

I hear tales all of the time of the fierceness of the Viking warriors in history from a family member. How strong, brave and....well, fierce they were :) And I find that somewhat amusing since many of the Nordic societies are some of the most peace loving and happy citizens of the world today.
My guest today, author Mia Marlowe is here to share with us her new historical romance set in that world, but it's not your typical Viking warrior romance because the warrior is the one who has been conquered, not the other way around. Which made me wonder, can you still be an alpha hero and wear a slave collar? Enjoy!
~~~***~~~
An Alpha Hero in a Slave Collar
First, thanks for having me here today. I appreciate the chance to visit with your readers about my recent release, Lord of Fire and Ice. I love this story for lots of reason, not the least of which is the way I was able to stand a Viking romance trope on its head. There have been plenty of tales of a Viking warrior who takes the beautiful heroine as his captive. In Lord of Fire and Ice, my hero Brandr is the one wearing an iron slave collar while my heroine holds his leash.
The idea appealed to me on a couple of levels. For one thing, controlled strength is very sexy and even though my hero is placed in a weak position, he’s still an alpha. He gives his oath to obey his new mistress, but only so far as her commands do not diminish his honor. Brandr and Katla spar for control in their relationship from the first moment they meet.
Along with the iron collar that restricts his actions, Brandr bridles himself as well. He has a mystical gift that he uses only in extreme situations. He’s a fire mage who can conjure flames from thin air and control fire with a thought. But he’s purposed in his heart only to use his gift to protect his people, not to benefit himself.
It doesn’t take Brandr long to realize that while he can’t bend Katla to his will with force. He can only melt this ice princess with love. But Brandr isn’t one for flowery words. His love takes the form of protection with all that he is. So when he’s ordered to marry her, he surprises her with an unexpected declaration of devotion during their wedding that takes her breath away.
Here’s a snippet from that scene:
Brandr reached over his shoulder and pulled out a long blade from its baldric. The steel had been repeatedly folded and fired, forged in faraway Damascus. It shimmered in the dying sunlight, hammered into brilliance by a master of the craft. The waves of its creation left an undulating pattern on the blade, glittering like living flame.
He dropped to one knee before Katla, point of the sword buried in the smooth dirt, both hands on the ornate hilt.
“I give you the edge of my sword, the strength of my body, the breath my life,” Brandr said, his gaze glued on the tips of her slippers peeping from beneath her hem. “If you have need of any of them, they are yours for the asking. And even if you don’t ask, they are still yours. From this day forward, you are my wife. I’ll defend what’s mine as long as there is a beating heart in my body.”
He looked up at her, something unexpected in his eyes. She’d seen that mad glint in a man’s gaze only when there was a cache of treasure to be had.
By this time, Katla is more than ready to strike off the iron collar.
Relationships are always a delicate dance of power and acceptance. The thrall collar is merely the visible sign of who holds power at any given moment. Once the collar is gone, Brandr and Katla must learn to bond so deeply, there is no question of who’s in charge. There’s only love, which always puts the other first.
His duty is to fulfill her every desire...
Brandr the Far-Traveled has seen the world and a good many of the beautiful women in it. His bed skills are the stuff of steamy legend, his sword sings death, and he can call up fire from thin air. No one ever thought he could be enslaved through trickery and forced to wear the iron collar of a thrall—least of all him.
Until all she desires is him...
Katla the Black isn’t just called so for her dark, silky hair. His new mistress has a temper as fierce as a warrior’s and a heart as icy as the frozen North. But inch by delicious inch, Brandr means to make her melt...
Congratulations to both Mia and
Connie! And big thanks to Mia for being my guest today. I have to say that one of my favorite things about Lord of Fire and Ice was that Brandr was the one that was enslaved...that it wasn't your usual Viking conqueror plot, which has gotten kind of old for me. Brandr is more of a quiet subtle strength in his alphaness, and I liked that. Another of my favorite parts...is when Katla has to decide what to have him wear...and decides on a tiny tunic that is just long enough to cover the essentials, LOL.
I have special treat for you today, because honestly I don't think that this author can be beat when it comes to contemporary romance. I love love love, Jill Shalvis, and I especially love her small town Lucky Harbor. I've been a fan of this series since it first came out in 2010, and I was somewhat wary about where the series would go after the three sisters had the HEA. I don't know why I was worried, because I think the second set of three books, as a whole, are fantastic! With a hero that has a nickname of Ranger Hot Buns (aka Matt from At Last), you can't lose :)
~~~***~~~
HER LOVE HAS COME ALONG . . .
Amy Michaels loves her new life in Lucky Harbor. A waitress in the local diner, she's looking forward to her first weekend hike through the mountains. But when a wrong turn takes her off the trail, she finds herself up close and personal with forest ranger Matt Bowers. And even though she's tempted to kiss that sexy smile right off his face, she won't make the mistake of getting involved with the town heartthrob.
A former cop whose life went south, Matt doesn't let anyone get too close. But something about the feisty beauty caught his eye the moment he first saw her in the diner. After a hot night under a starry sky, Matt can't deny their attraction-or the fact that for the first time in a long time, he feels the stirrings of something more. Now it's up to Matt to help Amy see that, no matter what is in their past, together they can build a future in Lucky Harbor.
Grace never thought she'd be starting
her life over from scratch. Losing everything has landed her in Lucky
Harbor, working as a dog walker for overwhelmed ER doctor Josh Scott.
But the day his nanny fails to show up, Grace goes from caring for
Josh's lovable mutt to caring for his rambunctious son. Soon Grace is
playing house with the sexy single dad . . .
With so many people
depending on him, Josh has no time for anything outside of his clinic
and family-until Grace arrives in town. Now this brainy blonde is
turning his life inside out and giving a whole new meaning to the phrase
"good bedside manner." Josh and Grace don't know if what they have can
last. But in a town like Lucky Harbor, a lifetime of love starts with
just one day . . .
If there was a real place like Lucky Harbor, I would move there in a heartbeat! I mean, it seems that there is an endless supply of Heroes to go around like Ranger Hot buns, who's with me?
Seriously though, this entire series is really amazing. The first book, Simple Irresistible was a favorite read of 2010, and the three additions this year are hard to beat when it comes to comtemporary romance. At this point if you looked up a dictionary reference for contemporary romance, I think you should see Jill Shalvis' name there. The combination of the humor, the dialogue, the sexy scenes, the heart....makes me want more, more, more! And after reading about the heroines chocoholic meetings, as well as the recipes in the books (which I've tried and are yummilicious) I guess you could say I'm as much of a Harborholic as I am a chocoholic, LOL.
To celebrate the release of At Last and Forever and a Day, Jill's publisher Forever Romance, would like to giveway a both books to one lucky Musings follower! Here's how you can enter to win.

Last week author Shayla Black was my guest to talk about her story in the new anthology Hot in Handcuffs, and at the end I mentioned that Shiloh Walker was going to be my guest the following week...for the same book. That might seem odd, and frankly I think it is a Musings' first, but when I was given the opportunity to have one of my favorite authors as a guest...."sorry, but no thanks" wasn't even in my vocabulary, because it's more like a blogging dream come true!
Author Shiloh Walker is my special guest today, to share with us her story, "The Unwilling" in the Hot in Handcuffs anthology. Enjoy!
~~~***~~~
Welcome to Seductive Musings Shiloh! I think it is safe to say that you are one of my FAVORITE Romantic Suspense authors! I sing the praises of Broken to just about anyone who will listen (no joking), then there was the Ash Trilogy...amazing! For you, what makes a romance novel a great love story and what makes writing romantic suspense stories so compellingly seductive to your Muse?
I want a match. A hero and a heroine who fit each other…I want the book to be all about give and take—each of them have to have something to offer the other, and I don’t want either of them to be perfect. The more flawed they are, the harder they have to work for it, the more satisfying the happy ever after is.
Hmmm. About romantic suspense? I don’t know. Maybe my paranoia? You read the Ash trilogy, right? So you know how Law mentions that he’s the one who worries about the cop car following him even though he didn’t do anything? And he’s almost a card-carrying member of Conspiracies R Us? That’s me. I always see conspiracies and mysteries and problems…even when they don’t exist.
I was very excited when I first learned about Hot in Handcuffs because it had three of my favorite authors in one book...you, Shayla Black, and Sylvia Day. That’s pretty much a guaranteed great read! What do you love most about writing stories for anthologies? And do you find them harder or easier to write than your full length books.
Well, I haven’t really written that many anthologies. There are a handful out there, but I’ve got a lot of books, so it doesn’t seem like many to me. I’d love to do more, to be honest, especially if we can do it the way Sylvia and Shayla and I did this one…putting our heads together and having some idea about what we’re doing, then just running with it.
I do like the fact that having a mix of writers and writing styles can help introduce readers to authors they might not have read before, and I love being in an anthology with Sylvia and Shayla…they are two wonderful friends and it’s just awesome to work with them on anything.
Your newest story, "The Unwilling" is related to both The Missing and The Departed. Can you tell us how many stories are planned for this series? How they are all related, and for someone who has not had the pleasure of reading the previous two books, can you give us a brief summary about each of these stories? And do they need to be read in order?
The connecting thread is what the characters do…at least one, if not both, of the main characters are psychic and they work for, as I call it, a special task force of the FBI that technically doesn’t exist. It’s headed up by Taylor Jones, who was the hero of THE DEPARTED.
THE MISSING was the first book, and it’s a friends to lovers/reunited lovers sort of story…Taige was a psychic who fell in love with a boy she met in the town of Gulf Shores. Cullen knew about her abilities and accepted her for what she was…but a tragedy ripped them apart. Years later, he’s a widower, his daughter is kidnapped and he turns to the one person he knows he can trust…Taige.
THE DEPARTED is Taylor’s book, and plain and simple, I tell everybody this is the ASSHOLE’S book. The book that wasn’t going to be written. Taylor was introduced in Taige’s book and he was a jerk. I had no intention of writing him a story but people kept asking when he’d get a book. They kept asking, and asking. The first person to ask was one of my beta readers, P. and I said, “No…he’s a jerk.” I kept up that line for years, and then I was out to lunch with a writer, Rob Thurman and she’d read it, asked the same question. I gave her the same response… “No…he’s not getting a book. He’s an asshole. He’s a jerk. No. No. No.” She just laughed and said, “Yes! He’s an asshole. We need to know why…”
Why is a dangerous question to ask a writer. Okay. So I asked myself…Why is he a jerk? Is there a reason? Oh…Yes. If you want to know, you’ll have to read it. But it involves somebody he lost, a long time ago. And that loss was the driving force behind everything he does. And he’s the driving force behind the entire team.
The Unwilling, in the anthology Hot in Handcuffs, is a novella, whereas The Missing and The Departed are full length novels. What was it about Mica and Colby’s story that made it perfect for this anthology instead of a full length novel?
Well, they’d already been involved…the connection was already there. And although it seems like a cop-out answer…some stories are just meant to be shorter. Some are meant to be longer. Colby and Mica didn’t have a long story to tell.
Tell us more about your hero, Colby Mathis. What do you think will make readers, much like his heroine Mica, fall in love with him? And can you tell us a little bit about their story in The Unwilling?
Colby…well, he’s eaten up with guilt over a mistake he made. He’s planning on wasting the rest of his life being a beach bum and he’s doing pretty good, too. But then his gift keeps sneaking in on him.
He’s…intense. That’s what drew Mica to him, and in the end, that’s what scared her the most. She wasn’t ready, then. She is now.
In short, it’s a reunited lover story…murder style.
What's your favorite scene or moment from The Unwilling, and why? Can you describe it (or provide a short excerpt) for us without giving too much away?
EXCERPT
“You’re right. Once you get us on the right trail, we’ll probably be running night and day to get this thing wrapped up, and until that happens, you’re going to be pushed. Hard.” She pushed a shaking hand through her hair and then hefted her bag higher, rooting through it. Pulling out the file, she left it lying on the narrow work desk. “So you should rest. You can go through this whenever. I’ll . . . um, I guess I’ll call in a few hours. You can rest and then go through it and . . .”
She let her words trail off as she headed for the door. Get out. That was what she needed to do. Get out of here.
She almost made it to the door.
But Mica made the bad mistake of looking backward.
Looking . . . and falling into Colby’s gaze. He’d followed her and he stood only a wish away. Blue eyes, darkened by so many shadows, held hers. A hand came up, touching her cheek lightly. She felt that touch tremble through her entire body—it was like a shockwave. He went to pull away and she caught his wrist.
This is a bad, bad idea, she thought.
Very bad. And still, she found herself reaching for him with her other hand. When he just stood there, she went to him.
Lashes lowered over his eyes, shielding them.
“Mica.”
She pressed her lips to his chin, then brushed them along the line of his jaw. “Yeah?”
“This isn’t smart.”
“No. You’re right.” She pushed her hand into his hair, memory flooding her as it twined around her fingers. “I don’t much care.”
Tipping her head back, she stared into his eyes. “Do you?”
“I should.” He closed his eyes. “I probably will . . . later.”
As his mouth came crushing down on hers, she thought, Let’s hear it for later . . .
What are a few sexy & suspenseful facts about this book that readers would love to know?
I was writing it while I was going through Texas on vacation…I don’t know that you can call this sexy, but there ya go.
Originally, it was going to be set in Tennessee. And somebody was going to be kidnapped. But I shelved that idea. It might be a different story later.
In my mind, Mica looks a lot like Zooey Deschanel and Colby looks a lot like Matt Damon. You can see what the others look like on my board for the FBI Psychics over on Pinterest.
Can you tell us about some of your upcoming releases, or new projects that we can look forward to?
The next FBI book will be THE REUNITED, out early next year. There’s also STOLEN, which is a standalone romantic suspense, due out in October. FRAGILE is being released in mass market paperback. I’m also releasing an urban fantasy title, BLADE SONG, under my new alter ego, J.C Daniels…it will probably appeal to those who liked my paranormal romances. It’s releasing in ebook in August.
Three stories from three of the
