Thursday's Thoughts: I am in a complete PANIC!

Thursday, March 14

So I was online last night after a long day and clicked on my Google Reader to check out what has been happening online in all of the blogs that I follow, or subscribe to only to have a pop up message from Google that it's Reader is being retired as of July 1, 2013!

NOooooooo!  I use my reader daily.  Several times a day in fact.  I read the blogs I like with it, I have design stuff I use it for, I find out about the Kindle freebies using this...It's my lifeline to everything I love to visit, or articles I want to save for later.  It's the only way I can try to stay up to date with all of my favorites, not to mention remember all of them. I am seriously in a panic!

Do you use a web based RSS feed reader?  If so, what do you use or recommend? Or if you don't use a feed reader what do you do to keep up with the blogs & websites you follow?   Help!  And why does Google have to keep retiring everything that they've gotten us dependent on?   I love Google, but seriously they are starting to really tick me off!

p.s. this wasn't what I had originally planned on discussing this Thursday, but this emergency took priority :)

My hubs just told me about this. I have about 100 blogs in my reader so I'm freaked also. He sent me a link to I don't know anything about it but I will be checking it out as a possible replacement.

Why they need to discontinue! ?! I hope there is sn uproar and they keep it. I'd just took more time organizing it etc and now this. There has got to be something else to get the res on! Otherwise they useless! So if you find out anything let us know? I too will look. I was out all day for appts so didn't get a chance to check google reader so now I dread going over and seeing the pop up.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm betting we'll hear more from others on this today as they find out!

Sorry on typos. I usually check the posts first, especially with auto correct. Happens when mad lol.

Sn = an
Res = RSS

It's been some week! With many of the blogs and even sites that originated to promote freebies, no longer are because of the change with Amazon made for the affiliates. I have to erase my cookies before checking out what they promoting of bargains because if I got a freebie that day within 24 hours it will show up on their account as a strike against them. So many losing with this. The affiliates, Amazon and readers. I would read the first book in series free then purchase more. Now they losing sales from me and others.

Sorry wrong topic here but just to show "why fix it if it's not broken "

I'm so bummed to be losing google reader. I've heard about feedly but will need to do some research into my options :(

I did some research too. Feedly looks like a possibility and also something called The Old Reader, which is designed to be like the Old Google Reader before the recent update. The other one I'm going to check into is Feedbooster.

One that gets a lot of good feedback is Newsblur but you can only have up to like 64 feeds for free, at which point you have to pay to have more. I believe it was only $1/mo for unlimited, but if there is a free option out there, I'd rather do that first.

Just so bummed that I can't do it all while signed into my Google account. One person I read a comment from yesterday said that even if it isn't a money maker for them they should keep it just for the user experience and keeping you all with their products and I have to say that I agree with that completely. From what I have read they haven't had anyone actually working on Reader for a while so I don't know why they can't just leave it :( But once they make a decision like this it's done.

Some have said that since they are getting rid of the Reader, that it won't be long before they close down Feedburner as well which is what a lot of sites, including Seductive Musings uses to create their RSS feeds that the Readers use to gather the site content. Just one more future headache to have to worry it.

My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both and gift cards on this rewards site)
