Summary from the publisher:

Step into New York Times bestseller Nalini Singh’s explosive and shockingly passionate Psy-Changeling world…

A dangerous, volatile rebel, hands stained bloodred.
A woman whose very existence has been erased.
A love story so dark, it may shatter the world itself.
A deadly price that must be paid.
The day of reckoning is here.

From “the alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) comes the most highly anticipated novel of her career—one that blurs the line between madness and genius, between subjugation and liberation, between the living and the dead.

My Musings:

The suspense and mystery leading up to the release of HEART OF OBSIDIAN was like nothing I’ve ever seen.  We didn’t know the identity of the hero or the heroine until release day.   If I had done the review sooner, I would have kept the mystery going.  I’m assuming everyone knows the identity of the hero by now, so it’s no longer a spoiler.  Other than that, this review will be spoiler free.

Kaleb Krycheck has been the most intriguing character of the entire series for me.  As a member of the Psy council, he has been in the periphery for many of the past books.  He was always such a mystery though.  I knew he was extremely powerful, very secretive, and driven to the point of obsession.  The big question for me was whether he was a good guy or a bad guy.  As it turns out, that’s the question everyone is asking.

The strength of the Psy race is their minds, which are all connected through the Netmind.  Two things are essential to the existence of their race, the Netmind and Silence.  They’re both crumbling, and the consequences are devastating.  There is a disease slowly spreading through the Netmind, and entire areas are unable to support life.  In the physical realm, the race is beginning to question their belief in Silence.  A group called Pure Psy, a strongly pro-Silence organization,  is using terrorist strikes to make themselves heard.  As the Psy race collapses from within, they are also being being pressured by the other races to stop Pure Psy.  Now that the Psy council has disbanded, there is only one person strong enough to clean up the mess, and that’s Kaleb Krycheck.

HEART OF OBSIDIAN brings to light the source of Kaleb’s obsession, Sahara Nightstar.  We already know that Kaleb was trained by the serial killer, and former council member, Enrique Santano.  What we didn’t know was that Kaleb was removed from his family and put into Enrique’s care at the age of 3.  Enrique systematically broke Kaleb down in order to shape him into the perfect Psy.  Enrique idealized in his deranged mind.  The only bright light in Kaleb’s dark upbringing was a young girl named Sahara.  She befriended him, and was the only person to ever genuinely care for Kaleb.  She has been missing for the past 7 years, and Kaleb has been obsessively searching for her.  If Kaleb can’t have her, then Kaleb has no reason to live.  The fate of the world lies in her hands.

HEART OF OBSIDIAN is a masterpiece.  It finally brought to light the sinister beauty which has continually drawn me into this series.  It has the action, suspense, and mystery I expect from Nalini Singh combined with one of the purest loves I have ever read.  Without a doubt, this is a must read book for fans of the series.

My FREE Kindle Quest

I've wanted a Kindle for what seems like forever, but haven't been able to afford it (and that's saying something since I can justify the cost of just about ANYTHING that I really want). I've tried winning one in one of the many giveaways that have taken place over the couple of years, but with no luck :( So I've decided to take matters in hand so to speak :) I've now decided that I am going to accumulate enough Swagbucks from my Swabucks searches to buy one...so in essence my new Kindle will be FREE...funded entirely by my internet searches done on Swagbucks. I'll keep you informed of the Great Kindle Quest below (in case you're interested....if not feel free to just skip over this part, but really who wouldn't be interested in a FREE Kindle?)
Goal: $119
Current Swagbucks Amazon Gift Card balance: $90.00
If you'd like to learn how you can earn Swagbucks and earn your own Amazon Gift Cards to buy books, a Kindle or other merchandise sold at Amazon contact me and I would be more than happy to tell you how I plan to go about it. (just so you know you can earn both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca gift cards on this rewards site)
