Guest Author & Giveaway: Máire Claremont featuring Lady in Red

Friday, October 18

I have some mad love for Máire Claremont book covers. We're talking major LOVE people :) You all know how much I love them, and generally they play a large part in deciding if I try a "new to me author" or not.  But what really made me decide that this was an author that I NEEDED to try in 2013, other than the cover, was this quote, "Think the Brontës, du Maurier and Holt. For those who relish the dark side, Claremont is their new queen.” —RT Book Reviews, TOP PICK! 4 1/2 stars

I am a huge, HUGE Brontës fan. HUGE.  I think I've read all of their books, or at least all of the ones I could get my greedy little booklover hands on.  And while Emily's Wuthering Heights could be considered more popular, Charlotte is my favorite (I think I've mentioned a time or two that Jane Eyre is like one of my absolute favorite books).  So when I found out that Máire also hearted Mr. Rochester (Jane Eyre) and Mr. Darcy (you know that Mr. Darcy) I felt that we were romance book kindred spirits, LOL.  Sadly, I haven't found the time to read her first book yet, but I'm putting her new book Lady In Red at the tops of my wish list.

Máire Claremont is my guest today to share with us Lady in Red and her heroine's top 10 ways to seek revenge against her father.   Intriguing and fun!  Enjoy.

 ~~~***~~~
I absolutely loved my dad. He was so awesome. Really, he read to me and played with me and always made me feel like I could do anything. So, I have no idea why I write such baaaaaaad dads and Lady Mary Darrel in my new book, Lady in Red, has the worst. I know my dad would have been helping her plot to take that duke down. After all, the man put his own daughter in a horrific asylum. So, here's my dad's imaginary revenge plan of action.
Top Ten Ways to seek revenge against your father:
  1. Defy him at every turn
  2. Escape from the hideous asylum he has exiled you to
  3. Seek the help of a famous courtesan
  4. Make friends with a very powerful, very handsome duke.
  5. Learn how to shoot a pistol perfectly at fifty paces
  6. Carry a knife where ever you go
  7. No matter how hard, give up the laudanum he forced you to take
  8. Make sure you look almost exactly like your mother, the wife he may have murdered
  9. Show up unannounced at one of his parties. And finally. . .
  10. Claim your Revenge
The Victorian era was full of majestic beauty and scandalous secrets—a time when corsets were the least of a woman’s restrictions, and men could kill or be killed in the name of honor…
Lady Mary Darrel should be the envy of London. Instead, all society believes her dead. For Mary holds a secret so dangerous, her father chose to keep her locked away…and have a grave made for her near her mother’s. Driven to the edge of desperation, Mary manages to escape the asylum, only to find that her fate yet again rests in the hands of a man…
Edward Barrons, Duke of Fairleigh, longs for some way to escape the torment of his father’s crimes. In Mary’s warrior spirit and haunted gaze—which so mirrors his own—he finally sees his path to redemption. He will stop at nothing to keep her safe, even as she seeks revenge. But will the passion they discover in each other be enough to save them from their demons?
2011 Golden Heart winner Máire Claremont first fell in love with Mr. Rochester, not Mr. Darcy. Drawn to his dark snark, she longed to find a tortured hero of her own… until she realized the ramifications of Mr. Rochester locking his first wife up in his attic. Discovering the errors of her ways, Máire now looks for a real-life Darcy and creates deliciously dark heroes on the page. Oh, and she wants everyone to know her name is pronounced Moira. Her parents just had to give her an Irish Gaelic name.  If you'd like to learn more about Máire and the books she writes you can find her at her website, blog, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
To celebrate the release of the second book in her Mad Passions series, Lady in Red, Máire Claremont is giving away a $10 Amazon gift card to one (1) lucky Musings follower.  Open to US & International readers.  Enter to win in the Rafflecopter form below.
I think the only fitting revenge is to have him imprisooned in the asylum.
Wow!! Thanks for such a great introduction, and I must say, it does sound like we may be book soul mates. Jane Eyre is one of my VERY favorite books. Seriously. I've read it again and again and have seen just about eery film/tv version.
Thanks so much for having me and to everyone who stops by.
"Lady in Red" looks and sounds...FABULOSO!
"Jane Eyre" remains one of my favorite books of all time. I have seen numerous screen retellings, but for me the definitive film version is the one starring George C. Scott and Susannah York. It made a huge impression on me as a young viewer, and I am still thrilled each time I see it again. There is something about the way George C. Scott says her name "Jane". He loads those four letters with different meaning each time he says the name, but each meaning contains a world of feelings.
Utmost Revenge: Ruin the man in the eyes of society. Leave him exposed, impoverished, and impeached in the minds of those whose peerage he holds in the most high regard.
She needs to work on speaking like her mother, too. She may have had a different style of speech or a different accent that she needs to master.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Date someone he doesn't like
Great post! And, I have to agree with you, those covers are gorgeous!
As far as revenge on her father, I think that she should dress like her mother and pretend to haunt him in his sleep. Among the other things that were noted. :)
I will be adding this one to my TBR.
Thank you for sharing.
I would seek revenge on my bad dad by living well and being happy despite his abuse.
I'd be sending him the bills for my extravagant lifestyle.
Hmm, I would most likely disappear from his life forever. Forget I had a father. All I would need is a sexy hero like Edward :)
